  2. I have told my son(who is 8) that if he is picked on, it's better to punch someone in the face first than to be the one that's picked on. I teach in a middle school and I have heard so many kids talk about being picked on that it is not even funny. These are the same kids that kill themselves, or bring a gun to school and kill others. Most of the time, turning the other cheek is what should be done if it is a one time deal. But, if it is a repeating occurrence, a good punch in the nose can teach a lesson. I was picked on by this one kid in elementary. Finally one day he kicked me in the nuts. I punched him in the nose and he cried like a little girl. I didn't have another problem again till JH and a new kid came to school. Decided he would pick on me to try to make friends. One punch to the nose and he never bothered me again. I haven't been in a fight in 20 years and haven't even felt the need to. I have been in some situations at bars that most people would have got in a fight, but it was just a one time deal. However, being picked on over a period of time is different story. I think a one-time pinch is a turn the other cheek, but if it happens again, maybe a punch to the nose is warranted.

  4. My 5 year old was playing on the playground with his new friends at our apartment. All was going good until he came home crying that someone pinched him. After kissing his pinched arm my wife said to pinch him back if he did it again. Nope. I'm the dad, I give advice in matters such as this. I told him boys don't pinch. That's something girls do. I said he should pop him in the face. Nip it in the butt once and for all. The retaliatory strike should be more aggressive then the first strike. Least that's how I viewed it. I told him only do this IF someone hit him or pinched him first. If he swings first, he gets his butt spanked and he knows this. Then he bounced back out to play with his friends. Well boy was I "wrong". I got my butt chewed out over it. How dare I tell him to deck another child. And rah rah rah. I countered with the suggestion, perhaps he should just pick up a brick and clock the offending pincher with it. Wrong move Raider. She lit into me like a raccoon into a garbage can. Sheesh. I still stand by my first but of advice though.

  9. I agree with you Raider. I have told my daughters the same thing. Don't be a bully, don't pick on any one, walk away if it's just words...........but if they lay a hand on you, strike back twice as hard, and it won't happen again.

  10. I've dealt with bullies my whole life. Dangdest thing about it though none of them were bigger than me. It is always the small wanna be badass that comes gunning. It happened in elementary and middle school, now it happens at bars. Hence why I only go to one bar now. Anyway. I discovered long ago that if you beat the first guy to the floor and beat him bad enough. Then the next ten guys will think twice before trying it. I didn't put up with kids bullying other kids at school when I was there, and I don't put up with it now. I don't want the bully to respect me. I want him to hate and fear me. 29 years in it has worked out quite well. That is the lessons I'm trying to bestow upon my son. You don't start a fight physically, but by God you end it if it does get physical. You DO NOT pick on people, don't follow the crowd. You stand up for the little man. Some of my best friends to this day are "nerds", that I stood up for and kept people from picking on. Violence may not be the best option. But it is still an option. -Thorin-

  13. I had a bully ONCE in third grade. We were in gym and he thought it would be funny to throw a basketball as hard as he could at me while I was walking away from his group of friends. It drilled me in the back. I went home and my grandpa saw the welt it left on me. He said if anyone ever does this to you again, I want you to hit them as hard as you can between the eyes. Flash forward s week or so and sure enough, here comes the bully. This time he chopped me in the neck, so I did as told and let him have it. Busted his nose and he cried and ran away bleeding. My grandpa was called to pick me up, got in the car and he bought me a ice cream. Needless to say word spread and I wasn't picked on again. May not work for everyone's style of parenting but ill make sure my kids know the same thing. Don't start fights, but you can always finish them.

  17. My son just married a fisherwoman. We took her fishing a while back when she told us that she fished with her dad. She put on a torpedo and I explained my one, two, three, pop n pause to her. She did it perfect on the first cast and caught a bass. The girl can do it all and I welcomed her into the family. Now I need to find an awesome picnic area with good fishing so the whole family can go. I hope to get them all fishing.

  18. You see there's a difference to be said about fishing times. 1. You fish 2 hrs because that's the only time you have available to you, or 2. You fish that long because you can only tolerate so much of the outside conditions. I am mostly # 1. However, when its an Everglades fishing day, the clock goes out the window. I will fish 8-9hrs continuous, except thru thunderstorms. Heat or cold. So AK, be warned....

  19. I have tried quite a few. Ones that didn't make the cut: Rocket Craw.....never caught a thing on it Bottom Hopper.... decent but I like Zoom finesse/trick worms better Juice worm... decent but I like regular power worms better Beat shad............Garbage IMHO, these things are so frail, if you pull one out of the bag with a little too much vigor it ruins it. Smash tube......not a fan Ones I would use if I was out of my "regular" stuff Pit Boss....caught fish on it, it's decent, I just have more confidence in other stuff Craw Fatty....same deal as the pit boss Sick fish....pike love it........bass.........meh only caught a handful, I can't get over the obnoxious paint smell on them when you open the bag. Ones that are still in my rotation Grass Pig.....good quality, good action, let them sit in the sun on the dashboard of your truck and they soften up nice The Jerk.....denser than a fluke, so it stays down, and has the nice "shimmy" on the fall like a GYCB D-shad, or SK Caffine shad and is much more durable then both of those. Devil Spear....I like the smaller size better than the bigger, but it's a nice flipping bait that holds a big straight shank hook well, and they are a deadly as a jig trailer Slop Craw....This ugly hunk of do nothing plastic just gets bit.

  22. I don't know, I guess Im just used to it. Even in the Fire Academy I was the only one not keeling over in full bunker gear in the hot sun. Just make sure you drink water. I guess I would rather sweat than end up with burnt skin. I will say that the moisture wicking fabric does help to keep me cool.

  29. Gotta go with "true" on this one As evidence I refer to rule #24 of the gunfight 24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than “4″. Personally I carry a 9mm with federal HST 124 gr +P+ so I guess i'm breaking the rules, but then again i'm not carrying it because of the gator problem, I'm carrying it because of the human problem. Pretty sure if it came down to it I could lauch a couple rounds through the base of it's spinal column and put it down. I do teach people how to shoot after all

  32. I have used both the popper and the wtd lure. They are OK. The paint jobs on them are very nice, the hooks are great, but I still find myself reaching for the Super Spook Jr. instead. I'm sure they could work just as well, but I kind of feel like if it ain't broke why fix it.

  33. That is correct. AK, is getting cocky and he only wants fish 19" or longer. You see how that game plan is working for Martin who only wants 20" 's. Still waiting.... (Had to mess with you Martin I couldn't help it).

  34. I have a very similar spot here in NC that I use my kayak in. I use swim bait minnows all day and bring bass out if the water easily. Your situation may differ, but minnows are what I use. Occasionally a small spinnerbaits to attract some attention. Joe

  36. I am assuming he meant Revo SX, the SX is a magnetic brake reel, so that would eliminate any issue with centrifugal brakes. Maybe spool bearings but they would have to be in horrible shape to actually be screeching. I would remove the spool and wipe the lips down with alcohol, inspect the frame and clean the areas that the spool lips ride in with a Q-tip and alcohol. If it's new, I would not even mess with it, I would just get it replaced.

  37. Ha ha, now that is weird, I must be a mind reader. So you want a football mold that has two separate weedguard holes to accept two wire weedguards like the "Headknocker" jig I mentioned above? Well as far as I know there isn't a mold available that you can buy without having it custom made. Honestly, no offense to the original manufacturer of that jig, but as unique as that jig is, I find that a double weedguard like that really serves no purpose other than collect more weeds. JMO. However what the guys above are trying to tell you is that you can put in two pieces of wire in the hole where the original weedguard is supposed to go and pour it in place. Once it cools, you can then separate the two pieces of wire to form a "V". Also you can buy plastic weedguards that are formed in a "Y and glue them in place. If you PM me your e-mail, I can send you some pics tonight.

  38. Went out today to finish out my 5 fish. got three so only the two 15" will get posted up. wacky centipede and sluggo did the trick. Sorry the second pic is blury and the tape is moved off zero a bit when I laid it down but it is 15" I assure you. LOL Now rest of the month to cull, hope I can replace some of these guys.

  40. The wife and I fished Melvern again Saturday. It was a lot tougher to find the bigger fish for some reason. We had several in the 15-16 inch range but only 2 bigger than that and they were both largemouth, 17 and 18 inches. We tried a little bit of everything and caught fish on a little bit of everything but they were mainly small fish. I got onto some big white bass for a minute that were fun. Caught a couple really healthy channel cats that pulled really well on light tackle. Caught all 3 kinds of bass again, I think that's 3 trips in a row now

  41. I loosen the spool and drag on all reels when storing them between fishing adventures and in the winter. I like taking the pressure off the drag when the reel is not in use. So when I hit the water I adjust all reels the night before by balancing the baitcasters and setting up the spinning reels by tightening the drags. What your friend experienced happens to all of us, sooner or later. I have seen veteran bass fisherman do the same thing and to say the least, it was funny. It is like forgetting to put the plug in the boat before launching it. Happens to us sooner or later and all it takes is one time and you never forget to set up the rods and reels and put the plug in the boat.

  42. Parents are responsible for their children's behavior. Telling your child to respond in kind is the wrong lesson. The first action is for you to have a conversation the other kid's parents. Maybe they'll deal with their little troublemaker, maybe they won't. If they do, problem solved. Telling your son to punch the guy in the snot locker may end up with your son getting a real beating. If that happens, then what do you do? Beat up the kid? Beat up his father? That can get you in real trouble. The world is bad enough. It would be worse if all of us took matters into our own hands every time someone wronged us. There are authorities to handle such matters, whether they be physical attacks, theft, vandalism, you name it. If the playground is part of the apartment complex, and the parents won't deal with their little darling, perhaps a heart to heart with the owner or the manager might be the solution. They could ban the brat from the playground for a few days or weeks. I doubt your son is the only victim. All the management has to do is approach the parents, and tell them they have received complaints about the pinching, without identifying the source of the complaints.

  43. I know I couldn't help myself, but last night I was browsing japantackle.com and drooling commenced when looking at the JDM Shimano Aldeberan BFS (http://japantackle.com/Shimano/Shimano_Aldebaran_BFS.htm). 8.0:1 ratio and 2 gram casting weights?! Be still my beating heart! Thanks for the info, New. I looked at the gold CL reels, never bought. If money were no object, I'd have at least two of the Aldeberan BFS reels. Only thing I find lacking in my 50e is reeling speed. Prefer a 7.0:1 ratio...

  45. I use 2 different hook sets for T-rigs and jigs depending on how close to the boat I am fishing and if the line is vertical or horizontal. By vertical I mean straight down or out to about a 45 degree angle. Horizontal I mean a cast away from the boat more than 30' or 30 degree angle or less. The vertical hook set is a snap set by dropping the rod tip down a whipping it back into slightly slack line. The snap set will drive the hook through any basses mouth if they are not too far away from you. The horizontal hook set uses the reel to take up all the slack line, my rod tip is pointed at the jig ( I usually use this hook set with jigs) I crank the reel fast and when I feel some slight resistance then make a hard sweep set. Rarely miss getting a good with the 2 hook sets. I missed a lot of big bass using the snap set when casting a jig over 30 feet until developing the reel/ sweep set several decades ago and contribute the horizontal hook set for whatever giant bass I've caught casting jigs. Hook setting has a lot to do with sharp hooks, rod power and line strength. When using finesse tackle the rod, reel drag and line are selected for lighter wire hooks, it's balanced to put the force needed to drive the hook home. When fishing baitcasting tackle with 4 to 5 power rods, heavier line and hooks, the same hook set force works so I don't change hook setting motion because the tackle is balanced to get a good hook set.

  46. Already well into the fall up here too. Forecasted for 29 degrees tonight........but I'm in the Adirondacks. When they follow each other, grab a 2nd rod. Here's a recent pic, the 2nd fish (left) was completely oblivious, and wrecked the tube i dropped right in front of my raft.
