  2. An average drum during a tournament can be a let down. Big pike and musky can be a time waster, but they're still fun. If my bag stinks, I'll stick the pike in the weigh bag as a little surprise for the weigh master, lol.

  3. I've now caught 2 pickerel bigger than the NH state record. Who cares? I can't stand those fish. I gotta say, though, one that size makes you think for a second that you could have a 10lb bass on the line. Then... limpy. Stupid snot rockets.

  5. You should see S FL. Its full of people from up North, especially the Snow Birds. (Oh God, they will be here soon). Oh, and don't get me started on the Canadians! Jeebus! Us regular Southern Boys are a rare breed down here. Im originally a Kentucky boy, I have seen drastic changes down here in the past 20 years. I loved going back up there during the Summer to stay with my Grandparents. Screw the Summers down here, dirtbikes and trail riding, horses, big Blue Cats, frog gigging, hunting, and just being able to do anything I want and not get arrested for it. I miss it soo much. At least the Bass fishing is better down here. All the problem people don't make it on the water, so at least I can escape them one way, lol.

  6. Does anybody else see that we are the only Comp that actually talks to each other? I keep looking at them Yanks up North, and they all seem to be pretty Comp oriented. Thank God we got our stupid convo's to keep us occupied, and great videos to boot! LOL

  7. Just for a little positive feedback (admittedly rare from me), it seems you put some effort into writing this up. You seem excited when talking about your club too. Put that energy into becoming the best you can be and also helping your club be the best it can be. Like David said, you've got plenty o' time.

  8. This 67 year-old man just returned this evening from attending his first Eagles concert. That band is nothing less than fantastic! They are just as good as they were in the 70's, if not better. Joe Walsh is still a magician on his guitar. I brought my 40 year-old daughter with me and she enjoyed it as much as I did. Funny thing though, I guess the Eagles appeal to a different demographic than other bands. The youngest person I saw appeared to be about 30. Most were 40 plus, and I saw only white people. Another odd thing I witnessed was that everyone was very gracious to each other. During the mid-performance break I high-tailed it to the restroom and found myself in a line with about 200 people ahead of me. Not one person attempted to cut into that line. Everything was very cordial all evening long. Another sign of the changing times I witnessed was this. Remember back in the old days when a nostalgic song was played and everyone struck their lighters to wave? Now, the lighters are gone. Everyone lights the arena up by turning on their cell phone displays. Go figure. I used my lighter anyway. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would highly recommend attendance by anyone who is old enough to appreciate the music of the Eagles.

  13. i have a yard stick cut down to 30 inch , then have it tacked to a piece of wood 30 inch by 4 inch wide , i carry on the kayak and another one (i just made)i started to carry in my truck. I wont put them on the grass anymore as i was told this is not good for the fish. which makes perfect sense. I have also one 8 inch wide tacked onto the support beam in my canoe. I also wet them first. There are pics of fish with them on it

  14. Decided (later than I wanted) to hit Conesus today, since my home lake (Silver) sucked for me last weekend. I wasn't expecting much with high skies/post frontal conditions. Morning bite was unspectacular, but actually better than I thought, I put about 8 small keepers up to 2lbs , and a pair clone of 3.5 lbers in the boat by lunch time. Took a lunch break back at the truck, and headed back out. Ran some new water that I didn't fish in the morning, and the better fish seemed to have the feed bag on in the afternoon. I caught 18 fish over three lbs between 3-6pm, with my best five being a 3-12, a 4-3, a 4-4, a 5-3...............AND a new personal Conesus best, heck best anywhere, 7-1 SLOB!!! That beats the pair of 6-10's tied for first since last Aug. That's three years in row I have tied or beat my PB, but I think this one might stand for a while.

  23. Im not trying to be rude here, but how is it that you are asking for free jigs and soft plastics in the Tackle section but talk about buying a new reel here? If i was so tight on money I was asking for free jigs and plastics, you can bet I wouldn't be buying any new reels. Brian

  28. We pulled out of all retail, we have our website and our own retail shop on site that we can't keep a stock for, I decided to pull the plug so I can at least try and get a stock or keep up with orders for the website. My business goals don't include knocking off Strike King or Booyah on quantity, its the quality part that I worry most about. I am slowly catching up and order times are down to 1-2 weeks, if you need something in a rush I might be able to help, it never hurts to send an email out to ask.

  30. You could be fishing where it's a muck bottom. I fish a lake like this. Anything over about 1/4 oz. sinks into the mud.

  31. Texas rig fishing, the only time I cannot feel anything is when the weigh is not on the bottom so tend I agree with what Seibert said the weight is too light or you are reeling too hard/fast(swimming it not keeping contact) or both. Even with at 1/16 and a plastic worm you can feel it dig into the muck or an intital tick and some resistance if it hits weeds or a limb. I fish a lot of soft bottoms where it goes from muck/slime to weeds lines, you know when it changes. My first instinct after reading the title was to reply with "that's what she said".

  32. What are you trying to feel? The bottom? If so, your weight might be to light for the conditions you are fishing.

  33. It has been a long time since I have visited this site and I am very pleased to see that there are a ton of great people that still frequent it. I ran a charity organization for a few years that gave kids the opportunity to fish for the first time and I have to say that seeing the smiles on their faces is worth everything to me. I have run into hard times lately due to losing a great job but I have just ventured into the challenging world of car sales. I pledge a minimum of $100 from my first commission check, but my goal is going to be $500. I will be working very hard to make this happen. It makes my heart feel good to take on this goal in my life. I support what you are doing 100%. John B

  34. I use a Rapala digital scale. They are around 20 dollars and take one 9 volt battery. Seems to work the best for me. I have tried other scales with mixed results. I do not have confidence in spring scales. They need to be calibrated often. The Berkeley digital scales suck. I have had the Rapala digital for a few years now. As far as weight of that fish... It is hard to say. 25 inches is a big bass. Doesn't look exceptionally fat though. I think NEjitterbugger said it right though. Fish come in all shapes. Its all about the girth.

  35. There are a lot if dedicated trophy bass anglers around the country. California, Florida, Texas are 3 states that have or had giant bass populations, bass over 15 lbs. the bottom line is you must have giant bass populations is good numbers to be able to catch numbers of these very rare bass. You can spend a life time trying to catch a DD bass and not achieve that goal if the lakes you fish never produce bass over 10 lbs. Fish Chris is another member of this site who consistantly caught giant bass, Big O is catching lots of DD's and just a matter of time until that elusive 15+ strikes. Big O is spending lots of time targeting big bass and that is the key; gotta fish for them where they live. I started fishing for the world record bass back in the 50's when I read the story about George Perry's 22.25 world record from Montgomery lake, GA in 1932. The summer I graduated from high school, packed up my car and drove from California to Georgia's Montgomery lake to fish for WRB, the lake wasn't there anymore, dried up! So I fished Florida's lakes and rivers for a few weeks and learned something; summer wasn't a good time to fish for big bass and Florida had lots of bugs, snakes and alligators. At the same time period Orville Ball was stocking Miramar and Upper Otay lakes in San Deigo with FLMB! Returned home, went back to school and keep fishing for that world record bass, came close and believe I had potential fish hooked, just didn't put one in the boat....still trying for a 20+! Tom

  40. LM = 6 lbs (5-6 of them... cannot get over the hump!). I had a 12+ within about 5 feet of the boat until she did an unanticipated head shake when I took my eye off of her waiting for the net. That still hurts. Literally every time I go by that spot, painful. Took a buddy out for his birthday last spring (gets to fish 3-4x/year) and he caught a 10 lb 4 oz out of the back of my boat on a 4" grub I rigged up for him. Go figure!

  41. Didn't think I would be posting in this thread again so soon. Caught today on Conesus lake, 7lbs 1oz. on a jig. Rod was a 7'6" H Abu Vendetta, reel was a gen1 Abu Revo STX (thanks for the good luck Shane!!), 50lb power pro braid, 20lb Seaguar red label fluoro leader.

  43. Utah seems like a world away from Michigan, but the "migration" has already happened here. In natural lakes here fish spend the majority of the summer in mid to deep water, saaaayyyy 12 feet and up. They love vegitation and can be difficult to locate and catch on hot days. The weather has since cooled off and it's truely like a light switch. When there deep summer vacation weeds start to die off, huge schools of bluegill will start to show up in shallow water where the water is still warm enough to support weed growth. Guess what, Mr. 4 pounder is not far behind. Like Catt said, find the bait find the fish. With the lack of vegitation, they almost always choose the next best option in terms of cover. The only thing left is a few docks and vertical sea walls. Since there is so little to choose from isolated solid structure can be loaded. Here, I find the bait shallow in the fall and that's where the bass are too. I had an outstanding week last week. Wish I could go more often, days are short and there isn't very many days left.

  45. Hard jerkabaits narrow in design? You haven't done your homework, or put enough time in them. Depth, rattles, no rattles, knockers, Suspending, sinking, floating, subtle roll, erratic walk the dog,...the list goes on. Go to any popular lure site and do a search on jerkbaits. I think you'll be surprised.

  46. The best jig? The one you have the most confidence in! There's not one jig that is so far above the rest. The company I picked to use drew me to them because they use great hooks, they don't paint their line tie so it doesn't fray the line, and I have great confidence in the colors they make. I used to tie my own, but for lakes I found myself wanting more options. I started using California Reservoir Lures. Be careful though, they're addicting cause there's so many good looking colors.

  47. Normally that movement (fall to winter) won't occur until the lake turns over and the water temp. stabilizes from top to bottom. If the cooling down happens at a slow rate, the turnover won't be noticeable visually and the only way to determine a stable water temp is to measure it from top to bottom. There is no specific temperature where this occurs in all lakes as a shallow body of water can turn over at water temps in the upper 50's in northern lakes and as high as mid 60's in some deep/southern resevuoirs. If you don't have the ability to measure water temp, the presence or absence of baitfish in the shallower sections of the lake is a good indicator.
