  1. I am grinning ear to ear about my seven year old son. See today he joined the ranks and caught his first bass in his own. He tangled his line and I tossed out my bait already. I told him to work the senko back slowly on my rod as I deranged his line. Next thing I hear him say. I felt a fish!!! The fish is on. I told him to bring it in. The fish jumped once and he was able to control it all the way back to the shore. He was grinning ear to ear. He was so proud. Such a great day!!!

  2. The plastic Clams help me to provide you with my very best effort, best bait, best final bait action and best possible bite results. I've never been satisfied with less than my best effort... nor do I expect others to accept any less, from me All of our RT products are designed, produced, individually hand assembled and packaged here in the USA. Now if you want to remove them from the Clamshell and put them in a bag... It's OK, I forgive you Actually with certain styles or designs like the craw etc, if I know that I will use several in a very short period of time, I'll put them in my pocket loose because the deformation doesn't occur that fast. Now at the end of the day, back in the clam they go! With the Eeliminators, Shad and Toad... They stay in the clamshell until they go on the hook, because they're design and action results are extremely dependant on the precise Shape and hooking procedures required. Can you tell that I'm a picky ole rascal

  5. Not trying to be a wise guy or anything but you can also just wet your hand and grab it instead of spending money. It's not some kind of poisonous monster fish. Thousands of angler grab em behind the head and throw em back every weekend. If you're set on it the fish grips are a good product. I use them a lot in saltwater. A rubberized net is a must have from the boat but if you're bank fishing that's a pain.

  7. I'm sorry guy's, my posts have been missing the mark here lately and in some cases missing entirely, I still have an up hill battle of my own to work on but in time I will get back to doing more research and hopefully give more accurate reports with some results from new baits and the local fishing holes around Va. Who knows I may even be able to offer someone some good advise and they catch a big fish or two, I look forward to that, right now the future looks a little rough and rocky and you may still find me missing from time to time so bare with me please. It's nice to know I am thought of though guy's and it gives me hope and strength and a lot to look forward too.

  9. Does anyone know if the plastic tray that the baits sit in serves any purpose or can it be removed? If it can be removed you could combine several packs into one.

  10. Yea, that split second of hesitation is important. The minute I lose site of the frog and see my line getting tight I set the hook hard, usually up instead of to the side. I noticed I almost always rip the frog of snakeheads mouth if i set it sideways, maybe because they have flatter mouths than bass? But everyone loses fish now and then regardless of what you do, its all about practice!

  11. Frustrated with the cooler weather? I'm sure its not as cool here in NE Florida as in Mass., tugsandpulls, but upper 30's for the lows. Today's catch from a local southside pond at 1:30 pm on a 1/8 oz. weighted green Zoom lizard: 6 pounds on the Boga Grip, 22 1/4 inches. Released as always...

  12. If vegetation is not bad then a round or teardrop shaped weight will work well. The cylinder shaped weights are useful for fishing rocks, heavy grass, tules, etc., but not as useful for fishing open water as they don't maintain contact with bottom as well. Usually I will work a round weight anywhere that I can get away with it. I will opt for a teardrop weight if fishing brush, and a cylinder weight if fishing rocky bottoms (especially in heavy current, e.g. river smallmouth in riffles.) The money invested in buying the right weight for the right application will save you $$ in the end because you will lose much less gear in the long run.

  13. Going to be doing MUCH more flipping with jigs this year and flipping more creatures with weights. I also just bought a Z-Man Chatter bait after hearing all this "buzz" about them. Excited to throw that. Other than that... same ole same ole. I tend to do pretty well each year. Over all I am trying to do a bit more technique specific fishing from here on out.

  14. Look up the name Doug Vahrenberg. He is a Humminbird pro staffer. He has lots of instuctional videos on his web site. He explains the settings for all functions. Really has some good ones about Switchfire.

  17. I have been trying out the new Seaguar Senshi line and I am very impressed with it so far. Very little if any memory and appears to be a very durable line as well. Have it on a spinning reel and a bait caster in 8lbs and 10lbs test.

  18. Rage Tail Lizard is probably my personal favorite, but a very close second, and probably the best C-rig bait in the world, is the Eeliminator.

  19. Zoom speed and super speed crawls. (Traditional craw bait, good vibrations) Rage Shrimp (a bit more subtle, FLOATS and super durable) Sebile Magic Swimmers. (Big bait but subtle, great when smallies are crashing bait balls) Arkie French Fry (subtle and not very large) Smoking Rooster (bigger and obnoxious vibration) . These 5 cover everything you'll ever need when rigging.

  22. Ding ding, there's a winner folks! Shimano and Daiwa both still hold the same business that they always have, possibly better than it has been in the past. There is zero doubt that the components that both these companies use in their reels are better than what Pure Fishing and others use. It's undeniable because of the grade of the bearings and the quality of component manufacture. Take the out, look at the race, the shields, any of the gearing a polished brass gear is undeniably smoother and stronger than its die cast aluminum counterpart. Frames that are molded of lesser quality metals are vastly different than their cast and machined counterparts. We've cut many frames apart for inspection and only two companies had zero inclusion or voids in 12 frame cuts per reel on 15 reels. Shimano and Daiwa were the two. The new Revo is supposed to be on par with that, but we've not tested them yet. The gen 1 and gen 2 both tended to have a void on. The off side behind the level wind mount point. But I digress... In most cases the reels today are built light years ahead of those built just ten years ago.

  23. River fishing is a whole different animal. Rivers are in a constant state of change. Fish can still be predictable, it just takes a different mindset.

  24. Oh boy. I know people who have tried it. We had one guy here used to smear Preparation H on his lures because it too contains fish oil. The thing is there is nothing miraculous out there. In the end it is 99% you. I am going to be 74 yrs old in a few days and have been fishing before some if you were born. I have seen many many changes over the years. I really think now days all this talk about special rod ,reel, this that and the other thing is far more marketing than the value of the stuff is to fishing. I learned to cast with a 51/2 ft steel rod. Only instructions I got were" keep backing off the anti backlash until you no longer need one". It's getting harder but I still do it even today I do not have a reel with any backlash control. I believe fishing can be a lot simpler and less costly than what I have seen here. I know a couple people who could put a hook on your false teeth if you had any and catch a fish bass on it. And it might not take them to long either.

  29. I have some old packages without the tray and have had no issues with the craws becoming deformed, but that is why Big O designed that packaging, to keep them perfectly formed.
    1 point
  30. Without that tray the claws will get bent and will not produce the best action.

  31. Rage lizard. I only c rig when I feel I have to. But when I do, the rage lizard is the only plastic I have ever had success with. As far as action, the lizard might be the best in the lineup IMO.

  32. I have witnessed many people get a backlash with all the brakes engaged. If you have the tension knob set loose enough it makes no difference how many centrifical brakes you have set.

  33. Keep the tray. It's designed to keep the claws intact.

  36. I see more 20 year old Curado Bs in average fisherman's and actual pro's boats more than I see Abu round reels. It's OK that you like them. I like them too. Nothing more fun than taking an old 2500c and turning into a screamer. They're unique, and cool in the way a Morgan sports car is with it's wooden frame.

  37. OK, you lunatic, I'll do it next year. I'll get up, go outside, and write my name in the snow. I'll know if it's gonna be a good year if I can write my entire name. Anything less will mean buckle up suckers, it's gonna be a bad day.

  38. I'm getting ansy, too. Here's my biggest from this year so far. 11.5lbs on a jig/Lobster. It's gonna be a good year, boys! PS- my PB from NH is 9lbs,1oz, caught last year early spring.

  39. Sometimes you will do better if you can hook up with someone from the area or lake you want to fish. Offer to pay their expenses for the day. It can be more rewarding, less expensive & you might make a new friend/fishing partner. That is the inherent beauty of this site. Lots of opportunity to meet other sticks of the same or better experience. Thank you Glenn.

  40. This is rediculous really. Rojas did not own that water, Alton Jones was there throughout the tournament. Rojas needs to take off his skirt, put on some fishing pants, and go fishing.

  42. I've seen this quite a few times. What's wrong with this fish is that it lacks a good breading and deep fry. If you have a fillet knife please operate as soon as possible.

  43. So you can now claim a mile long stretch of river as yours for an entire 4 days? Thats news to me, I thought it was whoever got there first every day. If he spilled the beans as to where he was catching fish, shame on him. Loose lips sink ships.

  44. Ike didn't leave Diawa, they fired him. Abu was only company that would pick him up. His antics and poor sportsmanship on air is probably a major contributing factor. Though he is a nice guy and a great instructor.

  45. I've been a member of this forum for 7 or 8 years. I read a lot but don't post that much. One of the reasons I'm still a member is that I have never seen anyone be intentionally disrespectful on this forum. Everyone tries to be helpful to anyone with a question and is welcoming to new members or beginner fishermen. As far as the term "newbie" is concerned, I have mostly seen it used by people referring to themselves. To Glen and Mods; you continue to have an informative, mannerly, and well considered forum. Thank you for your hard work.

  49. I gave the sick fish a try and they were great! Good fish catchers, good price, and good action. The only thing is the plastic is not too durable but it's semi-durable. Also if you want a faster action or have the bait keep the good action at a faster speed clip the little thing coming out the boottail!
