  3. Okay CPBassFishing. I'm feeling generous tonight. If it is okay with your parents send me your address over in a PM and I'll send you some lures and some new mono to put on his reel. Set him up texas rig on worms and lizards and such. That should keep him busy.

  4. A few years ago when they first came out, you could have swore god made them himself, just by reading reviews from all the internet experts. And for about a year after all these instant "experts" were flailing about the lake with them, ready to go pro at any minute, and fishing was so easy for them I heard guys would just walk up and hand them their entry fee money rather than go through the pain and embarrassment of trying to compete against Carrot Stix ninjas. Today that bandwagon is pretty empty. But never fear, every year they seem to glom on to a new "wonder rod" and beat us senseless with post after post after post...........after post..of how great THAT rod is, and how everything you own sucks. All the while guys fishing plain, old, boring rods like St Croix's, G Loomis, Fenwick, Shimano, etc.....(you know, companies that are stealing your money by charging for things like.........gasp......a real warranty, and have a reputation built on years of making quality products) keep on fishing and catching fish on what are obviously junk rods.

  7. Why keep fishing in the Dead Sea? Lots of water sucks, especially unmanaged public ponds. Some were never stocked, others have been poisoned and many dry up during droughts. We have hundreds of ponds in the Memphis Metropolitan Area, I fish three. Go to the lakes you mentioned where you know there are fish.

  8. I did the same thing in the academy, twice. When I got tazed I got hit with one probe and the other misses over my shoulder. So I got 5 seconds of bad burning/shocking on the back of my shoulder blade then I got drive stunned in the back of my thigh for 5 seconds to get the full ride. I have the video of that and of me getting sprayed on a DVD.

  9. My 2 cents is this......if you think catching a fish is fun. Wait till your buddy catches one with your help. It is one of the best feelings you'll have. Helping someone who has less experience will actually make you a better fisherman. You'll pick up on things he may be doing that isn't right, but if you pay attention and help him correct it, you'll realize that your own skills will improve. Have fun, get him set up with some Texas or Carolina rigs. It will make it easy for him. Good luck and have fun.

  10. Next time you go to your local tackle shop, take him with you, tell him to bring like $30 and you will help him pick out some new line, hooks, and some baits. I bet he would like that and could use the experience of being in a tackle shop with you helping explaning what all the different baits do..

  14. 5am Sunday, 04/07/2013, I will be loading up my new boat with all my fishing gear and heading to Lake Konawa, Oklahoma. Currently the fishing reports are saying that the LMB are Excellent and all other bass are good. So we shall put this report to the test. I should be on the water by 7:30am, I will try and give a detailed report of my outing. Although, I am a terrible writer.

  15. While we are at it, ban scents, salt and dipping dyes. Not. It's just a technique like any other. It doesn't always work and when it does, anyone can use it. I'm not a good jig fisherman, so lets ban jigs because at times jig fishermen are going to beat me. I think the naysayers should quit whining and just go fishing.

  16. If they weren't breaking any size or creel regulations, what you did was uncalled for and could have been dangerous. If they are not breaking rules, they have every right to keep their catch.

  17. I can abide it until they ask me for my catch. "Oh man, you're not gonna keep it?" "Nope, it's called "catch and release" you may have heard about it."

  18. I did something one time a bit mean in hindsite, but I felt it was justified. A foreign couple were at a pond I fish hauling bluegill into a bucket. They had 5 already and I felt that was enough, so I gave them a "tip." I bent the hook behind the barb 90 degrees and told them they would hook more. LOL

  23. If you were a carpenter, would you ban your circular saw, just because in certain situations it works better than a cross cut hand saw? If you were a mechanic, would you ban air tools because in many situations then work better and are faster than standard wrenches? An A-rig is just a tool that both competitive and non-competitive fisherman can use to catch fish from time to time. From time to time it works better than other tools. (which after all, is the nature of tools, there isn't any single all purpose tool) I think that banning A-rigs is foolish, reactionary and short sighted. JMO

  24. I think the local was trying to persuade you into not eating the bass. By and large, bass fisherman release what they catch. Which is why bass are plentiful and don't need regular stocking. I'm sure most of the people who post here release most if not all of their bass. If I could make a suggestion, if you want a meal for the family, try fishing for crappies or bluegill, they taste better than bass.

  27. I guess i am in with most of them... Dont stop. Keep trying different things. If you catch anything at all, good chance there is bigger. Very unlikely to catch the biggest one in a pond. Full moon, night time , midnight to 5 am. I have heard the term the 1 am bite several times. Good chance you will not see me out there at 1 am though. 5 am yes, but not 1. i need my beauty sleep

  28. Ok!! Good to know! Alot of officers here agree that being tazed is AWFUL and it hurts really bad but would rather be tazed than sprayed, because the pain in tazer only last for five seconds or until its over, but peper spray hurts and lingers for an hour or so and then shows up again when you shower. Good to know that the THIN BLUE LINE is strong on BR

  30. They grunt when they're alarmed by rubbing the base of their pectoral fins against the bone to produce the "grunting". It's neat with a little one, in the dark with a 40 pounder it almost sounds like growling.

  31. A few years ago I bought one of Carrot Stix heavy flipping sticks. I sent in the warranty card and went fishing. On the second fish the rod broke on the hookset twelve inches above the handle on the fattest part of the rod. I called the costumer service number and the guy on the other end told be that because they had not received the card that they could not honor the warranty. I waited two weeks and called back again and was told that they never got the card and they would not honor the warranty. That dang rod now sits in the corner of my garage as a reminder to never buy one again.

  32. I have fished about a hundred lakes over the last 10 years and there is one, the closest one to my house, that I have not caught a fish out of. I have lots of choices but I keep going back to this one every few months just out of pride. I will catch a fish out of it. Keep fishing yours until you catch at least one. Then you can "choose" to never fish it again.

  33. If its highly pressured, find out what the local tackle shops and department store fishing sections carry and then make sure your throwing something completely different. Fish can get used to seeing the same lures day in/day out.

  34. I wouldn't give up on it ever until I caught Hawgzilla that is probably living there. Public park ponds usually get pounded to crap by every Tom, Dick, and Harry in town, so you are going to have to be patient, possibly trying things you haven't yet, but most importantly... never give up!!

  35. Take a rod out of the racks at Walmart and try to avoid banging it against the other rods in the rack. It can be done, but most people who shop in Walmart aren't going to be too careful about that. I would hesitate to purchase any graphite rod that had scuffs on it. If the rod is scuffed, it's not terribly unlikely that the rod has worse damage under the skin. Here's an excerpt from a very good (and lengthy) article: The full article can be read here: Gary Loomis talks about rod breakage

  36. I e-mailed Carrot Stix and they don't have a website anymore, just a facebook. They wanted me to send the rod back on my dime (to Canada at that), plus pay 39.95 "shipping and handling fee" using my credit card through E-MAIL. I bought the rod brand new and registered the warranty when I bought it, I still even have the original receipt, and it broke just a few months later. I'd have way too much money invested in a rod that will probably just break again. If you look at their facebook it's mostly people asking how to get a rod warrantied. Lesson learned, no more Carrot Stix for me.

  37. I assume you are talking about Wilson's Cove (across lake from Marina). It is an old rock crusher left from when the lake was a rock quarry. Looks kinda crazy on the graph due to it being a machine.

  39. Hey this is really nice write up JT! I'm honored you chose to include us in your article, and said such great things. It's really humbling to see our name in print. One quick note - you can directly access your content by clicking your name on the menu bar in the upper right, near the search box. You'll get a dropdown menu from which you can select many items, one of which is the "My Content" link. It's one less click than mentioned in your article, but I admit it is a little more obscure to find. Thanks again for the kind words. I'm absolutely floored you wrote about us! Glenn

I told Mike what I needed the jig to do and he gave me his recommendations. Here's a jig head he sent that I made a switchblade with: Already a proven winner thanks to Mike.
