  1. Nice fish...I sometimes wonder if people post certain weights of fish just to get me to chime in. The better half of me tells me to remain silent, but of course the online forum keyboard warrior portion of me takes control and tells me to question how the weight of this fish was calculated? Great fish nevertheless.

  3. I have been a BIG fan of MegaStike since it was first introduced. Although we call it an "attractant", I don't think that is the case. Two attributes are what I consider important: (1) Helps bass hold the bait longer, especially soft plastics and (2) luricates both soft plastics and hard baits. This second feature improves hook-ups and to some extent, movement through the weeds.

  4. You could probably just get away with wearing a fluorescent orange hat while fishing. Honestly, any time that there is a firearms hunting season in full swing and I'm not on private property, I would check to see what the minimum required amount of orange clothing is and wear that while walking at least. In PA, it is 250 square inches while hunting.

  5. Get a cheap orange hunting vest and wear it to where you're fishing at then take it off when you get there. You could get in contact with the guys and exchange phone numbers so you can call to check if they're going to be hunting when you want to go out there. I'd either do that or avoid the area during hunting season but I'm not getting shot over a few fish.

  6. Shotguns range in decibles about a decible er inch of barrel between 18" barrel and 28" barrel. 18" = 161.5 28" = 151.5 Decible rating of standard pistols 9mm =159.8 40 = 158.3 45 = 157.0 All about the same. 150 db is enough to rupture your eardrums. Remember to always wear proper eye and ear protection when you can. When you cannot, your life and those you love is more important than your hearing! Jeff

  7. Nothing better than a pump shotgun for home defense. And while your at it, get some #7 1/2 target loads. If you have ever patterned a shotgun, even at 25 yrds with a cylinder choke, bird shot will only spread to about a basketball size. That is plenty of damage and won't go through walls. Jeff

  8. This may be overly simplistic, but when I want a jig to fall slower I will use trailer that offers more "resistance" on the fall. OR I will use heavier line. This might not be the kind of answer your looking for, but it works for me with the jigs I already have so I don't have to clutter up my jig selection with a bunch of special "niche" jigs. Another option is to buy a punch skirt, you can use any size weight or hook with them. A bulky punch skirt with a 1/16th oz weight pegged in front of it with the hook and plastic of your choice will fall pretty slow.

  9. What's going on everyone. First post here. I'm about to go make an introduction post over in that section soon. I live in South Florida and I'm fortunate to have the Everglades just a half hour drive away! I bought a boat sometime last year and because of work, school, repairs and weather, I just hadn't had the time to fish like I've wanted to. I decided about a week ago to finally buy myself a trolling motor and force myself to go fishing. I went with a Minn Kota and I absolutely love it. But enough ramble - onto the report. Made the decision last night to hit up some old spots out in Everglades Holiday Park to see if they still produced and to try out the new trolling motor. First trip of the year and it's a beautiful morning, lots of cloud cover, no wind. Made it to the ramp, splashed the ghetto boat, and made the journey into the glades! Tossed an original floating rapala at the first spot and immediately hooked up... Very good sign. From that point on fish were flying in the boat all day. When the topwater bite slowed down, we switched to watermelon red superflukes. When that slowed, we added a bullet weight, and then when that slowed down we switched to a blue wacky worm to catch the last 25 or so fish. Mostly small fish but a couple nicer 2 to 2.5 pounders were mixed in. We tried to get as many photos as we could, but with fish popping all around the boat, it was hard to stop fishing! My buddy Cross with a nice fish: And me Total tally ended with 84 fish, all caught and released. SUPER fun day for sure, and of course the regular Everglades hawks and gators that are always awesome to see. Going out in a couple weeks again to try some different areas and hopefully land a couple 5+ pounders. Also, I'll be getting a GoPro in a couple weeks to make video fishing reports. Excited for that! Can't wait to see what the rest of 2013 will bring. Tight lines everybody, DH

  10. Red colored baits -like red rattle traps are very productive in spring -They are great for provoking strikes by tight lipt bass. I designed the New Red Shad Strike Back Spinner bait for just that purpose-PRE SRAWN COLD WATER BASSN Click on picture--

  13. I label all by jerk bait boxes as good, better, best & most expensive. Then I but all the crap baits in the most expensive box, the mediocre baits in the best box , the average baits in the better box & my most prized baits in the good box. My buddies always pull out the the most expensive box & the best box to select what baits they want to use. That leaves the good box exclusively for me. Never hurts to have an advantage.

  14. I conceal carry 2 glock 17s. I have owned 9s, .40s, and .45s of all 3 you can dump the clip in a nine fastest. Get some hot loaded deep cut hollows in a 9mm and it will stop anything that a .45 will. Ive never been able fo understand the obsession with larger caliber handguns for self defense. A 9mm hollow will do more than enough damage to neutralize a target, when placed in the cranial cavity or in center mass. If you cant place your shot where you want it, then a larger caliber is not going to make any difference. I would stick with a 9mm and save your money. Thats just me though.

  21. I don't think anyone mentioned it yet, but I'd bet every inch of wood in that boat is rotten, including the transom. That's a mighty long trip to take to pick up a rotten log.

  22. I am not aware of his family's financial situation nor the relationship between the two.......but around here most folks sell things they do not want around unless they are not worth selling.....then they 'give' them away. not trying to be too negative.........hard to say when you are so far away from the boats. Worse case scenario could be quite expensive, but if you can figure it out with a tank or two of gasoline and a couple of stops at McDonalds with no other costs....then just look at it as a roadtrip with possible bonus. If you get there and decide it is not a deal then you can just say thanks but no thanks and come home without it. So unless the money you will be out to take the trip will put you in a financial hardship or some other relationship type problems....then I say go take a look and might score big time.

  24. In Va when I took the hunting class this year they said the DGIF only requires the blaze orange hat but their debating on that. I wear a sweater that I cut the sleeves off from the Dollar General. I want to be seen. This is from the DGIF website http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/general.asp Blaze Orange Requirements When hunting any species during the firearms deer season and youth deer day, every hunter (see exceptions below), or persons accompanying a hunter, shall wear a blaze orange hat or blaze orange upper body clothing that is visible from 360 degrees or display at least 100 square inches of solid blaze orange material at shoulder level within body reach and visible from 360 degrees. Hats may have a bill or brim color or design other than solid blaze orange. Hats shall not be in "camo" style, since the latter is designated to prevent visibility. A logo, which does not detract from visibility may be worn on a blaze orange hat. Hunters using ground (pop-up, chair, box, etc.) or tree stand blinds that conceal them from view must display a minimum of 100 square inches of blaze orange, visible from 360 degrees, on the OUTSIDE of such blinds. This blaze orange is in addition to any worn on the hunter's person. Exceptions Blaze orange is not required of waterfowl hunters, dove hunters, individuals participating in hunting dog field trials, and fox hunters on horseback without firearms. Hunters hunting with archery tackle during an open firearms deer season, in areas where the discharge of firearms is prohibited by state law or local ordinance, are exempt from the blaze orange requirement. Blaze orange is not required during the muzzleloading deer season(s).

  26. another thing to consider is the condition of the trailer......that is a long drive for a trailer that has been sitting and or neglected. You would not want to get stranded along the highway somewhere with burnt wheel bearings or have a tire go flat or blowout!

  29. Loved the show as well. Didn't care for what A-Jay has so aptly named the "TommyToe" I thought it was really funny when Hackney said "if that was my kid, He would be getting a whipping right now" after Ike went Ike. Glad for the folks who made it. Sorry that Timmy Horton did not make it. I am a fan of his. I remember a few years ago, when he had really long hair and I thought to myself, that man needs a haircut in the worst way. Then I read he was growing it long to donate it to "Locks of Love". Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Kinda hard not to be a fan of his after reading about that. Can't wait for the next episode.

  32. Yeah I talked to him today. He said he spoke to you about the handles. He's excited to try it out. I told him how great they were for flipping/pitching. I saw they had a hard time at the BFL. Oh well, that's fish in. Can't getem all the time. Looks like you guys are going to Holiday next. Good luck, I heard its starting to get better out there.

  35. Other guys have mentioned it but I would absolutely stress when you are saving to buy a firearm that you add In the cost of a locking gun cabinet and costs of ranges and safety courses so that you can get a safe at the same time as the gun. Then you can get properly trained ( as well as your spouse) within a short time of putting the firearm in your house. I would also recommend teaching your children about firearm safety as soon as your gun e ters the home. My son is only 2 but he already know that daddy's gun safes are absolutely off limits. It is expensive when you add everything together, but we all agree that protecting your loved one is absolutely worth ever penny.

  38. Check with your local Fish and Game (DNR) for what leagaly must be worn. Many states require or suggest a minimum amount of hunters orange. Sing or whistle or talk to a buddy. Hunters that know their quarry don't mind others in the woods or fields. Deer will often bed down during the day so anyone moving might move a deer past a hunter. There are those hunting that don't have a clue but I believe your biggest danger is your drive to the fishing spot.
