  3. As some of you may or may not know, my mother has been fighting stage 4 breast cancer since July 17th 2012. It's been 10 long, hard, scary months full of surgery, chemo, radiation, and all sorts of hardships I wish upon no one. Well, here we are, with one week of radiation left, and my mothers blood work, tumor markers, and pet-scan have all come back disease free We're going to have to keep a close eye on her health. One of the medications that she was supposed to be on until September 2013 was discontinued because it was having bad side effects on her heart. However, for now, thanks to the almighty, shes healthy. In celebration of this arduous journey being over, we've rented a log cabin on a private lake connected to the Delaware Water Gap, nestled in the mountains of North West Jersey. We're going to bring the new Tracker along and fish for Striped Bass, Hybrids, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Musky, Catfish, and whatever else will bite! It's not some 5 star resort, or some foriegn country. Heck we're not even leaving the state, but its our vacation, and I've never been more excited or happy to spend time with my family

  4. Be quiet. Very quiet. The smaller the pond, the more caution one needs. I fish a lot of small ponds, some less than a acre, and the fish are very keen as to whats going on. Most of the time when I get to where I'm fishing, I'll wait for 15 or 20 minutes before I make a cast. These small ponds hold a captive audience. They have no where to run, so they get lock jaw until they feel safe again. If you spook them, they won't fall for anything, reguardless of how close you drag it to them, or how enticing the lure looks. You have to use stealth. Good luck and remember, Sssssshhhhhhhhh.......

  7. When fishing ponds, I have almost always had the best results with soft plastics. Worms T-Rigged weightless or wacky would be a good bet.

  9. So i'm sure alot of you have heard of the wacky worm tool, that metal tube you use to slide the O ring onto the worm. These things usually cost about seven to eight bucks, but here's how you can get two for about $1.50 Go to the sewing section at WalMart and buy a pair of aluminum sewing needles in the largest size they have (the right size is 10mm). These cost about $1.50 for a two pack. (the brand I use is "Boye") Then all you need to do is cut one in half, then thread a screw into the pointy end, and your all set! You can purchase O rings at any hardware store for about a buck. Hope this helps you guys save a couple bucks... Lemme know what y'all think !

  10. 5am Sunday, 04/07/2013, I will be loading up my new boat with all my fishing gear and heading to Lake Konawa, Oklahoma. Currently the fishing reports are saying that the LMB are Excellent and all other bass are good. So we shall put this report to the test. I should be on the water by 7:30am, I will try and give a detailed report of my outing. Although, I am a terrible writer.

  11. There us another tourney out here on Douglas lake, and Ott Defoe was having a scavenger hunt for a Fenwick Aetos rod so me and the woman took a ride over to the docks. The rod had already been found but Rick Clunn was out there and got to meet him. Super nice guy but you could tell he was tired from being out on the water all day. Not every day you meet a fishing legend.

  16. T- rigged plastics are the ticket for me. If the pond has cover, concentrate on the cover. I haven't caught too many bass in open water at the ponds I fish. There's some sort of cover that they are relating to. Also, look for bends in the bank. I've found that a bend in the bank is like a flat, and that the bass come there to feed. I've caught alot of fish along a bend in the bank.

  23. Went fishing, looked down and saw this, immediately started laughing. I was able to separate them and the one being swallowed swam off..... I was able to revive the ambitious bass after a few attempts, they both almost died. I did catch a dink

  27. Happened to me last weekend too. I started fishing with a jig and caught two shorts real quick when she came down to the pond and needed me to tie a swivel on for her. She the proceeded to catch two shorts and one keeper in about 20 minutes on a rooster tail. I did manage to hook a 3-4lber later that I wasn't able to get to the bank, so it didn't count. Oh well, can't win them all.

  30. There is a whole new senko-less world waiting for you, (especially fishing a jig). I found bass fishing more challenging, rewarding and even more enjoyable, when I put my senkos away and started being more diverse.

  31. I hear ya Rob. I'll be donating as well. I am a sponsor for the KOTG, though...it's what I do! Should be a fun tourney. Fishing is really good there right now....there will be some big bags coming in.

  33. The beds themselves will be there forever barring any change in the bottom. The bluegills may or may not use the beds once the bass are done and the bass may or may not return next year. They tend to spawn in the same areas because of the correct bottom composition. A trick for you so you won't spook the fish. If you're able to reach, take a stick and stick it in the water to mark the bed. Walk away. Give the bass 5 minutes to get back to the bed. Stand far enough away so the bass doesn't see you but close enough to see the bed and cast to it.

  34. You do not pay her insurance company - make the company you pay your hard earned money to, do their job. Get any and all money from your own company and let your insurance company deal with all the administrative matters. I will not ever speak to any other company other than the one I pay and I refer all matters to them. That's their job. Otherwise, what are you paying them for ? ? ? ? ? Time is money and you spent yours so that if and when this happened, you have already paid for someone else to deal with this in advance. A-Jay

  35. I tried it and didn't care for it. It was cheap and impossible to break but I didn't find it very sensitive and it had a lot of memory even after being treated with KVD line & lure. I used the remaining bit to snell small hooks for fishing off piers at the outer banks but won't buy another spool. I'll stick with 100% FC or mono.

  39. Sure, if you're fishing relatively shallow, in moderate to heavy cover, it works great. But if you're fishing deep, open structure it's much simpler to open the bail and let the bait plummet. Spinning reels handle light line better as well.

  40. I don't think it's cheating at all, it's just about having a good time. I fish my community ponds, they have never been stocked and I'm about the only one that fishes them, little pressure if any. I use pretty much the same lures all the time, they hit them like they are seeing them for the first time, I question this thing about fish being smart, they react to instinct, they don't reason and think things thru. I have pics of the same bass or caught 2 days in row. Some days the fishing is good other days it isn't, the fish have no where to go, they are here. I grew up fishing Lake St Clair in Mich, probably not the hardest place to catch fish of a variety species, any time a person can catch 20-30 or 50 fish in an outing, I can't see that as challenging, but it's a lot of fun. Challenging is targeting one species(or trophy size fish) and hoping to get a fish once a day, or once a week and sometimes not one in a month. In most cases you're as good as the body of water you are fishing on.

  41. Who gives a crap? I fish for fun, and if I can get access to a lake that will increase my fun, I'm all in even if I need to pay some for it. You can make the same argument across the board. Budget tackle vs high end tackle. Jon boat vs $50k tourney rig. Fishing with a guide vs. fishing on your own. In my opinion, anyone who makes a big stink about someone else catching fish out of a private pond is a jealous blowhard.

  42. This is a good point to talk about. Maybe they do seem dumber in a farm pond or lake but it's simply a bass being a bass in an environment that allows them to be that, a fish that isn't conditioned to factors that aren't natural...boats, jet skis, constant pounding and pressure...etc. So while it may be a bigger "deal" to catch a big, trophy bass on a big reservoir with tons of anglers and pressure, that doesn't necessarily make you a big, bad angler....just lucky to be in the right place at the right time if we're talking about a 7 plus pound bass......it's just easier to be there at the right time and place on farm ponds and lakes. I've seen many a day when the farm pond wouldn't produce fish either so it's not always a cake walk... Long story short, if you have pics of a 10 pound bass that you caught on a farm pond and your buddy who fishes tournaments and owns a $60,000 rig doesn't.....well, you still have the biggest fish I love fishing big lakes and farm ponds and I'm proud of all of my big fish so be proud of yours no matter where it comes from.....fishing is fun!

  43. fishing farm ponds isnt always easy as people seem to think. i would agree a larger public lake or river is probably more challenging. but that doesnt automatically make ponds easy. ive been skunked on lakes, ive been skunked at ponds. ponds dont equal a guaranteed catch...

  44. I fish a private lake several times a month, and most days it is just as hard as anywhere else. You still have to find the fish. Just because it is a private pond doesn't mean there's a golden platter where you just grab your limit of lunkers and go on home... I just don't understand why folks would say don't brag about what you catch at a private pond. What a load of crapola. If I catch a twelve pound bass in a lake, river, farm pond, private pond or out of the tank at BPS itself, I'm happy as heck I caught it, somebody's gonna hear about it. My avatar will show a pic of it and it beats any bass that weighs less than it no matter where it's caught... Anyone saying otherwise is just one of those 'sour grapes' type of person.

  45. I am fortunate enough to have in-laws with a house on a private lake and always enjoy fishing there. I don't think anyone here would decline a chance to fish a low-pressured hole.
    1 point
  46. Exactly as stated above. You still have to hook them, you still have to fight them in AND land them. Feel fine in letting everybody know what you caught, as long as you don't say it came from so and so lake that is public waters.
    1 point
  47. They don't hook themselves for you do they? Sure the fish aren't as pressured and much dumber than they are in public waters but they're still fun to catch.
