  2. I'll add what you guys don't know is i'm gonna buy a few florida strain LMB, keep em in a hot tub with a constant water temperature of 67.9 degrees. These fish will be handfed trout filets injected with growth hormones. When they get big enough, I will drop a senko in said tub. Rest is history fellers.

  3. Being a Florida fisherman I agree with the posters that do not think Florida will yield a world record bass. I've yet to catch anything close to a 15# bass, 200# tarpon or 50# snook, and I fish every day for the last 10 years. I've caught some really nice fish but those numbers are in the stratosphere. There are those that have a credible history on this site and claims of larger fish without a pic are more than believable, other claims may be a bit dubious IMO.

  4. I don't know about everyone else but my thought towards that is that there is no point in setting one set of rules. I feel that if each league or series followed the same rules there would be no point in having more than one league. I feel the different rules differentiate the leagues and series and anglers can choose what set of rules they like and the league they want.

  5. I would watch out for a major headache in the first 48 hours since the incident. it may be the only sign of a deadly brain infection that will kill you about 10-12 days later without any other sympthomes. And if you get a fever head straight to a doc as well. The other day I got snakehead blood and water from canal sprayed DIRECTLY into my eye, and couldn't rinse it for hours. Some feared that the zombie apocalypse would start with me, but i'm still here and kicking a month or so later ;-)

  6. Looking back at some of my older posts, I discovered something. I'm a "grumpy old man". So right up front, my apologies to anyone I have offended with my "grumpyness". Is that a word? And my appreciation to all on this forum for putting up with me. I'll try to put that part of me on a leash. That taken care of, I had a great day fishing today. 2 bass 5# each 1 bass 3#. Seven bass total, but those were my biggest. I can assure you, I won't be grumpy for a few days at least. Thanks guys, for your patience with a "Grumpy old Man". Hootie

  8. I went 3 for 3 this morning with a couple of other strikes that didn't hook up. Gotta love my new Cabo 40, talk about a power reel, mounted on an Okuma 8' mh inshore rod amplifies the pleasure even more. Took 2 of us to lift this puppy up.

  10. You start with Buck Perry's slogan, i.e. "The fish are deep. . . .or shallow. . . .or somewhere in-between." Then you apply the In-fisherman formula, i.e. "Fish + Location + Presentation = Success" What this means in real-speak is that you make an educated guess as to where the fish might probably oughta be, according to what you know about seasonal patterns and go from there.

  12. I think you'd be right either way with a bass that big. I probably would have kept it and suffered some guilt. Or, take photos and measurements and have one of those high-quality replicas made.

  13. Whats funny about all of this is when Hawg Tech posted about the bearings the other day, no one mentioned how useless freespool time was.... Where is Irene when you need her?

  14. Think for a moment... "I tied on a crank and rooted it through the area and it only came up with a few strands" If it died, it would still be there somewhere. Since it's a GC pond, I'd wager that they came in and clipped it and took it out. They've been doing that on the lakes here in FL for years.

  16. Each particular area of our country has various environmental issues & concerns that require a set of regulations to benefit that particular region. And each state DNR has the detailed information and studies regarding their individual environment. To try to alter that, in order to adhere to any kind of a standard set of rules, to me, is not a very good idea.

  17. 12-15# CXX and say goodbye to breakage issues. People complain about memory issues with CXX, but on casting gear I find this to be negligible.

  20. The new Max series and the Orra's are low end. You most likely will never see the lifespan from them that you have seen from the UltraMag's. If all you need is a drag renewal I suggest you simply replace the UltraMags disks with Smooth Drag brand Carbontex and continue servicing them as you always have. I've bought the Revo Premier, SX, STX, and S in the past and they do not hold a candle to old Swedish made Abu. I've gone back to my old Abu's. Between ebay, Dad's, Mike's and Abu you are not likely to run out of UltraMag parts any time soon.

  22. It's all about me and not the fish, I fish the way I want to as my goal is enjoyment. Over the last week or so I've had nothing on my bass rod but a topwater lure, haven't even untied it. I know it's just a matter of time until I catch a really nice fish, I don't get overly obsessed. When I do want better fish I go to better water, there is a limit to what I can catch in a bass pond, there is no limit in the ocean.

  25. To improve your fishing success, spend as much as possible on your rod and just a little more on a reel. $120 +/- will get a Citica, Revo S, PQ, Lews, Pflueger... All good quality reels that are user friendly but not quickly outgrown as your casting ability grows. $150 will get a St Croix Rage or an Avid on sale or second hand. The high modulus and thus lighter weight of these will take your presentation and strike detection to a new level.

  26. Fluorocarbon is a good line choice. As for rod there are plenty in that range. Fish ranger has Powell's on sale for $109. Normally 169. *** black is around $100-120. The speed spool is ok and so is the mg. Personally I'd step up to the tournament speed spool. Better then both you mentioned. That with either of those 2 rods would be a great combo.

  28. In the water ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seriously though, a genetic fluke, could pop up anywhere. Case in point, the MA state record is over 15lbs !!! The second biggest bass ever caught from MA, was slightly over 11, and that state record, had held for decades, before that total genetic fluke of a bass came along, and destroyed it. So if MA could jump from an 11, to a 15, then Texas could jump from an 18 to a WR, LA, could jump from a 17 to a WR, etc, etc. All of this said, the odds say, So Cal, or Japan (and not anywhere in Japan... just maybe 1 or 2 lakes) Fish

  30. Andy, I was throwing them on 12# Transition fluorocarbon. The ones most out of tune were the smaller ones. Another thing I noticed as I rooted through the "big bag" at home, is that the newer ones I bought have a slightly different shaped head. The old ones I've had for years, have a completely flat top to the head. These newer ones have a concave surface on top of the head. I'm no aerodynamic engineer, but am wondering if this has something to do with their errant running. As far as the paint chipping off, it's true for me too. I figure though, If I'm not banging the baits off rocks and wood and ripping them clear of weeds I'm not fishing them effectively........................If I feel better through next week, I hope to get my boat up to Erie. My grandson is chomping at the bit to go.

  31. It really is a shame that Florida the home of Florida strain LMB that grow to giant size doesn't have the natural ecosystems to take full potential of these magnificent bass. What Florida could do is escavate some deep spring fed lakes and manage them for giant bass growth, catch and release only, well stocked with golden shiners and smaller sources of prey for the baby bass to get a good start. All Califironia did was transplant pure Florida strain bass into a few deep structured lakes and kept them closed to give the bass a good start, the rest is history. I remember talking to Doug Hannon years ago and he was surprised that California's FLMB lived to be 15 years old, in Florida the same bass rarely lives beyond 10 years. The answer was obvious; cooler deep water. What limits the FLMB range is cold water during the winter, they can't survive water under 45 degrees. When you consider the late Doug Hannon caught over 600 DD bass, only 1 was 17 lbs, his PB. I have caught 5 bass over 17 lbs, not because I am a better angler, it's becuase of where I fish...California. You can't catch a giant bass if it doesn't live where you fish. Tom

  37. If you are really chasing the record then you better get a camera. Florida doesn't have a snowball's chance of the record. Too warm, too shallow.

  38. When I was checking out the free spool I noticed that it did not a have long sustained spin. My PQ spun longer fresh out of the box then the Chronarch did. Compairing a NITB reel against a reel that has been fished is just stupid! Hell the reel hasn't even been setup to cast. As stated sustained rotation doesn't mean much, IMPO especially in the tackle shop... Tight Lines All!

  39. The free spin of the spool isn't the best measure of a reels casting distance. Not until you actually get the reel out and actually cast it, can one tell what its capabilities are. If that is what is putting you on the fence I would just move past it. The chronarch series of reels are good reels and excellent casters. It would be a nice upgrade to the older reels you own.

  41. Wow! Thank you guys so much for all the great tips!!! I have some reading and some videos to watch. At least it sounds like I'm on the right track with the senko. In the videos by "Cooch" that I watched, he talks about he great the senko's are to use around here. Good news it's not what I'm using. So now I just have to learn to use them correctly. It very well could be that I'm not setting the hook right. I will try and stronger sweeping motion to try and hook 'em. Thanks again all!

  42. What kind of line are you using? If your using a really whippy rod, and strechy line like mono, you might not be getting the hooks into them, especially on the end of a long cast.

  45. A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.” The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, “Which do you want, son?” The boy takes the quarters and leaves. “What did I tell you?” said the barber. “That kid never learns!” Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. “Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?” The boy licked his cone and replied, “Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!”

  46. My opinion based on years of observation has led me to believe that it's rare for a bass to strike again after they made contact with the lure once. Hooks on crankbaits and all lures should be checked for sharpness. I have a KVD 1.5 and haven't had a problem with losing fish. But if you fish crankbaits, you'll lose fish, it goes with the territory. However, I wouldn't draw conclusions based on losing two fish on one outing. Everyone loses fish including the best pros in the world. Over the years I've had streaks where I'd lose the majority of fish I hooked over a given stretch of time and other streaks where I landed just about everything that struck and never was able to explain either phenomenon.
    1 point
  47. When I lose a fish I come down with a bad case of profane torrets, or throw a senko in on another pole where it missed, or both.
