  6. IMHO, those fantastic looking, super realistic, paint jobs, catch the crap out of....................fisherman. The dumb old bass around here will bite a crank bait with a bluegill pattern on the sides of it drawn by my 4 year old kid, just as much as they will those fancy ones. If they ain't biting cranks, they ain't biting them....a $20 lure isn't going to help you much there.

  10. Found a fantastic place to Trout fish on the Contoocook river. If you go into Hillsboro and turn left to W/ Main Street, then turn left onto sand mill road (You will see a power plant) there is a place to park you car it is the connection to Contoocook and north branch river. Fantastic fishing there. I caught 5 trout. 2 rainbow and two brown trout 4 nice perch and believe it or not a brookie (I threw him back. I don't like to eat the brook trout because of the low population), out of there in about an hours time. i fished from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM and boy were they biting like crazy After 7:00 pm. I did not bring my fly rod but rather used a rooster tail with a live red worm tail and it was. bite after bite. If you enjoy trout fishing I highly recommend this spot. trout is my favorite fish to eat so, any time I can hit the river for trout I try to.

  11. I´m a VERY GOOD fisherman that don´t care what color the hook is, as long as it is excellent quality and razor sharp. I´ve fished with red, silver, bronze, black hooks on my cranks for more tan 3 decades and see absolutely no difference in the catch ratio. If you think,/believe/imagine/hope that red hooks ( or whatever color for that matter ) are going to make the most insignificant advantage for you I´m the first one to recommend you should use them on every bait you own, the only thing I have to say against any color hooks is when you sacrifice quality and sharpness for color.

  12. Daiwa PX68. On the correct rod it easily handles baits down to 1/8 ounce or a little less. Pretty light too. I have one on a Major Craft Volkey 652 UL BFS, a very sweet combo.

  14. Taking my grandson fishing and watching him catch a 8.5# LM. He is a dedicated bass fisherman now and goes with me everytime I go fishing. Fishing with him and watching him catch fish is one the the greatest blessing the lord has ever given me.

  15. That fish qualifies. As long as you have a pic and measurement of the fish its good to submit. You do not need a pic of the of the fish on the scale. Congrats, big fish and longest string all in the same month. That's awesome...... (Not really...)

  16. I REALLY don't think it makes any difference. My biggest complaint about red hooks is that the paint wears off quickly.

  19. I fish a pond similar to you. I didnt think it held big fish, i could catch a crappie or bass a cast. I got sick of it real quick so i started throwing big baits. Ended up catching a 5lber. Big baits dont always catch big fish, but it will eliminate a lot of small ones

  21. I have been an on and off dipper since I was 16, I am 37 now, and really need to knock it off again, hopefully for good this time. I have gone as long as two years without it before, but always fall back into it. I am not going to promote or brag about what kind of dip I use, it's a disgusting, nasty habit that I am too weak to walk away from.

  22. I'll chime in with the Shimano guys, but add to it Daiwa Lexa, Procyon, Ballistic. While I've got experiences with the Stradic FI (love 'em), and Lexa (super impressed, love it as well), I don't with the Procyon and Ballistic. But as I've grown to appreciate some of Daiwa's features, I'd love to try a higher-end model. I definitely like Daiwa's bail system over Shimano's at this point. More positive feel to the Daiwa. But I'll know in another year if that holds up. One of my Stradic's bail system has gotten a bit wonky, needs to be serviced. Before I bought my Stradics, I did look into the Quantums, but Shimano won the day then. Not sure they'd win over Daiwa today.

  23. I went to Cabelas today and checked out the CI4 , been having thoughts of buying one. All I am going to say is that it is not the reel that I thought it would be. The Core is still a much better reel IMHO.

  34. Well, went out to Pony Pasture yesterday on foot and got skunked. I was out there from about 5 - 7pm wading around; throwing a crawfish crankbait and a jig. Last weekend I was on the James in my kayak around Maidens Landing and then Huegonot Flatwater and had two great days fighting smallies. I figured I need to find more places to fish that dont require hauling the boat around, so I thought Pony Pasture was a good place to start and I could at least catch some smaller fish. I read a few posts on here from years ago about places to fish at Pony Pasture, but I just didnt have any luck. The river was at about 4 feet and I stayed on rocks that were above water, didnt wade in anything past my knees really. I certainly didnt make it across the river to the Island, not even sure how thats possible. Anyone else have any luck there recently? Any tips on where to go at Pony Pasture? Does anyone know any other good small mouth spots on the James that can be accessed without a boat? I was thinking about heading to the Texas Beach area sometime next week. Today, I think Im going to hit Lake Rooty, try my hand at a pond instead of the river (and its nearby my work).

  35. You got me thinking on that one, had to look into it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_pitchers_who_have_struck_out_three_batters_on_nine_pitches http://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/3_pitch_inning.shtml Looks like the "immaculate inning" is more rare. Another oddity, I saw Tony Cingrani strike out 4 batters in an inning earlier this year, and that has been done 66 times.

  36. I wonder which is more rare, the 3 pitch inning or the 9 pitch 3 strikeout inning.........i really need to join that baseball stats site that all the broadcasters use.

  38. You timed it just right, Derrick. You can usually find a pattern quick this time of year, and there are some fatties, because they are starting the fall feed up. Try moving baits, like swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and shallow cranks to find active fish, then stay fishing the same depth you find 'em at. I like to go with HUGE presentation swim jigs, looking for the biggest fish around. Lobster or Space Monkey on a 1/4 oz bluegill swim or brush jig.

  40. I also looked at the Van Staal pliers for grins. Yes, they are more money than most of us would spend for pliers, but let's face it guys, most of us spend far more money on fishing than makes sense to most of the folks we know. I rarely fish salt water, but it does challenge equipment more...I have a couple of pairs of decent construction grade needle nose pliers with side cutters, and a cheap set of stainless cutters that have served me well. A little WD 40 occasionally and I'm good to go.
