  1. Only 17 combos left? Are you insane? How can you ever hope to catch bass with only 17 combos? You poor poor soul! Congrats on the new bow!

  3. I pray I don't stir up a hornets nest with this but the only people we can blame for not having stuff made in America is ourselves for electing and re electing idiot politicians who bankrupt corporations with taxes and regulations. Detroit is a desolate wasteland, and all day long I see foreign cars on the road. I could go on further with examples but it just aggravates me. Just saw a post on Fox about how California is trying to restructure farm conditions for chickens. Which is going to put 1,000 of farmers out of business. So soon our eggs will be coming from China. The politicians will spend billions regulating every aspect of our lives instead of spending that money to create jobs thus losing Made In America. Here in CT we just lost just shy of a thousand jobs from gun parts manufacturers because of the draconian gun laws they passed. Guess what 3 companies out of business and 1 moving to North carolina, more jobs for China!

  5. Apparently my boy Andrew (10yrs) is pretty excited about the possibility of a trip the Bass Pro Shop this weekend (we are visiting family in Savannah). He presented me with this list yesterday afternoon. I can't put my finger on the exact reason, but it did make me feel pretty dang good.

  7. It isn't a bad rod but for 430-$40 dollars more you could have got a GL3 which is head and shoulder above the GL2. I was going to get one after the redesign but looking at a price tag of $200 with standard aluminum oxide guides and a blank that is heavier than just about every other rod in its price range made me pass. The thing of it is though if you like itand it helps you fish then it is more than worth it and one thing I can say is the handle has to be one of the most comfortable handles I put my hands on and that alone would make it worth it if you value comfort along with performance.

  8. Brother and I just got done Turkey pond in Concord. We each got our PB 5 lbs each. I'll try to get pictures up later. EDIT: My brother in green his fish was 5lb 3oz, I'm in tan and my fish was 5lb 1 oz. Our previous PBs were both 3lb 8oz so this was a nice surprise.

  9. liked the gl2 for worming n jigging, the 7h gl2 crankbait is a beast of crankin rod! felt real good on the 6 and 6xd. got better feel, less weight and better balance out my falcon caras. if u havent tried them, take a minute to play with one, light and sensitive! my favorite rods and have a very similiar pricepoint than the loomis. i havent had a single problem with the warranty of my falcons at all and have been very pleased with thier customer service. but if your gonna spend 200-220, try the cara line. now if u wanna step up n spend another 60-100 bucks, try the imx for sure! even better rod but ur gonna pay for it! lol but hope htis helps you out is any. my experience says gl2 is good rod but for the cost, i really feel like thier are some better rods out there for the cost and maybe some cheaper that are just as great. ive said it before but your gonna get what u pay for in the area, but when it comes to spending the money we are now days on fishing toys. i think it doesnt matter what the price tag says as long as feels good to you. but when your spending 200+ on a rod, its all about preference also, just a matter of what YOU like

  11. Fished Pickwick in TN Wed. afternoon and Thurs. morning. Caught a lot of small bass, mainly smallmouth, on plastics. I could find fish deep, not sure what they were, but could not get them to bite a jig or swimbait. I don't deep crank and must admit I'm not very good fishing deep. Caught several on topwater early Thurs. morning, but once again mainly smallmouth.

  12. I was up there a week and a half ago. We caught 50 or so. Majority were in that 2-3.5lb range. Caught some on Carolina rig, 6xd, and 10xd. Caught the most on 3/4 football jig. Fishing humps, ledges and underwater points. Caught in 18-25 FOW. Gotta put time on the water and have plenty of spots to check til you find some stacked up.

  13. Do you have a local fly shop? If so they may let you cast the line. For a reel I would look at Allen reels, they are fantastic. For line I would look at Scientific Angler or Rio line. I don't know specific models.

  14. i was fishing in a creek yesterday. catching small spots on 4''worms with ultralite gear and having a blast. i caught 1 and noticed 2 dead large flying male fireants in his mouth. thought it was odd showed the guys in the boat then threw him back. a few fish later a spot around a 1lb threw up a teaspoon of the same ants in various stages of digestion onto my deck. ive never thought of bass keys in on something like swarming ants. very trout like to me i wish had had my fly rod and tackle box with my brim ants. wonder how well matching the hatch would have worked. and going by our success the zoom worm hatch was on as well

  16. When I spend $ for fishing equipment, I buy the best quality stuff I can afford and I don't care who built it. American company wanting to compete? Great! Build the best, better than Brand X assembled with components from country Y in country Z, incorporated in country Q, and I'll be first in line. All the talk about what constitutes "built in the USA" is like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin - pretty much useless IMO. Don't like it? Hope for the invention of time travel and go back to live in 1950 before the modern world developed. BTW, fishing reels used to backlash like crazy back then!

  19. #10 InvizX is a good fit for spinning tackle, but treat your line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner and DO NOT overspool. For baitcasting gear I prefer #20 AbrazX.

  20. I'm certain that almost all of my Shimano reels do the same. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. You can try what RM said. If not you'll be just fine or the next time you do a little maintenance you can try to snug it up. Enjoy that new baby! You're going to love it.

  21. I rarely use 12. I usually throw 10 or 15. I would say yes its what I would use in most situations. Are you throwing a 7" worm or creature bait?

  22. TrippyJai is right..... There is a heavy coil spring under the drag star that keeps upward pressure on the star and star drag click pad just under the handle. Remove the handle nut cap, then Crank the drags all the way down. Now using an 11mm nut wrench tightn the handle nut and replace the cap. The slight wabble of the handle should stop, the drag star will still wobble slightly... Good Luck & Tight Lines!

  23. This has been replaced by the mojo rig for me but when I am fun fishing and quickly want to add weight to my weightless rig I revert to the split shot rig. My favorite lure to fish on these are Zoom finesse and roboworms. Simply cast it out and drag it back. I can cover a lot of water moving this rig and catch a ton of numbers on it.

  24. the rivers i fish a white spinnerbait and rapala x-raps in the black and silver color do really well. You mentioned not getting hung up but the rebel lures rebel crawdad crankbaits flat out catch the smallmouth, but with any crankbait you may get hung some. hope this helps

  25. I didn't know they even called this split shot rig and I am probably doing wrong, but here is how I use split shots... I just use split shot when I need more weight than weightless and less weight than bullet weight. I adjust the weight until it feels right. I would like to be able to feel the bait/weight just a tiny bit. I mainly use with stick baits on spinning set up. I sometimes used 4" single tail grubs. i especially like to use over submerged grass area by hopping over it just above the grass. The retrieve is not too slow and not too fast the way I do. This was my go to set up to introduce the sports to my children.

  26. I usually wait until August before I start fishing again. Things for me really heat up in Spring Creek during that month. I may try to fish it a bit earlier this year to see if I can yield the same results. This time of year for me is tough though. I'm not that good at fishing deeper water. I know that is something I need to learn and get better at.

  30. I've been smashing them on the ledges in the 18-25 FOW range. C-rig, Football jig have done the most damage, but I've caught them on cranks, swimbaits, and spoons too. Mostly fish in the mid lake area.

  31. I just signed up on the site and am new to pickwick fishing this year. Recently bout a ranger 520 vx, been 20 years since i had a bass boat. I have been catching em on brush hogs in 17-25 ft of water. Have caught some on crankbait but not near as many as plastics.

  36. i just looked at the vest and it gave me an idea... maybe i could add a small bag to the back of the seats (we upholstered them ourselves), to carry the small plano box and even some pliers, knife and such.... on my jeep i have seat covers with bags on the rear, and they are very useful for keeping things organized, nearby but out of the way... ill see how this turns out... something like this, but much smaller and suited for the plano box:

  37. Preston, a few dock rules. 1. Bass like to hide and be under something to feel safe and wait in ambush for an easy meal. Docks allow this to occur. 2. Bright sunny days are best for docks as the bass will be under them as stated above. 3. Cloudy days allow the bass to roam so docks are just another target but maybe not the best target. 4. Docks close to deep water are the best. 5. Docks built close to the water are best. 6. Docks with grass, brushpiles and fishing rods on them are the best. 7. Skip plastics under the dock with a spinning rig to avoid backlashes. 8. Throw plastics all around the dock, starting in the front and working back to the shoreline. 9. Concentrate on any grasses next to the shoreline. 10. Concentrate on any lily pads around docks. 11. Concentrate on any wood (blow down trees) around docks. 12. Hit as many pilings as you can with your plastics before moving on. Hit them a number of times and from different angles. 13. Throw your crankbaits and spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits, etc. parallel to the sides, in front of the dock, and all around the dock. 14. Throw the moving baits many times before or after you throw your plastics. 15. Throw your plastics on a Texas rig, a Drop Shot and a Shaky Head. 16. Skip your Senkos or YUM Dingers rigged wacky under each dock. Throw them at least five times each. 17. Throw your Senkos or YUM Dingers all around the dock and hit all pilings. 18. Throw your moving baits in between the docks from the shoreline back to the boat when moving from dock to dock. 19. Consider throwing your jigs and pigs under and all around the dock 20. Approach a dock quietly and from the side. 21. Try to use your trolling motor as little as possible and be very quiet. 22. Have the net ready to roll without much movement on your part. 23. Fish each dock to the fullest before moving on. 24. On a day when you want to study the docks take your boat and troll all around them while you view your electronics to see if you can spot any underwater structure, holes, drop-offs and if there is any deep water nearby. This information is just for starters. If you do catch a bass do the same thing over and over and over again and again and again as you have found the pattern for the day. All the best.

  42. I, like a lot of people, don't want to pay the high prices of sunglasses. Not that they aren't worth it, but glasses are easily crushed, left behind, dropped in the lake, etc... So I choose to go cheaper so that if I destroy mine, it's not a big deal. Ironically, every cheap pair I own last an eternity. Every decent pair I've ever had, I've broken or are in a lake.
