  1. Out fishing today, and about an hour after I get there this guy comes to a spot about 20 feet from me with a cooler and some tackle boxes. Obviously, he's here to keep fish and get dinner. We start chatting from about 20 feet away from each other and then nothing. About a half hour later I see him hook into a bass, and it's small. He takes it and throws it in his cooler. Me: "That bass looked small man, you know they gotta be 14 inches to keep them" him: "yea, oh well" Me: "put it back man, that's not cool." Him: "i've been doing it all year, i can't hook into the big ones so i keep whatever I can catch" Me: "That's really irresponsible of you" Him: "oh well" So I think about it, and I decide I should probably contact the DNR. I go off into the forest like im taking a tick and contact the local PD, who puts me through to the DNR. 15 minutes later the DNR arrives and confinscates this guys' fish, tackle, rod and reel, and everything related to fishing. After the guy leaves after being fined the Officer comes over, tells me the guy didn't even have a license, and thanks me for calling them. He also gets my information because I may have to testify in court against this guy. Would you do the same thing I did? I feel that as fisherman we have responsibilites to uphold, this being one of them. Taking undersized fish is the scumiest thing you can do.

  6. Your wallet may regret this post Flukes in white, shad Straight tail worms (Zoom Trick and Finesse), curly tail worms, lizards, brush hogs, craws, senkos, paddle tail worms (like Zoom Ultra Vibe), French fries (like Hag's Tornado) in a few different colors. Generally watermelonseed, green pumpkin and junebug are my staples. Size is also a factor, where you may want a few different sizes for a few of those baits. Worms and lizards are ones I always carry at least 2 sizes of.

  7. Unfortunately while I can say, ya Kenneth did have the original concept it can hardly be called anything more than a concept compared to the "bait ball". Kenneth's crank while a good idea appears to simply be a picture that is printed out on some of that decal paper and stuck on the crank. They actually went so far as to design 2-3 small baits to place within a three dimensional space to achieve their result. If it has been worked out to the extent that I would expect and it runs true is durable etc... It's honestly leaps and bounds ahead of Kenneth's original design. I believe, to enough of a degree that he would stand very little chance at winning any kind of legal battle regardless of his or Kopper's financial ability.

  8. Well I finally have something I'm not ashamed of showing I went out from 6pm to 8:30pm today, it was raining cats and dogs, and not much bass... but it did rain some bass, LOL. Oh, and the lightnings were striking left and right, and I must say with every flash of thunder I saw I wasn't sure if it's just the light or a flashback of my life I'm about to experience Anyways, below is yours truly, as well as an 18" fattie I pulled on a zoom green pumpkin lizard on a 4/0 EWG and an 1/8oz weight. Dropped it across the canal and let it sink to the bottom, few seconds later I checked my line and there she was so I think my total is 2x 13" dinks plus this 18" == 44... not exactly a top spot, but hey, i'm not giving up yet

  10. I'm sorry to say I know anglers that laugh at the thought of buying a Wash. D.C. fishing license because they believe D.C. has no DNR and they will never be caught. I also have people on my block that act like they're poor and need a handout, but they drink beer, smoke, and their kids have up-to-date sports clothing on. I would report any of them in a hart-beat for poaching and never think twice about it. If people are so poor they can't feed themselves there are places they can get help, not a handout, but real help; all they have to do is try. We were poor when I was a kid, but my Dad always had food on the table and cloths on our backs; he never took a handout when many were offered; we took care of ourselves and did what was right. So I give no quarter to sob stories.

  19. In terms of action, it may overlap with the senko a bit, but I always bring a bag of Fat Ikas with me in case I need to outfish my partner. I don't know what it is, but around here they kill in every shallow water hole around. Rig it texas style with the skirt up front and drag them slowly across the bottom. Every. Freakin. Time. Beeeyaam Baby! Something about the bulk of the bait just turns bass on. It's basically an overgrown grub with a bunch of wiggly tentacles instead of a curly tail. They love it.

  20. Three for a smallmouth. Smallmouth can have a variety of colorations, from a nearly solid bronze to tiger striped. Sometimes, they are nearly black. I found out an interesting thing on this year's Road Trip to Pickwick, while fishing with Dinky and 00Mod. Jeff caught a nice smallmouth with rather bland coloration. We put it in the live well, and after it had rested and recuperated, it had brilliant coloration. The fight dramatically affects its coloration. I suspect most if not all fish go through color changes, relating to their environment. In water with a heavy algae bloom largemouth bass can lose most of their color and can be predominantly white. When the water clears, they assume the bold greens and blacks, along with some white.

  22. I just ordered some of the Gamakatsu offset and EWG hooks from Amazon. Looked like good prices for the 25 packs. I will give them a shot. I picked up a small pack of the Trokar ones last night at the local store so I can try those out too. I'll grab a pack of Owners too. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

  23. Try using a smaller circle hook like a size 4 with that line you're using. Circle hooks are designed to not gut hook fish. You don't set the hook using them. When you get bit you start reeling in line and maybe lift your rod a little but the fish will automatically hook itself usually on the corner of its mouth. In theory even if the fish swallows the bait and because the hook is 90 degrees to the shank it should lift from the fish and then hook itself onto the corner of its mouth. If you try and set the hook, the hook will usually come flying out and you've lost the fish. There's lots of vids on them that will give you a good idea of how they hook the fish. Also if you're C&R them I'd crush the barbs down so if you do gut hook one its easier to remove the hook without the barb ripping out its gut.

  30. It depends on the bait. For thick baits, I will use Trokar or Gamakatsu EWG hooks from 3/0-5/0. When fishing thinner baits like worms, I use Trokar or Gamakatsu offset hooks from 3/0-5/0. I try to keep things as simple as I can.

  38. One of the best days I ever had it was in the mid 40's with steady winds over 30mph and winds gusting over 40mph. Boat control was a pain but the fish were killing spinnerbaits and traps. As far as the spinnerbaits vs swim jig they're both good windy day baits. If the water is muddy you may be a little better off with a big, colorado bladed spinnerbait but other than that they're both good. Living in Kansas fishing in the wind is a way of life unfortunately.

  39. Does this actually happen to people? I get irritated with myself more than anything. The fish are there, they have to eat to survive, I just didn't do my part and figure out what they're eating and where they're eating it at.

  42. I read an article a while back in our Sunday paper's sportsman section about the local DNR doing shock studies. The DNR shocked up a large spooted bass which proceeded to ticket them, revoked their fishing licenses (permanently), and even seized their boat for shocking without a spooted bass tag. They claimed to know nothing about the fabled spooted bass, but were told that ignorance is no excuse. Serves them right.

  46. If there are whitecaps on the water, it is windy. If the wind is strong enough to make my boat drag the anchor, it is windy. If I can't keep my hat on, it is windy. Actually, some of my best days on the water have been windy. It does present a problem with boat control, though. Don't limit your spinner bait fishing to windy days. Spinner baits can work well at other times, too.

  47. http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/eye-performance/201307/mlb-pitching-tom-house-frank-jobe-pitch-count-arm-stats-elbow-shoulder I have to say that my opinion on this is stop teaching 6th graders how to throw a curve and having them throw a million innings as hard as they can throw to get to the stupid little league world series. Just because the coaches and dads weren't good enough and didn't win anything doesn't mean you have to make your kid into the next walter johnson all you do is turn him into the next sandy kofax or tommy john. Let them be kids and play. The other half of the problem is these dad that coach don't have a clue and teach improper mechanics. When they are in highschool is when they should be taught this stuff. and IMO it even shows in cases like the DR where kids play ball all day year round. they play waaaay too much and waaay too hard as youths and their bodies are deteriorated by the time they are grown and ready to play in the bigs. That is my 2 cents and I am sticking to it.

  49. Devcon 2 Ton 30 minute is the best I found, out of about 15 different ones I used it is the only durable epoxy that stays clear, everything else yellows over a short time. Etex is another good one but it is thin and requires a drying wheel and multiple coats. Devcon goes on thick but it self levels so you don't leave brush marks and I do not recommend you thin it with anything, and the reason is simple, bubbles, everyone I know that has thinned Decon epoxy with alcohol has had issues with air bubbles even when no bubbles are left after coating, they still form.
