  1. When you look at the laundry list of features that each reel utilizes there are a few more on the FJ. The FJ is also slightly newer than the CI4. I had a hard time deciding but ended up getting both in the 2500 size. I would ask for the closeout Ci4 for your birthday from your parents, the FJ from the Tooth Fairy, and wait on the new CI4 from Santa. That should cover your basis and erase any bit of doubt in your mind.

  2. Taking another whack at it. Sorry. Water Temperature = Days to Digest a Minnow 40* = 8 Days 50* = 7 Days 60* = 2 and a Half Days 70* = 24 Hours 80* and Higher = 18 Hours 73* to 75* is the most efficient metabolism for a largemouth bass. Then there is the "search and destroy" thinking of a largemouth bass. This means that the bass wants an ambush advantage. Bass feed only 10% to 20% of the day. The rest of the time they hide by things and cover and hang out in areas they feel safe. Bass also like to have a "roof" over their head when not feeding. They will use the water's surface as a roof or go deep. They like grass beds, lily pads, boat docks, piers, blowdowns, brushes, rocks, bank undercuts and what ever they can find that they will feel secure. Remember, a largemouth bass is an opportunist eater. If something looks easy to grab they will take the opportunity to hit it. This is why Senkos and YUM Dingers work so well. They are slow moving and fat objects that the bass think is an easy meal. And one more tidbit I just thought of. The seasons of the year also have an impact on how often and what the bass will eat. Winter = Shad and Minnows Spring = Crawfish and when they spawn lizards and brush hogs and tubes. Post Spawn = Shad and Bluegills Fall = Shad and Bluegills The seasons will also dictate your bait and bait color like in the spring and fall a crawfish colored Rat-L-Trap. We will save hearing, seeing and feeling vibrations for another time. Each can have an effect on the feeding habits of a bass. Try to locate books on the bass themselves and their behavior so you will understand what they are doing from their perspective under the water. The fish is an amazing animal that has strong instincts that you have to out what they are for that particular day and hour. And attend seminars; read articles; and get educated on the ways and habits of your enemy. All the best and post some pics of those hogs you are going to catch.

  4. Great baits, rig them just like the video instructed you. You have to be creative on the smallest size. Fish those on a size one hook, and reel them slowly. The tails are so small that if you over power them they will rollover. The bigger two sizes are not hard to fish at all. Again, just follow the rigging instructions of the video. Have fun.

  5. Bottom line is it is hard to tell the size of a fish by a picture and this robdob guy enjoys getting people riled up for no reason. I am also guessing he is the one who knows everything about al ltypes of fishing and would probably not be fun to fish with but whatever. Reminds of the guys on the Jeep forums i frequent who know everythign about off roading but their jeep is still stock and never taken out of a parking lot... The OP caught a big fish, no doubt and i wouldn't be surprised if it was 7+lbs but we will never know. It just sucks that one guy had to derail what could have been a fun thread about the one that didn't get away but we don't know how large it was since it was caught a long time ago.

  8. Sometimes if I get in a slump I'll grab my ultralight and go catch whatever bites a little 2" grub. Sometimes I think we over complicate things and going out and just catching some fish will help get your confidence back.

  9. The ci4 is soooooo much lighter. I can understand getting an fj in the 1000 size but when you enter the 2500 and up in the fj your wrist is going to get a workout if you are doing 3+ hours of finesse fishing. The 2500/3000 ci4 is AMAZING.

  12. I took a break from the Pursuit of Giant bass, as I had an opportunity to fish with my hero. The days of fishing together do not come as often as they have in the past, however getting out on the water with my wife has been and will continue to be both a priority and a blessing. Lynn’s favorite place to fish is a lake that is manual power and artificial baits only. The two mile two- track down to the water deters all put the purists, so we routinely only have to share this with the locals; the loons, eagles, turtles and some massive deer. As is often the case up here, the morning started out cool but warmed up quickly. It was our first time here this season and it was nice to be back. After a few picturesque shore side photos, we hit the water with expectations of getting bit. We were not disappointed as our watermelon flukes were gobbled up like they were going out of style. Nothing to really brag about, but hardly more than a few minutes went by without one of us getting our string pulled. As the morning wore on and the wind came up, Small spinner baits came into play which of course attracted the pike bite. Boy they can really do a number on a bait and is fairly short order. Today was the type of day, that in the past, was taken for granted. That doesn’t happen anymore. Warm sun, gentle breezes and Big Smiles, were a plenty. Quiet moments need not be filled with anything. I hope we can go again tomorrow. A-Jay http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/gallery/album/810-north-woods-portage/

  15. If the tournament allows bass with lip hole, make up a cord type stringer with stainless steel clips and a weight to keep the bass in the water when fishing. Put the bass in the cooler with water to transport. 3% over the counter hydrogen peroxide mixed 1/8 cup to 5 gallons will, keep bass well oxygenated for a few hours. Also add C & R or Please Release Me, both are Sure-Life products as directed to the livewell water. Also use a pool floating thermometer to keep watch on the livewell temps, should be around 70F. Good luck. Tom PS, PM me email and I can send a photo of the weighted stringer.

  17. You could get multiple scales from the same manufacturer. Weigh a known weight and see how much each is off. Then do a MLF style weigh it as you catch it but you would have to draw for partners so that the guy in the boat with you isnt your buddy.

  18. You hardly ruined anyone's day here but this forum is about comraderie and people generally get along and may rib people for exaggerating their catch but in a light hearted manner. You on the other hand have taken more at attacks in an effort to cover up your own inadequacies, which is fine, you live your life and i'll live mine. Your holier than though, know everything attitude is what i, and judging by other posters, have a problem with. The minute you know "everything" is the minute you stop learning and improving in anything. And you are wrong on both counts for your assessment of my avatar pic. I am nowhere near the potomac and the fish on a certified scale weighed 6lb 1oz.. If you fish long enough in an area that has large fish your chances of catching one is also increased even if it is just luck. The big girls gotta eat at some point and the more time on the water the more chances you have of making that happen. My PB is an estimate of weight but i figure she measured a shade under 26" long and was full of eggs so i am guessing i was probably in the vicinity of the correct weight but she flopped out of my kayak before i could get an offical weight.

  21. yes, There is a kit to convert a cooler to a live well at BassPro for about $40. It has a pump that can be in the water and cycle through the water. I have one for my cooler.

  25. I not prodding at you for the remarks you made to the op. Rather, it's your attitude in general to the others in this thread. Your tone just kind of sounds like you enjoy putting a finger in other folks eyeballs. I don't like that.

  26. Tackle warehouse.com their 2 day shipping price is very reasonable But I would second what MCS said Gander Mountain and Dicks. You might not have Gander by you but most likely you have Dicks. (Dicks Sporting Goods is my spot! I got 2 free abu Garcia reels and I bought a St. Croix rod and I broke the tip pulling in a 3 pounder, was my fault. Took of back to dicks was trying to think of a lie to tell em and they just told me to go pick out another one... Now that's excellent customer service!)

  28. Dicks here in Jax has some spro in store, I know they have the Mcstick, Frogs and Bucktails I would imagine they might have or could order little Johns And I know Gandermountain carries all their stuff. We are lucky to have two up here in St. Augustine and North Jax. So if you have those two retailers down there then check them out.

  30. It will work but in my experience not all that great. The water needs to be cycled through once in awhile with new water. I did the same thing in my first jon boat years ago with an old metal cooler. You have to be real careful with circulation and watch the temp or the fish will die.

  31. I use both flouro and braid for spinner baits, depending upon conditions. I like using #50 braid if fishing thick grass like kissimmee grass or pepper grass. If the spinner bait gets hung up, just pull straight back and keep fishing (I notice I get a lot of my bites, when that bait "rips" out of a snag...reaction strike). I like the braid for this kind of fishing, also, because braid really transmits vibration well (when taut) and you can easily tell if you have some vegetation on your lure. You want to use a long, med action rod with a fast tip for this kind of fishing. You want some compliance in the system to keep the fish buttoned up, since the braid doesn't stretch. For open water/clear water, I like using 12-14lb flouro. I think I get more bites than I do with braid when fishing in the open/clear water, and the flouro runs a little deeper.

  32. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/user/6038-speedbead/?tab=gallery look at that picture... that fish is between 7 and 8 pounds and it truly looks like it is. So compare that to some photo's you guys think are also 7 and 8 pounds.

  33. I live in Kansas like my profile says but I didn't say anything about them ALL being from Kansas, several of them were from Mexico. It was a response in reference to your statement "Have you ever even weighed a fish on a real scale?" I was merely displaying that I have indeed weighed my fair share of real fish on real scales. My scale may be a $15 Rapala scale but they are surprisingly accurate. True, you may have had one be way off before, but length and girth doesn't lie. You could search for a little informal study member Goose52 did on the accuracy of those little Rapala scales were surprisingly accurate. As for the fish in my avatar not coming from Kansas, do a Google image search of La Cygne lake big bass, here's a link to pictures of a 9 pounder caught out there not long ago. It kicks out fish nearing and over 10 pounds every year. I spend lots of time on it every year. http://www.conservationcafe.com/fishing/journal_detail.asp?wID=4653&iArticleID=7660 I do fish well over 100 times a year and I've been fishing my entire life (my parents have pictures of me fishing in diapers) and have been fishing tournaments since I was 16. I've caught plenty of big fish throughout my fishing career, I have no reason to lie about the fish I've caught and have plenty of pictures if you'd like further proof feel free to scroll through http://s1136.photobucket.com/user/bluebasser86/media/101_0015.jpg.html?sort=3&o=504

  34. If you ask 10 people on this site if they beleive bluebasser caught them all in kansas and the weight was correct they would firmly beleive it... You should read the Fishing Report forum every once in a while, you will run into several posts by bluebasser and see his fish...

  36. I've never superglued my knots for catfish. You're fishing heavy line so just make sure your knot is cinched good with a good pull to test it and you'll be good to go. I'd be worried about the glue possibly causing a chemical burn or something to that effect with my line and weakening it.

  38. As a boater, I would NEVER expect my partners to help with repairs. Not unless is was something they directly caused while doing something stupid. But maintenance? No way. I own the boat, I'm the one that decides when it hits the water, so it's all on me.

  40. I have to tell you guys, we designed these jigs because it's our favorite styles/colors...and we USE them! Seriously, I can tell you mine are designed to my specs because it's just killer in my area. I have many different sizes and colors...that I PAID for btw...because they work! And I know the mods did the same thing. These aren't just jigs with our names stamped on them, they're made exactly to our specs. And the cool thing? A portion of each sale goes to Tackle The Storm!

  42. Fish big and slow. In other words, larger baits with a very slow retrieve. Large bass get big by not expending too much energy (why you slow down) and when they use their energy, make sure the meal is worth it. You won't put as many in the livewell but your average size should increase.

  49. I understand you are young and do not have much life experience. BUT it's called "private property" for a reason. You asked, and was told "no". In my state that denial of permission makes it "criminal trespass" which is a felony. Youth does not exempt you from the law of the land. When you are older and have property of your own that you payed for and have to be responsible for accidents or injuries that occur there, maybe you'll have a better understanding of why it is this way. For now, I recommend you have enough honor for yourself and respect for the property owner to honor his wishes. Who knows when approached in a respectful fashion at a later date, he may grant that permission. HINT; never call. Always approach the man in person, dressed nicely, and be respectful. Sound like your Dad? I am a Dad. Another thing; taking your brother and exposing him to the consequences is not an honorable thing to do in my opinion. Just my .02.
