  1. My tackle room looks like it was turned upside down then set upright again. One of my problems is I have too many new fishing rods I'll probably never use. I been wanting to help kids in someway. Then Mike Siebert/Glenn here mentioned "tackle the storm". I contacted them and they put a fishing rod in every child's hands who lost everything here to a disaster. I can't think of a better way to give back to this sport than helping a the upcoming future fishermen and fisherwomen of America. I ask you if you have a new rod or a rod that's in New condition that you have sitting in your way that you may not need why not donate it to "Tackle the Storm" this is a great foundation to support were helping our own people all around our country in time of need. Giving someone a fishing rod setup is a gift that never stops giving. I'm sure that everyone has something to donate if you can. I talked with the tackle the storm people and they said they be happy to get what ever you have to support the cause. I'm going to support this foundation too. They can use are help. God bless, bigbill I hope I don't get into trouble for posting this. I just want to help our fellow Americans in time of need. I want to make a difference in our country. And it starts with our youth. Plus it also supports our sport too our youth is our future adult fisherman and fisherwomen too. We could be helping out a future bassmaster winner too.

  11. At my bass club meeting last night I was sitting there, hearing the guys lie to each other and startred to make a mental note of the problems the guys have had with their boats and motors. Here is a list of the problems: Engine Block blew - Cost of repairs with used parts $3,000 (I expect it to blow for the fourth time in two years on the Pamunkey this weekend as he keeps going back to his friend and not a certified Mercury dealer) Lower Unit failed due to fishing line tearing up seal and letting the oil flow out and fill up with water seizing engine while it was open throttle - Estimated cost $10,000 Electrical Problem - Cost $2,600 Motor Failed while fishing - Cost nothing. Three repair shops told him how to fix the problem and we will find out if they were right this Saturday. Motor fell off boat on the Potomac - Loss of Mercury priced at $18,000 plus $700 prop. Used brass bolts as they were too cheap to go to Lowe's to purchase the correct bolts when they worked on the jack plate. Motor making funny sounds - Friend tried to fix it himself but has not eliminated the funny sounds. Will find out if it blows up this weekend on the Pamunkey. Motor blew up two years ago on the Rappahannock and he does all of the work himself. New 2012 Four-Stroke constantly needing adjustments on the water and before blast off - And we think Yamaha is a great motor Motor Will Not Start - No estimate given. Boat and Motor in shop but expected to get it back today or tomorrow. Fuel Injectors went bad - Cost $850 to repair on a new Evinrude. What I am saying is for everyone who is looking to purchase a boat to make sure the motor is in good condition by taking it to a certified dealer not associated with the boat's current owner to have the motor tested. A company selling used bass boats will check out the boa and motor for you and although it may cost a few dollars more, you may be doing yourself a favor by purchasing your boat through a local dealer. The repair shop and dealer can tap into the motor's computer and get a printout of its usage. Be sure to ask for this printout. Lots of guys out there repair their motors themselves with limited knowledge. That is why I have a tow rope on my boat just in case I need to tow them somewhere. Also a lot of guys do not winterize their motors and just put them up for the winter months without draining and replacing the fluids or spraying the oil in the motor. Motors will have problems but you don't want to buy them from someone else. You want them to develop on your watch!

  12. Because of a time restraint I was unable to do my normal routine, but how does one not hit the beach at first light. Water was flat and outgoing, worst conditions possible so I'm looking for a bit of nervous water and I find some. Not much going on until I see a fin, I cast my DOA jerk shad and this jack was all over it. Fairly lengthy battle as I was using a med 7' spinning and soron 20 reel, which I planned on replacing later today at BPS, I'm rethinking that one, lol. Off in the distance I see mackerel beaking water, I switch lures to cast that far and pull in 3 spanish.

  15. Well my boy try's to emulate me in every way possible and today he made me make some modifications to his bow and arrow. First was a capture fall away rest like my apache his is a zip tie lift away lol. Put a zip tie to his pin and cut it about 1.5" long and it swings down and holds his arrow from falling off the rest and when he shoots it swings to the up position. Next he wanted a loop for a release that he doesn't have so he took mine. I had some 550(para) cord in my truck so I took some guts out of the cord and tied a loop for him. He thinks a big bad buck hunter now with his set up like his daddy's. bow season starts here in NY on Tuesday I got a ground blind I'm gonna take him with me some days and put the "finishing" shot on what ever I happen to shoot. Rest Loop Our bows The mini me in action He's still got a ways to go but the fact hes so interested in the out doors and archery/shooting thrills me no sheltered gamer kids in my house.

  18. BassResource.com has always supported this organization and our members are significant contributors. I believe we raised over $900 for the group at this year's banquet during the RoadTrip. The Moderators have designed custom jigs for Siebert Outdoors. Mike donates 75 cents for every Storm Series jig sold.

  19. I don't think the higher end lews spinning reels have been out long enough to give any sort of opinion on them. Shimano spinning reels are kind of the "it" when it comes to spinning reels. fantastic reels.

  22. Lee, you are catching some hogs my friend!!!!!!! Good for you!!!! I have to admit, my 4# goal has not worked out for me very well. Let me go ahead and say now, I will now donate on the "00mod" plan......50cents for every fish I catch, PLUS a combo($7.50) for any over 4#. this helps me and the kids. Me, because now I will HAVE to keep a fishing log, plus get to donate on the regular. Helps the kids in that, lets face it they need the help and a smile! I never like to lower a goal, but for the smile of a child, I am willing.

  23. Jerkbaits that are more expensive also probably has a lot more R&D behind it. I don't know what makes it happen, but have you seen the quiver of a pointer at the end of a rip? Or perhaps how some jerkbaits suspend head down tail up? We're honestly at a time where there's so many good baits out there that you have to pick and choose ones you really like, gain a ton of confidence in them and just go out fishing.

  28. Don't worry about what is on the blank saying use this or that for a specific purpose. I have the spinnerbait mojo rod and don't like it for spinnerbaits at all but i do like it for frogs and jigs. I prefer my 6'6" MHF jig/worm rod for spinnerbaits. Figure out the power and action you want and go with that. Drop shot is generlaly going to be a 7' M or ML F rod. Crankbait rods you are looking for a moderate action. I am not a lipless crank fisherman but many posts on here indicate people like the Fast action rods for this technique when ripping out of the grass. I will also echo the Avid or for the same blank and a few bucks cheaper you can go with the rage series.

  29. Early to late fall fishing can be fantastic, but if you're like me, you only have so much time on the water. The catching during this period is easier, but the finding can be more difficult, especially when fishing alone. Aside from my electronics, the one tool I use in my search is some sort of double presentation that can cover different parts of the water column. Two of my favorites are a top water with a small jig tied to the rear hook hanger on a drop line and a football jig with a shallow running crank attached via swivel and some sort of keeper (like adding a trailer hook on a spinnerbait) with a two to three ft. length of heavy mono. If the fish are in the upper water column, but reluctant to strike a topwater, the jig will pick them up. If they're in the lower part, the crank will pick up fish holding off the bottom. Give one of these double rigs a try when looking for fish this season and you can do a little more catching and a little less searching.

  34. My buddy took me to a small farm pond his friend owns. He has caught the same 10 pounder out of it numerous times. The landowner says "kill that big #$%&@ who keeps eating my crappie". He just releases her back and doesn't tell him

  35. The Missouri Department of Conservation will come out and shock the lake to let you know what's in it. They will also guide you on how to make it a better fishing late too. Here's a good manual they have produced about how to take care of a small private pond http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/mopondhandbook_2011.pdf

  36. I'm also a bank fisherman and a noob (started in July). On the four bodies of water that I fish regularly, I would say the most important factor has been WHERE I cast to. There have been random times when I've cast into the middle of the pond and landed a random fish, but observation and trial-and-error have provided with me focused target areas. I include them to illustrate how different they can be: 1) medium pond — opposite bank of where I stand there are walls of tall grasses/reeds that cast a shadow on the water. Frogs and flukes have worked. Perpendicular to one of the walls appears to be a shallow bed where bass are constantly jumping out of the water to feed. Casting into edge of that area (I can barely reach it) with flukes today resulted in 4 bass. 2) small quarry lake — I can cast as far as I want off the bank, but nothing ever hits. But when the bait enters a rocky drop-off 10 feet from the bank, I've landed several fish. Use wacky-rigged Senkos. 3) tiny run-off pond — there are frequently bass that jump out close to bank. When I stand on one end and cast parallel to bank, I have success with frogs. 4) large creek — there are always fish jumping out on the opposite bank. I can't reach them and the opposite bank is private golf club property. I've gotten a few on a Fat Ika (which I can throw really far), but it hasn't been worth going back. -- Net net: I've been to each body of water at least 6 times. I've been skunked numerous times at each. But watching and casting to different locations has been the recipe for success, as much — if not more than — the specific lures I've thrown.

  39. Just like someone said if you can see them they can see you. Sometimes this is a factor at other times it isn't. Like you said I've thrown things at em and they won't budge or they will scatter an other times they attack instantly depends on their mood. Longer casts and a slower presentation might draw their curiosity and trigger a bite. I don't like when people ask why the fish aren't biting like someone has a direct line to those fish's brains and can tell you lol. Simply what you were presenting wasn't to appealing to them at that specific time.

  42. I so agree with this! And, as a voracious reader about fish (bass in particular) I can attest to the fact that it's hands-on that counts. I want to add that being around other anglers speeds understanding and skill enormously! I've spent a lot of time on the water but very little around other anglers, and I think of myself as almost a novice. My particular bone to pick as far as hype is concerned is the idea that bass "fatten" for the winter. Here's an amazing article I found: http://www.fishingclub.com/magazine/articles/articletype/articleview/articleid/3548/fall-bass-blitz

  44. From the BPS website: "The Crankin' Stick's blank composition is a unique blend of IM6 graphite, fiberglass, and basalt fibers..." For those that are interested in this rod - ignore the BPS action ratings of "fast" and "extra fast." I don't think anyone knows why BPS rated the rods that way. What they call a "fast" fishes like a moderate, or moderate+. The "extra fast" fishes like a moderate-fast. These are cranking rods for sure...

  47. First 2 hooksets with braid I reeled in the top lip of the fish. Had to tone down the braid hooksets, but other than that, with floro, Im setting that thing as hard as I possibly can. Ive jerked 2lb fish out of the water and watched them fly over my head into the water on the other side of the boat with my hook through his eyes!
