  1. It's not just line, but I've cut back on lures and colors as well. In my particular circumstances more options means that I have to make more decisions that I'm not qualified to make.

  3. I dont have any use for the "services" offered there. Im mining for information and other knowledge. My pursuits are purely academic for the time being. That browser is currently set to block images because of some of what you read about. And yes there are some extremely sick perverts in this world. It would make no one more happy then I to round them up and start decorating tree branches with them.

  4. ^^^ Trapper up there can help ya out. He's got a tourny after the Classic. I don't fish Grand until June in my tourny. I could help ya out when you get ready to fish it. Just PM me and I'll help you out the best I can. On another note. I seen a Gene Larew billboard tonight. It said to stop by their booth at the Classic. Shining like a diamond on this cool February night!

  5. I'll post this here since I'm not sure where else it would be appropriate. I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Today I made a fishing rod rack to hold all my combos so I don't have to just pile them in the corner like I have been for years now. Here's the pics. I put rolling casters on it so I could wheel it out away from the wall to get to the rods in the back. It holds 12 combos. I fish with the 6 in the front and the others are loaners and my wife's little rod that she hardly ever uses. I didn't do a lot of fancy joinery. I wanted to but I was in a hurry to get it built so I just opted for simple butt joinery and brad nails and glue to assemble it. I just made it from white pine 1x6's I had laying here. I even had the casters here already so I spent no money on it other than the initial cost of buying the wood which I had done some time ago already. Later on, I will stain it and coat it with Varathane that I also already have here. That stuff is very durable so it will make a nice finish for this. I will also wood fill all the marks made from the brad nailer. I did sand everything to 120 with my ROS. That's good enough for this. Sorry the pics are so large. I've tried resizing them on photobucket but even though their site shows all of then resized, it will only let one show here in the new size.

  6. My neighbor came over yesterday to drop off a thank you gift for helping them during the hurricane. Somehow we got to talking about fishing and she told me her father was a more than avid fisherman. I told her I fish local tourneys & showed her my collection of lures, rods, & reels. When she saw how obsessed I am she revealed a little secret. She said she has tons of tackle that her father left to her, but she refuses to sell it because she believes that it deserves to go to a good home where it will be appreciated & used. She then invited me over to the house & handed me a canvas shopping bag & said take what you like =) I ended up with some real gems. I got a handful of handmade spinnerbaits with triple crescent shaped hammered blades. Some cedar wood rapala, bagley, & handmade crankbaits & jerkbaits. Some jitterbugs that make the ones on the shelves in stores now look like garbage, and possibly my favorite out of all the hard baits was the Zara Spook made from balsa wood, with a glittered texture on the sides that looks like a baitfish losing scales. All of this on top of a ton of custom jigs, both rubber & hair, roostertails, and a lure called a frontrunner that I had never seen before. Add to this bags full of spoons for saltwater and salmon fishing, and hundreds of soft plastics, I could'nt take the smile off of my face as I thanked them again and again! Cant wait for tournament season to roll around again!!!

  8. Found the owner. They lived right across the road from us. Can't believe I'd never seen the dog before. They called the Humane Society and they gave them our number. Glad she's back where she belongs. The people seemed really happy to to get her back. I know my Aussie is glad she's gone. She was only here a couple hours and claimed his food, toys, the couch and me for herself.

  9. If research shows that there has been no major decrease in bass or other native fish I don't see the point of killing them honestly. From what someone posted earlier seems like snakeheads are a regular diet for peacock bass and LMB bass in south Florida. I have only caught 2 since I started bass fishing 6 months ago. Where I caught the 2 snakeheads I caught 10x more bass of all sizes. I think if your not gonna eat them or put them to good use, release them back. They reproduce way to fast for us to even put a dent in their population down here. If you wanna kill them then go ahead but when you start missing that amazing fight no other freshwater fish down here puts up then u might regret it!

  11. I went to the Hanover BPS about a month ago and they had all the Rage Baits. I got a pack of these and the Eeliminators. Can't wait to fish them. It was kind of a pain to find the plastics I wanted to buy though. I feel like it would have been easier if they were organized by brand name rather than type of bait. Like have all the Rage stuff together and all the Zoom stuff together etc.

  12. I would say your ideology is correct. Spend less on moving bait/jerkbait/topwater rods and spend as much as you can on bottom contact rods where ever bit of sensitivity aids to the presentation and performance.

  15. I live by the alberto knot, but i have flirted with that idea, but i like long leaders (5ft) and i do not want a swivel coming through my guides when i cast. And even if you keep it outside the top guide it will be like chucking a carolina rig. With all that extra hanging over, its hard to be accurate casting. I like to be pin point with shakey heads. So i have decided against it. I always count knots as liabilities. I always try to get by with as few "liabilities" as posible. The fewer the knots, the better i feel. You can always try it and just take some notes and let us know how you feel about it.

  16. Either a spinnerbait or a Jig and Rage Craw. Spinnerbait got my PB one spring (a week and a half after ice out) and the Jig and Rage...well, I don't have to explain that do I?

  18. Swim jig with a Rage Craw trailer. Because I'm after the biggest bass around, and I can cover water quickly and thoroughly with that combo.

The ex wife hates the idea but I don't care lol. Truck for when it's raining or want to go fishing and bike for everything else.

  21. I have a Helios and Komodo. I really like both reels. They perform very well. They are both smooth reels. Both are very light weight. I do a lot of deep cranking with my Komodo and it's still just as smooth as the day I bought it. I've been using my Helios reel on a Helios 7'6 H rod as my flipping rig and I love it. Its so light weight, I can flip with it all day and never get tired. Great color scheme. So far the finish has held up very well. The Helios has a strong smooth drag, it casts very well, the breaks are easy to dial in for anyone no matter the level of your fishing skill, and as Bassman Dan said, there is a $30 mail in rebate on the Helios rods and reels through June or July. If I had the extra cash, I would definitely be buying another Helios. The only thing about both reels I really don't care for are the foam grips. They are a bit to square. If they were rounded off, they would be much better. But you can't go wrong with the Helios!

  22. A very versatile bait. I fish them weightless and weedless on a 1/0 EWG hook. Depending on how you rig them, they can be fished in open water, in the slop, on top, on the bottom, and anywhere in-between. You can drag them, swim them, and surf them. For bass, more of a "numbers" bait than a big fish bait but you can get an occasional lunker on them as well. In the 2010 to 2012 seasons, I caught 1618 fish, including bass up to 5 pounds, on 5" grubs... A 5-pound "grub fish":

  23. do you think that the Dobyn's Savvy 766 Flip/punch rod would be a good choice for the money?

  24. Ahhh. That makes more sense. This is stuff though that your typical child is not going to locate or even be able to access without a more advanced knowledge of the internet, proxys, and special programs. Searching information and what not is completely and totally different then on the world wide web. Basically you could almost say this is old school internet using new school technology.

  27. I have the Okuma Helios LP reel that is the6.2:1 gear ratio and from the little I have gotten to use the reel it is amazing. Light, casts great, very smooth, very smooth and powerful drag, easy to adjust braking system etc... Not completely crazy about the EVA grips but I am getting use to them. It is a great reel to fish with all day. I currently have the reel on a Helios rod and it is a very well balanced and light combo. Hope to have a full review up as soon as the weather warms up so more and I can get out and fish it a lot more.

  29. I just got the 2013 Helios and test drove it today. It's very lightweight and fits my hand well. The size and frame reminds me of my Lews Speed Spool TP's. The braking system isn't hard to set, and I was very satisfied with the casting distance ( I was using a T-rigged trickworm with 1/8 oz weight, and getting the same distance as my chronarch 50mg). This is my first reel with the EVA handles...they are a little strange at first but soon felt fine. I have it on a Powell Endurance 7ft MH rod and it is a sweet combo for light plastics. Time will tell as with any new reel, and this is my first Okuma but I am very happy so far...and the $30 rebate doesn't hurt either.

  30. I too have one of these little boats and use it for farm pond fishin. In fact, I am sitting in it for my avatar to the left. It's perfect for those small waters. Put it in the back of my pickup with all my goodies and can 4 wheel drive back to those boonie hard to reach ponds where the big guy's are just waitin for me! I have never modified mine, but have gotten many great ideas from this thread and will have to install a few of them. Thanks!

  31. Watched MLF on the DVR tonight, and there were three or four segments where the pros got to tell how they caught their fish. They all basically promoted the gear they used, but to a man, they went deeper, and clearly used that time to teach how to use that gear. None of what they said was brand dependent. I think given the opportunity, most truly want to help others gain success. After all, that's what keeps the industry afloat.

  32. If you're being paid under the table and not claiming it on your taxes, you're a thief. If that's the case, I'd leave the man alone, chalk it up to a good learning experience, and keep your business dealings above board from now on.

  33. Throw all hardbaits in the plano's, taking care to ensure that ALL the trebles get tangled. If I can get my deep cranks mixed with my spooks, that's just a bonus.

  34. I have this reel and like it. Handles are boxy but it did not bother me. Seems light and casts well. I have Shimanos and Lews I don't regret buying it.

  35. I buy what I want based on how it feels to me and stands up to what I put it through. If a $50 rod works and works well, it doesnt hurt my feelings that it only cost $50. I also want to have baits that effectively cover the situations that I want to fish. One brand certainly isnt going to cover it all nor is one style. I want a crank with a tight wobble, one with a wide searching wobble, one that sinks, one that suspends, one that floats. I want a spinnerbait that looks like an arig coming through the water, I want another that mimics one single fish. I want a topwater that walks the dog, one that pops, one that gurgles, one that buzzes... My point is, I know what I want to do and for me I can take a recommendation about what might do it however that doesnt mean I run out and buy that exact item.

  36. I had a bass master classic multiple winning pro call me up and order some baits. I told him I would just give them to him and he refused. He said he couldn't push them or really talk about them because of his agreements with his sponsors so he wouldn't feel right about getting the baits free from me so he insisted on paying. Very nice and honest guy. When it comes to pros pushing products I think its more of them NOT talking about the products they use that aren't sponsoring them, then them overselling their sponsored products. What I mean I believe most of what they are pushing they do use and they do like them. I did say MOST. But I do know that they probably all use stuff that they aren't supposed to talk about.

  37. No bashing at all. Just 4-5 posts read like ads for Seaguar, its their 1st post, so checked some them out and sure enough they are in association with Seaguar. They state just what I would expect them to state about a product they are in partnership with. I dont know any of them, dont follow the tournament scene, I have nothing against the brand/product at all. Im interested in the product thats why I read the thread to begin with. Just not influenced buy sponsored recommendations. I see this no differently than going into BPS hearing KVD say how great BPS Fluoro is give it a try. He is doing what is expected. Same view as the OP in this thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/112698-pro-credibility/

  38. I don't have a Helios but I do have the Komodo. I love everything about the reel except the breaking system access. If you can go back to the store and take a look at it. It isn't the easiest reel to get to the brake adjustment. However once you get it dialed in it is a good caster. Looks, retrieve, drag and comfort are all strong points. Before buying I would highly recommend messing around with braking system and making your decision based on this.

  40. They felt similar to the EVA knobs on the Patrriarch XT's to me. Not quite as "boxy" as the knobs on my Gen3 Revo STX. I thought they were very comfortable, but again, I love the EVA knobs.

  42. SCREW fishing slow!!! If you can see five feet or more, you need to fish fast. Slow roll a trap until it catches in some grass, then RIP it out and repeat. Shad start to dye off when the water he's into the low 40's. bass may be used to seeing fluttering baitfish. Also try a Jerkbait worked five to ten pumps at a time with a two second pause in between. If they can see well in the water, you can't give them time to think about it. Reaction bites are reaction bites no matter what the water temp is! Cover water! Good luck.

  43. I finally got out today from the bank. The lake thawed from all the rain last night so I gave it a shot. I landed 5 dink bass, 12 crappie and 3 yellow perch. I was throwing a silver blasé bait then work got in the way of my fishing again. It will be frozen againg around here in a couple of days so it was nice to get out.
