  4. No, a several hundred dollar ticket is not worth 10 dollars for a one day license.

  5. The typical trailerable boat maxs out at 100 " beam because of trailer restrictions over the road. Once you reach max width near the 96-100" range it is all about length. But the typical bass boat or modified deep V boat starts at 16' up to 22'! That is about the max. So to answer Sam's question length is more important once you reach max width. It is a combination of both width and length up to max beam and then it is all about length beyond that. Obviously the most safe boat is the modified deep V with the greater dead rise for water with big waves. Ocean going boats have a minimum of 19 - 22 degrees dead rise based on a deep V design. The typical bass boat is based upon a pad system for maximum speed with little consideration for dead rise or free board depth. The typical freshwater boat has a dead rise of 15 degrees or less. The typical bass boat is less than that. My Great Lakes bass boat has a 100" beam and is 20' 2" in length. It has a 19 degree dead rise and can hit 60 mph with a merc pro XS 250. This is a great bass boat for the Great Lakes but not a good choice for shallow lakes in the south because of the high freeboard and less than shallow draft. So it all boils down to match your boat with the predominate waters that you will fish.

  9. Oh here is the 5-15/6-0 on the scale. Scale don't lie so I guess I will have to go with 5-15. Seriously it was bouncing between 5-15 and 6-0

  10. I was able to get out and fish a couple hours today after working on my truck all day Got on the water at 6pm and stayed til 830. I caught a couple nice fish after dark. Here are my first three fish: Fish # 1 17.5 inches 3lbs 3oz Fish # 2 22 inches 6lbs 0oz Here is a pic of the fish on the scale. It was very difficult for me to get a pic of the fish and the scale reading the weight alone. It says 5-15 in the pic but I swear it was bouncing to 6-0. Fish # 3 23 inches 7lbs 0oz I tried to get a pic of this one n the scale to but it did not come out.

  15. There is no reason to knowingly break the law, these actions are why fewer and fewer places allow fishing. Follow the rules or don't do the activity. If you don't agree with a specific law try to get it changed.

  20. Alright now, this is gonna be one of my longer posts, esp. the pictures because it deserves what it is.....Me and Uglystick Jim put in a 12 hour day today......It never gets old.....I had a good feeling about today before we rolled out, something cool was gonna happen, didn't know exactly what it was gonna be, but just felt something.....So we started out at 6:30am and I told Jim, let's hit my usual 1st spot........Couple casts in....BAM!!...I nail a nice Smallie and it comes unglued....I don't understand is with me lately?.....smh........continuing forward I show Jim a secret bait and 1st cast....BAM!!....1st chunk of the day..... .....we drift a little down and Jim yells HE'S ON!! I told him don't horse him in, play the fish. and asks me to net him...After a nice fight,Finally put Jim on to his best smallie of the year.....this was all I wanted to do is see him catch something nice all day.....and he started out great!!.... We both continue the day with a few more fish , bass, snot rockets and perch......bite was defiantely on plastics all day long..... We hit this one weed edge and I have a good feeling when my line gets a slight bump, I set the hook, and this bruiser comes flying out of the water...... The day was shaping up to be pretty decent for the both of us.........we both caught fish......time for some lunch.....Mmmmmmmmmmm.......Grilled Chicken Cutlets with Lettuce,Tomato, and Red Onions on Fresh Semolina Bread with Salt Pepper, and Oregano, red wine vinegar and olive oil, and a lemon squeezed over the cutlets after I grilled them.....The Holy MotherClucker sandwich is what I call it.... Jim hooks into another nice one later in the day......Ugly stick Jim gets it done!!! So we end up going around this one point ad all day I've been saying to Jim about how I've seen bears so many times this year, and this is time for them to come out more often, and all this bear talk, we're fishing and I look to my left and there he is!.........EL OSO GRANDE!!!!!!....I love these animals so much. They are so incredible to see, with their fluffy, shiny black fur and beautiful face....To see them with your own eyes and think people kill these just for fun breaks my heart......They are one of God's most beatutiful creation's in this world..He just sat there on his butt , not one bit afraid of us and let us get very close to him....like probably @ 50 feet or so(we were in the boat off shore and had the gas motor ready in case of an emergency)...We just sat there quietly and watched him as he just looked at us probably thinking, "I wish these guys would just go back to fishing and leave me alone, this isn't the zoo!!!".......AFter about 15 minutes or so he wandered off slowly and we returned to fishing again, I know for me and Jim, was the icing on the cake to a beautiful day on the water...Here's a few pics we snapped...I did video also but not going to load it up here.....

  25. Thanks, guys. I'm finally feeling better than I did. Dang, just start feelin' closer to normal and another session coming the end of next week. I must do as Glenn said and keep my focus on the horizon. I'm gonna beat this!

  26. I talked to someone who owns a camp on Swains, he said the association is lowering the lake later this year then normal. Now just have to wait for all the weeds to get away from the ramp. On the good news fish are biting and rage craw black with blue was preferred bait today over 2 dozen total for the day. I'm in Portsmouth also but my boat is full size so I have to have a ramp accessible lake. Good luck all.

  27. We go on a vacation on the water out of state somewhere every year. The licenses (3) are in the boat before we leave. If you are going to use a resource you should help fund it.

  33. Would be nice to have a legally All-State fishing license, if they existed. Some states have ridiculous charges for temp licenses, by the time you're done finding good places to fish it's too late and a waste of money.

  35. I travel a ton for work and bring my travel stuff with me when I have the potential to fish. I WISH the licenses were just $10 for a day. In some states the non resident rates are double or triple that. It does get expensive but I do it. Caught some bass in Dallas these past few days!

  40. Man, you hit the nail on the head. While fishing I've seen countless beavers and bald eagles, a huge otter out of the water rolling around on the grass like a playful dog, turtles the size of trash can lids...freaking majestic stuff. This is only my second season bass fishing and it's brought me up close and personal with nature. Heck, the other day driving to the lake, there was a deer in the opposite lane and it actually ran towards me, jumped, ran across the hood of my car, and kept on going. Bass smashing topwater lures, huge chain pickerel pulling drag like nobody's business...I wouldn't have experienced any of this if I hadn't taken up fishing. As for other women giving me flak about fishing, I don't have to worry about that. I work six days a week and all I really only have time for is my work and fishing and fortunately for me, my wife loves to fish. I moved last year and all my friends are about 2 hours away. I don't make new friends very easily so if I'm not working, I'm fishing with my wife. She's my world and I'm hers. If she's working I'll go by myself and she'll tease me about finding some floozy to fish with or if I'm working I'll tell her she'll just have to find some other guy to take her but we both know we're kidding.

  42. My only expriences with P-line florclear are using 20# offshore on a conventional reel using an ordinary clinch knot, have caught fish upwards of 50# amberjacks with no breaking issue. I also use that same 20# as leader material for some inshore fishing, snook, bonefish, bluefish and jacks plus bass fishing in Florida canals, again an ordinary clinch knot with no issues. I have had very few negative issues with mono or copoly lines of any brand, I don't recommend of favor any one in particular. When I have a breakage problem it usually isn't the line at fault, it's me. A fish that is allowed to take out drag generally will not break the line, it's when the drag is too tight. Kid yourself not, if you are using line labeled at 6# and it breaks at 12, you are really using 12# test line, should be fine for most spinning reels when bass fishing IMO.
