  1. Pegboard is your friend... In addition to the pegboard on the fishing workbench, I have three drawers under the bench for fishing stuff. Rod & reel combos stored vertically in rod racks. Couple cardboard boxes under the bench with some extra stuff.

  2. Father O'Malley answers the phone. 'Hello, is this Father O'Malley?' 'It is!' 'This is the IRS. Can you help us?' 'I can! 'Do you know a Ted Houlihan?' 'I do!' 'Is he a member of your congregation?' 'He is!' 'Did he donate $10,000 to the church?' 'He will.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lemon Squeeze There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession. Upon entering the confessional, she said, 'Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.' The priest said, 'Confess your sins and be forgiven.' The young woman said, 'Last night my boyfriend made mad passionate love to me seven times.' The priest thought long and hard and then said, 'Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and then drink the juice.' The young woman asked, 'Will this cleanse me of my sins?' The priest said, 'No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Confession An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation ensues: Man: 'I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls, hitch-hiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each of them three times.' Priest: 'Are you sorry for your sins?' Man: 'What sins?' Priest: 'What kind of a Catholic are you?' Man: 'I'm Jewish.' Priest: 'Why are you telling me all this?' Man: 'I'm 92 years old .... I'm telling everybody!' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rubbed the Wrong Way A married Irishman went into the confessional and said to his priest, 'I almost had an affair with another woman.' The priest said, 'What do you mean, almost?' The Irishman said, 'Well, we got undressed and rubbed together, but then I stopped.' The priest said, 'Rubbing together is the same as putting it in. You're not to see that woman again. For your penance, say five Hail Mary's and put $50 in the poor box.' The Irishman left the confessional, said his prayers, and then walked over to the poor box. He paused for a moment and then started to leave. The priest, who was watching, quickly ran over to him saying, 'I saw that. You didn't put any money in the poor box!' The Irishman replied, 'Yeah, but I rubbed the $50 on the box, and according to you, that's the same as putting it in!' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brothel Trip An elderly man goes into a brothel and tells the madam he would like a young girl for the night. Surprised, she looks at the ancient man and asks how old he is. 'I'm 90 years old,' he says. '90?' replies the woman. 'Don't you realize you've had it?' 'Oh, sorry,' says the old man. 'How much do I owe you?' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Senility An elderly man went to his doctor and said, 'Doc, I think I'm getting senile. Several times lately, I have forgotten to zip up.' 'That's not senility,' replied the doctor. 'Senility is when you forget to zip down.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pest Control A woman was having a passionate affair with an Irish inspector from a pest-control company.. One afternoon they were carrying on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly. 'Quick,' said the woman to the lover, 'into the closet!' and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked. The husband, however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet. 'Who are you?' he asked him. 'I'm an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone,' said the exterminator. 'What are you doing in there?' the husband asked. 'I'm investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths,' the man replied. 'And where are your clothes?' asked the husband. The man looked down at himself and said, 'Those little scoundrels! You've been reading our marriage certificate for an hour.' Husband: 'I was looking for the expiration date.' ------------------------------- Wife : 'Do you want dinner?' Husband: 'Sure! What are my choices?' Wife: 'Yes or no.' -------------------------------------------------------- Stress Reliever Girl: 'When we get married, I want to share all your worries, troubles and lighten your burden.' Boy: 'It's very kind of you, darling, but I don't have any worries or troubles.' Girl: 'Well that's because we aren't married yet.' ------------------------------ Son: 'Mum, when I was on the bus with Dad this morning, he told me to give up my seat to a lady.' Mom: 'Well, you have done the right thing.' Son: 'But mum, I was sitting on daddy's lap.' ________________________________ A newly married man asked his wife, 'Would you have married me if my father hadn't left me a fortune?' 'Honey,' the woman replied sweetly, 'I'd have married you, NO MATTER WHO LEFT YOU A FORTUNE!' ------------------------------------------------------------ A wife asked her husband: 'What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?' He looked at her from head to toe and replied: 'I like your sense of humor!' Husbands are husbands A man was sitting reading his papers when his wife hit him round the head with a frying pan. 'What was that for?' the man asked. The wife replied , 'That was for the piece of paper with the name Jenny on it that I found in your pants pocket'. The man then said 'When I was at the races last week , Jenny was the name of the horse I bet on.' The wife apologized and went on with the housework. Three days later the man is watching TV when his wife bashes him on the head with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him unconscious. Upon re-gaining consciousness the man asked why she had hit again. Wife replied. 'Your horse phoned'

  5. I don't buy reels based on my budget, I can buy pretty much whatever I want. The smallest fish I target are LMB, not one of the more formidable fish to land. I've been using 3 supremes for the last several years, each reel is like the day I took them out of the box, not that I'm recommending any brand but I don't feel freshwater fishing demands the quality of a more expensive reel. I have many spinning reels priced well over $100 and there is a place for them. Salt air, saltwater, sand and considerably larger and harder fighting fish can play havoc on your gear. That said, 2 of my favorite sw reels are sub $100, a medalist and an arbor, both used for barracuda which is one tough hombre, reels are as good as the day I bought them, very smooth and they another site. Of the 4 S brands that I own, 2 have gone down several times and IMO very over rated and overpriced, probably not buy one again. I'm stating to think so many better options out there now.

  6. A-Jay will probably shun me for life for this comment, but I rather enjoy watching flipping and pitching. Then again, I primarily river fish in Louisiana, so pitching docks and tossing frogs are really staples for me in any given part of the year. Overall, I think Denny is a classy kind of guy. He never has anything bad to say about anyone, and he is flat out fun to watch. I particularly appreciated his modesty during the finals as well as his comments day one about Ike slamming fish.

  8. Basses sense of smell, detecting odors in the water to locate prey is a very small factor. Catfish on the other hand have a phenomenal sense of smell and rely primarily in detecting prey by odors. Bass attractants are really masking odors that may repel or alarm the bass at the last second befor striking. You want to create a positive odor and taste and texture. The bottom line; you can easily over due attractants by creating a negative response from the bass. No scent is better than too many different scents. Bass see and hear/feel you soft plastic from a distance and when they get within a foot or so they focus on details, this is the moment a strike commitment occurs, odors are only a factor when the strike has occurred or very close to occurring. 9. Went 4 for 6 on my 1 hour fishing break between naps, at my age ya need em and I wasn't even using a Shimano, lol. Nice fish but I didn't take a measurement, had a hard enough time with a smartphone. I either have to grow longer arms or hire a full time photographer to follow me around.

  12. I was sure wondering about mixing and adding some jjs to the tips. but i can say that megastrike works great on powerbait chigger craws. I found that out the last two trips out dragging a football jig with a chigger craw trailer. I just didnt know if there were some plastics that were pre scented that it conflict with... but it did work well with those stinky chigger craws on my jig

  13. Actually, Chautauqua does have it all (docks, shallow and deep weed edges, drop offs, rock points, etc. along with nice Smallmouth and Largemouth), but because of the algy bloom, that limited these guys. I would have loved to have seen this tournament held on Chautauqua in July when all those other patterns could have come into play. Overall, I was really pleased with it and even though the ending was very anticlimactic, I was very satisfied with the results.

  14. It was actually introduced by the Apostles 2000 years ago-thats how they caught so many fish.. I DONT THINK SO- But I did see it-Do i think it will 'revolutionize fishing??/" I am a scientific angler-the answer is no. It is a boost to the crank bait market-Lots of hype out there. Does it have some unique fish attracting /triggering qualities-YES It is unique in how the bill displaces water and causes the bait to move- Simple -ok not that simple but not "rocket science" theories of water displacement. Ok lets think of how many times you guys threw crankbaits this year. The crank bait technique has been a dieing art/ or declining technique for years. It peaked when David Fritts-was throwing the old POES lures twenty years ago. Used to be called "THE FRITZ BLITZ" The soft plastic trend has been on the rise ever since. Its supposed to be released at the "Classic" - Cmon -everyone is going to throw it or say they threw it-Its "the Classic Winner" Just hype to promote product.- I understand that- Good for them. Can it be trown in weeds where most bass are caught-nope -didnt see to much weedlessness there. Will it get snagged and hung up like every other crank bait out there-YUP- What it will do and have is its own application under certain conditions. Just like every other bait- I do give it Kudos for the action it produces. I have not seen a bass caught on it nor have I caught one- Bottom line is -use them and decide for yourself. If you think its helping you catch more fish and giving you more confidence than any other bait-Than Rapala has done its job

  15. No - It's all good. I like to fish visible man made structure myself - No doubt it produces. I do understand that during the planning phase, there is now way to predict where the fish will be. But If A-Jay was selecting the venue - I'd try to select one that has a variety of conditions throughout the lake, but separated by "zones". Hopefully there would be a better opportunity for the anglers to utilize alternate techniques. You have to admit - it seemed like the anglers themselves were getting tired of flipping the same 50 docks over and over and over and over . . . . . . . . . A-Jay

  16. Hmmm didn't intend any haterism in the post. Actually just commented on the crank bait market decline I g being replaced by the soft plastic industry. As for the swivel spinner bait buzz bait and fish attractant business. Hmmm if you only knew. I actually believe I said kudos to rapala for their design as for getting hung up and snagged. I've been fishing cranks for over forty years and yes I have fished with the fritz blitz himself. Anything with treble hooks has more of a chance of getting hung up. Just more hooks to get snagged on debris. As for that if you learn how to manipulate baits and their retrieves you can bring them trough brush piles and other cover. Same as the comment about the e2 head. Watch and learn danielson I don't have a horse in that race nor did I bash rapala just gave an opinion of what I had seen. I love bass resource. Love to hear the pros and cons of what I write I keep an open mind. The worst thing we can do as anglers and humans is close our minds I don't think I closed my mind on this new bait

  17. CCW is a different issue and one that does not comes into play here for us. There are many reasons why this was our choice, here are some of the more important ones; Hands down the shotgun has the most stopping power. The shotgun creates a spread of shot multiple inches in diameter but generally one shot placed center mass is more than enough to stop an intruder. This model has a short 18 inch barrel, so it's easily maneuverable up close. Shotshells are relatively in expensive for practice rounds, but defense loads is a little more spendy, running a little more than handgun ammo on average, but not by much. Shotguns also rarely, if ever, jam. I respect others who have a different view, but I'm not looking to debate it here. A-Jay

  18. Normally I don't splurge on myself like that Yeah I bought my Revo sx 2 years ago and 2 Revo S's last year all were had for almost half the price of one new. I just got my federal tax return plus a unexpected paycheck from the army for $1783 after I had set aside rent, car payments/insurance, cell phone bill money for 3 months plus paid off my credit card then got that extra $1783 for travel pay and with all iv been dealing with I decided to treat my self since I already stashed money away and caught all my bills up. My boys already catch on at least my oldest Noah he is to smart for his own good hes got a fishing tackle bag just like mine now a matching rod and reel and the boy refuses to use live bait and wants to use lures. He went with me today to zero my 17hmr for a upcoming squirrel hunt asked TONS of questions and has been talking bout it non stop lol

  23. When I've got a pre-scented plastic I tend to leave it be, as PondBoss said. However, I've dipped Yum worms pre-scented with F2 because, to my nose, there wasn't much distinct - grab you - smell to the worms. And I'm also interested in what the scent-makers would say, but just to throw out a thought: ever mix soft drinks at Taco Bell (or wherever). Some mixes taste good, other mixes get poured back into the drain. You know, the Root Beer + Coke + Orange Soda + Grape.... I have tried JJs in conjunction with the Crawfish F2 spray before. Don't remember if I caught anything or not. But it didn't smell the best. (that was to my nose, the fish may not have cared)

  28. I got one recently and I'm impressed. I do however feel that the previous model is much smoother. I think maybe because the 3gen is lighter, it may transfer the geary feel throughout the reel a little easier. over all though it's nice and much lighter than the gen2. as for deep cranking, i don't think there's a better reel on the market and that's a lot considering I'm part of the shimano possee

  30. thanks Dwight, that was actually discussed in my phone call with the mechanic yesterday afternoon. He said that impeller is in working condition however it is starting to look worn and that he would change it. So i told him to go ahead and do it. I am also getting my prop re conditioned while its there.. Its gonna end up costing a good bit overall, but id rather pay it and keepnthe boat running than run the risk of letting little problems become "the search for a new(er) 200hp motor" The boat has been going to the same guy since it was new in 1996 under the first owner, so he knows my boat better than i do. My mechanic actually does care alot and has done alot for near nothing over the years just looking out for his customers. So i trust his judgement.

  31. I didn't feel any "haterism" in the post, just a little sarcastic humor, nothing wrong with that. As far as CB's dying, maybe the CB industry is on a slight downswing while plastics and jigs are on an upswing. Lets not forget that it is all subjective and relative as far as marketing goes. I think since Trokar hooks have exploded, along with shakey head hooks etc., one industry may just be getting more attention than another. However, on the water, most anglers are going to use the lure, or lures that produce for them throughout the day. IMO, I see a lot of articles/posts/shows lately stressing the importance of being a versitile angler and knowing the right combination of gear to use in the right situation. The rod Industry is increasingly introducing entire collections of Tec-Spec rods, I think if anything is revolutionizing, its the sport of fishing in its entirety.
    1 point
  32. Words like "revolutionary" are thrown around too much in the fishing industry. I am a firm believer that everything has it's place under the right conditions. It all boils down to confidence, conditions and cadence. Hell I can take a bottle cap, a paper clip, a treble hook and BB's and make a lure out of it ... AND it will catch fish. ... Revolutionary ... no ... creative, unique maybe ... fun as hell to try like any other lure ... hell Yeah!

  40. Wow, had a great day. I went fishing alone and was on the water at 5:45 this morning. By 9 I had about 8 or 9 bass. All on topwater green torpedo. Saw a guy catch a 4 lb 14 oz bass on a rapala so I shifted to the rapala and caught about 6 bass. Around lunchtime shifted to pumpkin seed lizard and caught about 4 or 5 in an hour. Caught about 4 more on a red eye shad. At about 2:15 caught 2 crappie on my red eye shad. So I shifted to my crappie rig and slayed them. Caught about 50 nice crappie in about 2.5 hours within about 40 feet of each other. So at the end of the day, I would say I caught about 70-80 total fish. It was awesome. Hopefully this front won't turn them off.

  41. Do you have a Walmart locally? Take a look at the Lighting Shock rod from Berkley. Made for super lines, split grip, decent reel seat, and 40 dollars to boot. Also the Shimano Sellus is a good 50 dollar rod. I may end up getting the top water rod next week with a PQ too.

  43. Well, there are NEVER any fish there this time of year. Dead, decomposing vegetation depletes the oxygen in the water. The bottom of the food chain is effectively closed right now in those areas.

  44. So, my interpretive summary of this thread: Use appropriate equipment for the type of fishing you're attempting Properly adjust the drag on your reels before fishing If hooking into a fish in heavy cover, assert control early to get them clear of the dangerous obstructions. In all other situations, use the rod, reel's drag, and patience to steer the fish away from trouble and keep pressure up until it tires (aka "Be Patient")
