  5. I had not been able to get out on the water for a while now. And reading everyone’s reports and seeing all the PB’s and videos wasn’t helping any. I couldn’t take it any longer, so instead of hitting the rack last night, I loaded the “Night Ops” gear into the Truck and headed out. I was on the water around 10:30 pm and fished through the night. It was a calm cool evening. W/T was low 70’s and the A/T was low 50’s. There was a heavy wet fog/mist in the air that made everything damp. And the Bass, they were a chewing; single bladed spinner bait mostly with a decent topwater bite at first light. I hadn’t had a night like this one in a while. Smb and Lmb were being very cooperative and the average size was up a bit too which is always a good thing. I took several photos but the fog/mist made for mostly bogus pictures. I’m not complaining. I was glad to be out there and even happier to keep getting bit. My approach this night was no different than most summer night trips. I focused on wood and weed lines and the places that have both usually give up the better fish. It’s funny how when the fish are up and feeding, and I manage to stick a few, it makes me feel like I might have a clue . . . . . A-Jay

  6. Here are a couple of pics I took side by side with a Chronarch 50E. I guess you can't tell totally from the angle, but I would say it is slightly bigger...but not by much and don't notice it when I palm it I love size 50 reels and it definitely feels as comfortable. Of course I also had to buy a rod with the CI4+, so I got an on clearance Cumulus 7'1" MH/XF to pair with it.

  12. I was visiting my local tackle shop who sent today that they were having no tax on rod and reels sales. I had no idea they had these on stock was furthest from my mind. Until my guy I usually speak to there says, hey man did you see the new Chronarch? I was like WHAT? You have it in? He said yep, we have 3 in stock just got them. OH MAN! I WAS SO EXCITED! I had to check it out and HOLY WOW! Is all I can say, this thing looks freakin' awesome. Feels awesome, even though it's a 150 it feels so light and it felt like it was a size "50" reel. I didn't have my cash today, so I asked them to hold it for me until tomorrow! So I'm going to be a proud owner of a new Chronarch CI4+. I got the 7.6.1! Anyone else see them yet or purchased one? Perfect timing too, I'm going up north for a week (cottage) to get a lot of fishing. So hopefully I will have a nice review for everyone of my experience.

  15. nope, they're different. in addition to a different frame, the 13metanium has some magnesium in it's construction and aluminum micro-module gears; the CI4+ has no magnesium and standard brass gears that max out at 7.6:1 versus the 8.5:1 on the 13metanium. bantam1 says that even the SVS infinity brakes are different with a 6-pin system in the JDM reel and 4 on the new chronarch...interestingly, bantam1 says that he's gotten much better casting performance from the CI4+.

  19. I wouldn't give 2 cents for a worm binder anymore. From experience, I can say that the plastic bags last maybe a year or so and before that they get so that they don't seal totally. Worm binders are more trouble than they are worth. My advice is to keep all your plastics in the bags that they came in. Keep them kind of together by putting them inside a gallon zip lock bag. When the gallon zip lock bag fails (and it will) get another bag, you're out 13 cents or so. Really though, I'm not one to talk about tackle organization, because my approach is to bring everything. I stop when I start tripping over stuff in the boat. I generally carry a couple of gym bags full of soft plastics, kind of organized by type in various zip lock bags.

  20. I used to like fish sticks as a kid lol, but I don't like the taste of any fish anymore.... My inlaws are big fish eaters, so they will have a fish fry for the family after a fishing trip.... Its a fun gathering, lots of fish to be had... They are kind enough to fry me up some chicken....

  21. Two of the CQ 50's are mounted GLX BCR 803C's and the CQ 50 DC's are mounted on a NRX JWR 802C and a NRX JWR 803C. Since I just got the second DC I am looking for a new NRX for the CQ 50.

  23. Could be a manual jack plate. Livewells- Manual is same as fill/recirc ON. Auto is hooked up to a timer which will fill/recirc intermittently. Empty is your pumpout. I'm assuming livewell 1 and 2 are the aerator switches. It's possible they are only using one and the second switch is an option not on the boat. Trolling motor-There will be some play. Remove the prop and check for fishing line and that the shear pin is straight if it's bent, replace it. You can buy replacements online for under a buck a piece. You can also try rotating the prop 180* when you reinstall it. DO NOT RUN the motor for very long outside of the water. MK uses Nyloc nuts on their props. I believe there is a Nyloc wingnut you can buy as well. Nice rig. Looks real clean

  26. On the bilge pump. Auto should mean that it is wired through a float switch. When the water reaches a level high enough, the float switch will turn the pump on, and then off when the level drops. You may have a three way switch, off when the power supply to the pump is off. Auto when the power is directed through the float, and manual when the power is routed directly to the pump, bypassing the float. In some cases the manual position requires the switch to be held in order for the pump to be powered. What brand is the charger? It sounds like yours shows level of charge and when the battery is fully charged the lights turn off. Pull the prop off your trolling motor and check to make sure nothing, such as fishing line is wrapped around the shaft. Spin the shaft by hand. If it still clicks, it's probably something internal. There's no mistaking a jackplate. It bolts to the transom, and the motor bolts to the jack plate. Many jackplates are not hydraulic. They will have a jacking bolt (at least that's what its called on stock cars) that will raise or lower the plate to which the motor is mounted. In order to adjust the jackplate, you may have to loosen the bolts that secure the sliding mechanism. Livewells, I can't be of much help there.

  32. I would say $100 to $200 in lures/plastics and terminal tackle. Then another $100-$200 on rod/reels this year.

  33. Like above if you figure out the trips it gets real expensive real quick. I'd guess around 5k this year. Most of that cost is in gas/oil for the truck and boat. Boat maintenance is also another big one.

  35. Last 12 months wasn't so bad maybe a thousand , last 3 years around $15,000 I fished both salt and fresh so good surf gear can get expensive.

  37. Don't know..don't care. If spending your money on something you love that makes you happy, then the amount doesn't matter to me. All in all, it's a lot and I'd rather not know the number. Besides, my better half could hold leverage if she knew. I'm glad my money is spent on fishing and not in the bars or chasing tail anymore. I'd kill to get the money back from my 20's of doing that stuff. I could have 3 times the amount of gear if not more!!!!!!

  40. If I had to choose either of just those two, I'd go fluoro for the less stretch and slack line detection. I prefer straight braid for stained water and braid/fluoro leader for clear.

  41. Match the size of the hook to the bait. I'd be using different sizes for red, leaf worms, or nightcrawlers. Same would apply for baitfish, as small as a 1/0 up to 6/0 to catch the same sized fish. I do a lot of fishing with bucktails and flairhawks, form 1/4 oz with a smaller hook to 1oz with a larger hook, the target species and size remains the same.

  42. Reading this thread is eye opening! Can you say the blind leading the blind...just pulling your chain. Night crawlers, are you talking about Canadian night crawlers that are about 6" to 8" long and 1/4" in diameter? Soft plastic worm hooks are too big for live night crawlers. All you need is a size 1 Owner circle hook #5114 (octopus style) and either nose or tail hook the crawlers and fly line the worm without out a weight on 6 to 8 lbs mono line. This style hook will prevent gut hooking, as bass tend to swallow live bait very fast. Go online and look at Barlows Tackle catalog, click on hooks...this is a good reference guide. Tom

  43. Most of the lakes I fish have a very limited amount of space for shore fishing. So basically if the fish aren't in that particular area at that particular time, I'm S.O.L. If I can get 3 or 4 fish in a couple hours, I consider that a good trip. And like BassinLou said, if they're caught on topwater then so much the better. But in reality, every day spent fishing is a good day even if I don't catch anything.

  45. I do have a modern b/c, an Avet mxj, no question it's way more refined than anything I had over 50 years ago. On occasion I will mount it on a 10' rod and do some surf or pier casting using a diamond jig and it's fun for a change of pace. It is different than a low profile b/c, no level wind and lever drag, but easy to master. I do dislike the rod torque with a larger fish on, and the operation is not near as comfortable as comparable spinning for me. I can break up my fishing into 2 basic categories, inshore saltwater (surf, jetties, flats from a boat) and freshwater (LMB, peacock bass and snakeheads, there are as many similarities as differences in the two. I just love spinning, doing it for over 60 years I'm proficient enough to put a lure where I choose it to be. I find heavy vegetation not to be an insurmountable obstacle that would require me to switch to 50 # line and a heavy rod with a b/c to use for bass fishing. Thanks all the same, but I'm sticking with spinning.

  46. i too believe in ghosts and have seen one. i grew up in a house in NC that had a ghost, we named him charlie. radio would cut back on after turned off, my sister unplugged it after a couple times, and it still cut back on while unplugged. rocking chair would just start rocking by itself while at the same time the ghost would start changing the tv channels, literally flipping through them channel by channel till it found what it wanted to watch, usually the news. dogs barking at thin air with hair standing up. seen it walk out of my bedroom one night, the next morning i went to leave my room and the door was locked somehow, could only lock it from the inside, couldnt lock or unlock it from the outside. tapped my sister on the shoulder and spoke to her "hey, whats up" she went running out of the house...

  47. Reading this nonsense makes even my hair hurt. There are so many people that are far from beginners that use nothing but spinning gear, some on this site and can put that lure wherever they want it to be. I don't think there is any need to repost some the pics of the 20, 30 or 100# fish that have been caught on spinning. Nearly every anti spinning comment can easily be debated and people that use nothing but spinning do not constantly have the problems described. One problem not encountered are backlashes and windknots are rare, if you know what you are doing. It could be said spinning is for the more advanced fishermen , we are not dragging in 5# fish with 65# braided line.

  48. i used to fish spinning reels exclusively.. then i got a baitcaster about 3 weeks ago and there are differences in the way you do a lot of things.. biggest issue is getting the hang of casting them backlash free, but after that i prefer the way it balances and casts, and i like being able to put my thumb on the spool for things like hook sets, or adding more drag, but i have an all metal round baitcaster and i really love the sheer power provided by this workhorse of a reel

  49. I love my bass hunter but I suggest you do what I am doing to mine. These boats will fill with water very fast if you are moving quickly in ruff water and there are two vent holes back towards the back of the boat. If or when you flood the floor of the boat that water will then leak into the pontoons (rain will do the same). I am in the carpet cleaning business so it was easy for me to suck that water back out but others may not find it too easy. Also that dry storage ain;t dry once water gets in the hull. I plan on plugging those holes up. Basshunter says they are there for air expansion during temp changes. I will leave the storage hatches a little loose or drill a hole somewhere else where this water cannot get in. I managed to completely submarine my boat a couple of weekends ago trying out my new 2.5 merc. Was moving and stepped up to the front of my boat where my dog, battery, and trolling motor, were also. These little boats still float just fine when completely full of water
