  3. My son and I went old school one day and we took out our spicast outfits for some panfish action. We used the Rebel 4 pack Critter Classic - Teeny Pop-R, Crickethopper, Teeny Wee-Crawfish and Teeny Wee-R - and boy did we have a lot of fun. We were catching bluegill, crappie, small grass pickerel and a suprise 2 lb largemouth bass. We were fishing around weedlines and lilly pads on 6# test mono where these lure excelled for us. I wish I could tell you which one was a favorite, but I can't, they all caught fish and a lot of memories. I think my son is a Pop-R nut now...LOL If you have a young angler and you're looking for a great outdoor activity, the Rebel Classic Critter 4 pack lures is the way to go, you can't go wrong!

  5. Which is better, a saw or a hammer? This is what you asking in reality. Baitcasting & Spinning are just two techniques in the use of the tools we fish with. Each has it's place and time. Learn and use both.

  6. Really...........? The building business, whether it be residential or commercial starts with a developer, in order to get financing the an architect's plan is usually submitted. There is so much more than just the actual building design itself but the land away from the structure too. Infrastructure is different as they are government projects, the architect's plans are absolutely vital. A lot of education is required to be one, more than just complicated designs, a knowledge of metals, materials, plumbing, electrical, a firm will employ experts in each one of these areas. The building business is about as dependent on the economy as any biz can be, welders, pipe fitters, electricians and labor in general need work that these projects supply, there can be downtime and no real security. Security may come from being the person in charge, as one can always try and solicit new business, not that it's great all the time. The pressure is enormous but the reward can be too.

  11. Just bought a new motor for my little bass raider and thought i'd show everyone the new set up. It's a 3.5 tohatsu and it is so nice to get to get around the lake a little faster. Last year I just had the 40lb trolling motor and it got about 3 mph, with the 3.5 I am getting about 10-12 mph. Not blazing but getting to different fishing spots is so so much faster. With the new motor came a complete rebuild and I think it came out great. Moved the trolling motor and fish finder to the front and the battery to the rear. I tried some stuff from Yak Gear, pad eyes with bungees on each side of the boat to serve as rod holders.(kicked a rig off last year) A z-ring on the front for tying off the anchor. The Yak Gear stuff uses trigrip riviots and we will see how well they hold up over time.

  12. Casting over someone is creating possible interference with their ability to retrieve their bait or get a good hook set. It can also be described as casting into their space. I have a few buddies who will do this to me and I will return the favor. But I would not cast over someone who is not a friend.

  13. Finally, after almost 10 years, I topped my old personal best. I started around 1:30 today, and caught this dink off a war eagle black n blue spinnerbait. Fished for another 5 hours and didn't catch a darn thing. I threw everything I had in the arsenal. I was packing up to go and decided to try out my spinning rod with a black neon kriet kreature. Threw it on there with a 1/8 bullet weight and a 2/0 worm hook, Texas rigged. Cast out over a fallen tree, let it sink, then began my retrieve. Felt a strong tug, and drove the hook home. She come up and tail danced for me twice. I must have looked like a fool running back and forth on the bank to keep her out of the tree. She was pulling drag all over the place. Finally got her up out of the water and weighed her in at 5 pounds. I haven't stopped grinning since I landed her. I set her free to grow some more! I know 5 pounds isn't much, but she's certainly the biggest I've ever seen in person! LC

  19. Sounds like it could be a fuel supply issue. If it will rev fine while not in gear (not under a load) but bogs and refuses to rev while in gear (under a load) it makes me think that your engine isn't getting enough fuel. When under a load the fuel demands are greater than while not under a load, hence the difference when out of gear and while in gear. I would start by checking your fuel line from the tank to the engine. I have read, not experienced, that the ethenal in fuel will deteriorate the inside of fuel lines and cause an issue similiar to what you have described. Just a guess...

  20. That's a good deal the used ones go for 135-140 in the flea market. The chronarch sells for 200 new and is just a white version if it. Buy it, you won't regret it.

  22. Needle nose pliers and good set of cutters. Not sure if that is obvious or not, but ever since being hooked in the fingers with trebles and 3-4 lbs hanging off my hand for dear life I will never again fish without them. Since I incorporated that rule, I have never had a hook incident again.

  29. In general.... Spinning is more accommodating with lighter, small diameter line and light lures and baits (under 1/4 oz.). Casting gear works better with heavier lines, and baits heavier than 1/4 oz. There are exceptions, though options get pretty expensive outside these parameters.

  31. After reading this thread, I'm very thankful that we live on the coast, which includes Cape Cod. There are a lot of good fishing ponds around here, particularly on the Cape. Most of the folks who go to the Cape for fishing are after striped bass, or bluefish, plus the party boats that take folks out for ground fish. The ponds and lakes from central Mass, inland, are another matter. They get crowded with boaters, all looking to enjoy their activity, be it fishing, paddling, skiing, wakeboarding, jet skis, cruising on party barges, etc., etc. I fish those in the spring and fall when the pleasure boaters aren't active, or on rainy drizzly days which considerably thin the herd on the water.

  34. Recreational water craft and weekend vacationers seem to make fishing challenging every summer season. I find that fishing mid week and especially at night, really evens the playing field. You'll have the lake to yourself and more importantly, the fish are usually much more cooperative. A-Jay

  37. Check the weather and tides for clothing and target species. I fish every day and it always starts at the ocean. If I'm going offshore my 3 rods and tacklebag are ready to go, no prep needed. When I'm fishing inshore my target species and location dictates the rods I'm taking, any lure I need is already in the car. Freshwater is done in the afternoons, I know the places I fish and what to take before I leave, I do carry a little bit of back up in the car in case I have to make a change. I do not take a big array of baits, I keep things very simple. Fishing everyday, I don't need any reports. I don't keep a log either, what I did last year on this very same day has little bearing on today's action. Water level may different, the amount of vegetation may not be the same, nor is the weather. If I caught a memorable fish in the past I'm never going to forget what I used to catch it and for those 20" and under no point in keeping track.

  38. Best time I found is at night , lol instead of getting up early before sun rise that would be about the time I would be getting home if all I planned to do was top water fish. Maybe it varies from area and lakes you are fishing but I have always found the best top water action on darkest nights .

  42. I have 4 Abu's right now. Donated 3 others to my grandkids. Bought my first back in the late 60's. Easy to self maintain too. No special tools required. These reels are about as bullet proof as you can get; and can do anything with one that you can with a $400.00 reel. Best part is, you'll be passing them down to your grandkids too.

  43. In my necks of the woods a 3 pounder is ..... well, not quite interesting to catch for some of us in a place where a 10+ pounder is not uncommon. I did say 3 lber for some of us, however 3 pounds is most probably the largest fish most anglers will catch in any given day, what most catch, most of the time is around a pound and there´s a bunch of those. Bigger baits will catch bigger fish ? not quite true, fishing with bigger baits is not a solution, it´s only a part of the solution, yeah, 1-3 pounders hit and get caught by swimbaits, actually most of the fish I catch with swimbaits are ....... guess what ? 1-3 pounders. If what you want is to catch bigger fish don´t go around fishing with bigger baits in the same places you catch 3 pounders cuz that´s what you´ll catch, 1-3 pounders, bigger fish don´t hang around where smaller fish hang around unless bigger fish are preying on smaller fish, big momma basses don´t give a darn if smaller fish are bass, bass eat bass. Bigger fish have slightly different habits than smaller fish. So, if you want to catch bigger fish, start by changing the places you fish rather than changing the baits you fish, that helps but it´s not the solution. ( BTW, my first 10+ lber was caught with a Rapala Original floating minnow size 9 which is not exactly the largest bait I own and my PB, 13.86 lbs was caught with a Rapala Shad Rap size 7 , once again, not a large bait )

  45. I fished there once a few years ago. It was in June or July, I forget which, definitely post spawn. Previously I had fished it a couple of times in the late 80's. As I recall, the facilities were good. Ice and sandwiches were relatively close. There was a good ramp, with plenty of parking. Bathrooms were clean. Bring your own TP and handi-wipes. As far as the lake goes, I remember a main lake area and then two long arms. It is a decent sized lake (5000 acres or so, but I could be way wrong on the size). Banks were mostly clay/mud. There were some rocks, more so on the main lake area as compared to the arms, but there weren't alot of rocks anywhere. There was some standing timber, I guess there used to be much more, there were many stumps right at the water line or a couple of inches either way. I thought that the water color was dingy to muddy, visibility was often a foot or less. Wasn't using a secchi disc then so I don't have a number. My approach to summer fishing at the time was to stay pretty shallow, throw reaction baits like a spinner bait or square bill, and hope for pods of active fish. The plan didn't work that day. I think I caught two fish all day, on a square bill, off a stump, in 5 or so feet of water. I remember it being tough fishing, a pretty lake, for the most part, but tough fishing. I say for the most part because a couple of the more remote coves seemed to be a garbage dumping area.. Anyway, it has been a number of years since I've been there, I have better lakes closer and if I want to drive my big motor alot, I will just go to Truman. If I had to fish it now, this time of year, I would stay out of the creeks and stay on main lake points in 10 to 30 feet of water with jigs or jika rigs or something else slow.
