  3. The preparation for this day was long and stressful at times. I had thought of everything in my mind....... 1. Proper technique.........practice practice practice - CHECK. 2. Proper equipment........action, power and sensitivity - CHECK. 3. Weather conditions......check the radar, no storms - CHECK. 4. Timing........always a consideration - CHECK. 5. Patience and persistence......more critical than you can ever imagine - CHECK. 6. Tidal influence..........slack is not preferred for this method - CHECK. 7. Presentation..........can't be forced - CHECK. With preparation complete, now it came down to when. Countless hours spent coordinating schedules, re-arranging appointments, checking, double-checking and ensuring everything was ready. The scheduled window was fast approaching. The anticipation was overwhelming and almost numbing at times. Mentally reviewing the preparation I had done - checking, re-checking, doubting, questioning..............the seeds of doubt firmly taking root in the soil of my mind. Did I do everything I could? Only time will tell. I made it home after work a couple Wednesdays ago and settled in for the evening when I learned that the water conditions had changed for the better and my plans were suddenly rushed into almost a state of hyper slow motion. I had missed my chance a few times inthe past few years, but I was not going to miss this one. I forced myself to breathe and stay calm. Now was not the time to forget anything or rush and mess something up. I made my way to the prime location and waited..........the hours passed by ever so slowly......... ......6pm ......7pm ......8pm ......9pm .....10pm .....11pm ....midnight and the first signs of activity ....1 am comes and I find myself in prime position. ....a short while later and the moment finally arrives. A subtle sweep of the arms to the right then a little to the left. No time for slack now.......a steady pull and BAM!!!! A 7lb. 12 oz WHOPPER and she's a beauty. She was citation quality and definitely keeper material in my opinion!!!!!!

  4. My favorite phrase that you hear pros make after they win a major tournament is. "I caught it on a prototype lure". Which is code for. "I Used another company's lure and now my sponsor is frantically working to copy it so they can capitalize on it."

  5. Please don't pee on Topwaterspook's hands if you ever meet him. He doesn't like that. TWS, I've done refrigeration work in restaurants for the last 15 years. People not washing their hands in the restroom it the least you need to worry about

  7. I am an old guy and I wouldn't say that purple is "best"...but I will say it was one of the most popular colors when I started fishing plastic worms in the 1960s. They caught bass then - no reason why they won't now. I occasionally still fish Mann's Jelly Worms in black grape - they work - catch fish. A coincidence that just yesterday I got this 21" 4.38lb LMB on an 8" Jelly Worm in black grape...

  10. Spent Friday through Monday up at my summer home with the family. Got out to fish just about everyday with decent success. Weather was in the upper 70's clouds and sunshine for the most part. Had a few storms trickle in on and off Friday/Saturday. Water temps were uppers 70's and broke into low 80's on Sunday with a lot of sunshine. I had a lot of blow ups at the good hours for topwater, and I spent the rest of my time punching weed mats with my new Siebert Outdoors tungsten punch skirts. I will write a review in the tackle section of that after this post. Overall I had a great time with a lot of blow ups on the frog. I think every bass that hit my frog I caught, but I missed a dozen pike or so. They just can't seem to inhale them the same way a bass can. Lost a really nice pike at the boat. Here are some pictures from the GoPro of a few catches. Big bass of the weekend. 21" and 4lb 11oz. Just goes to show you the length and weight difference of the northern bass vs a southern bass. This guy was fun to catch and fought like a beast in the thickest, nastiest slop. You can see how much lily pad and weed growth I have to work with. I love it. Big pike of the weekend. Just around the 30" mark. Nice fish that smashed my LiveTarget frog. A few more pictures of other fish. I have some video footage that I'll try to put together showing some of the catches.

  13. Apparently my boy Andrew (10yrs) is pretty excited about the possibility of a trip the Bass Pro Shop this weekend (we are visiting family in Savannah). He presented me with this list yesterday afternoon. I can't put my finger on the exact reason, but it did make me feel pretty dang good.

  16. After number 2 I do wash my hands, throwing up I wash my hands, etc. But a simple little squirt where I only touch skin that no different than skin on rest of my body? (This also assume I don't get any pee on me..) Eh. If the door requires a push to open, I don't even touch the metal plate where 99.99% of people do..

  22. Managed to get out on Saturday morning at Black Hills from 6:30-12:00. Only managed one after switching to a super fluke on a weighted hook. Came back for revenge around 5:00pm for about an hour. Managed two with one around 3lbs and missed two others. Not bad for a short outing. I may need to start going out at the latter half of the day from now on.

  23. Suggestions: 1. Always open the bathroom door when exiting by using a hand towel on the handle. Throw the hand towel away after opening the door with it. 2. When opening a door use a fist with the part by your small finger placed high on the door if the door opens into the establishment. 3. If the door opens outward (required by new building codes for easy access out of a building in case of an emergency) try to use your small finger hooked on the bottom of the handle. 4. Look in grocery stores for hand sanitizer sheets to clean the cart handles. 5. Carry hand sanitizers in your car. Not being paranoid but we need to help control the germs we encounter to protect ourselves from getting colds, the flu, etc.

  28. Before you contact anyone, take the sideplate off, revove the spool, and check the spool race (the track that the spool spins on) ans the spool itslef for oil/water/liquid. It SOUNDS like you may have water or oil on the spool race, which is not conducive to casting. Also, you may have over-oiled the bearings. I had a Gen2 Revo Premier that had the same issue. 60 seconds and a q-tip and it was fixed. Try it.

  30. I have a couple of the carbonlite rods and really like them. The rods are very lightweight and sensitive and you can get them on sale occasionally for $79. Also, if you live near a Bass Pro Shops you cannot beat the warranty. I just got one for fathers day and one of the inserts came out of an eyelet and they exchanged it no questions asked without a receipt. I was in and out with a new rod in 5 minutes.

  31. With all of our fancy colors, sometimes the basics just work best. Purple, Black, Yellow (not chartreuse, but regular old yellow...) will work anywhere. Not as flashy to our eyes as Watermelon Candy, Green Moccasin or Fire and Ice, but still darned good.

  33. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Personally, color isn't that big a deal to me so discontinued colors don't bother me. I'm a believer in that old bit about there being only three colors, dark, light and something in between.

  34. I take it you urinate on your hands when you use the facilities? My pants are not germ infested hotbeds writhing with critters, so I don't obsess about washing my hands after touching stuff. If YOU are so concerned about cleanliness, carry hand sanatizer with you and wash your hands fervently instead of judging other people for not doing things according to your standards.

  36. Mvorbrodt, too bad about the pics and the big bass. Hopefully the bass will make it to be caught for another day. AKN-NJ, if this friendly tourney is held again a clarification has to be made if its only to be open to bank fishing. I thought every FL forum member boater or bank fisherman could participate. like Mvorbrodt, good observation and change of technique. Sometimes a little change like the one you experienced is all it takes to produce fish.

  41. I had a member step up and offer the winner 6 jigs to go along with the Rage stuff, just to sweeten the pot a bit. I may have to do a twist to the rules using the fellas that have responded. You guys may just have to do a little more work than simply guess a number.... Letting this up until the end of the day and then I'll make the final decision. Good luck.

  42. Whatever length rod you feel comfortable with. I have several UL and L rods for different applications. My favorite is actually a 6' 8" L dropshot Crucial rod. It launches little baits and is extremely sensitive. For a purely fun fight I have a 6' Avid UL that makes almost any size fish feel like a monster. I'd suggest something in the 5' 6" to 6' range for most applications and a good, limp 4-6 pound mono.

  44. There was more water than the last time I was there, but I didn't even consider going on the sign trail. All of my fish were caught at the very west end of the canal in the open water. Just gotta find moving water, eel grass and sandy bottom. I usually look for the little islands that are close together and I will chuck a spinnerbait or swim bait to locate fish. Once I catch one or two, I then go with the topwater and dial it in.

  45. There is a rebel crank bait that looks like a cricket.......I think its called the crick hopper. This is an awesome bait to catch bluegill and the bass. Sometimes even big bass. You can reel it really slow and it just makes a ripple across the water. Its a key bait!

  47. I have always loved ugly stick. It has been my go to rod for years (spinning) they might not have the best feel. But you cannot beat them for people just starting out. You will hear people on here talking about snapping rods on hooks sets on $100+ rods, its probably very tough to find a person who has ever snapped an ugly stik on a hook set unless they managed to snag a speed boat. But then again if they were using power pro and an ugly stik, its possible they ripped the lower unit off the boat.

  49. Didn't have a working scale because the chain on it broke when I tried to lift this one to weigh it. 1/2oz homemade jig and 14lb Vicious Elite next to a dock. I've caught plenty of them this size fishing for flatheads that I have no problem calling it 40lbs and probably heavier. We catch a lot of hybrids fishing for bass during the fall and winter also.
