  1. My wife and son REALLY surprised me this Christmas... I had no idea she had been saving up to get me a new rod and reel, much less a brand new Revo S and matching Veritas rod, but she did, and she even let my 10 year-old son put his name on the tag in the "from" section. I'm a lucky man to have a wife that not only TOLERATES my fishing, but also actively supports it and a son that loves going out on the boat with me. I already know what I'm most thankful for this holiday season -- the best family that any man could hope for. Not only do they tolerate me and my crazy-fishing-addiction foolishness, but they even enjoy getting their lines wet. And it's NOT about the expense of such a nice gift either... even if they had just surprised me with a $6 pack of Senkos, I would have felt the same way... counting my lucky stars to have such a great family that actively promotes my favorite hobby. So how about it, guys... any of your ladies (or kids) surprise you with anything this year? Anything from a new lipless crankbait to a new bass boat -- doesn't matter how big just as long is it was a gift from the family this year... let's see it!

  6. You know folks, the past 2 months have been really rough on America. We witnessed a bitter presidential race that divided communities, brutal, senseless murders, and tragic natural disasters. With all these things happening around us, we can easily forget that humans can be even more awesome, more incredible, and more powerful than the darkest darkness life can dish out. This video, although many of you may have already seen it, has come at a time when we can easily let the darkness overwhelm us and pull us under. If you haven't seen it already, watch it, and let it remind you of just how incredible the human spirit is; and how much you cherish your friends and family, for they are what life is truly all about....

  8. I'm the opposite, I've owned both and no longer have the STX because I traded another member for another Revo S because I liked the feel of the S better than I did the STX. Haven't even touched one of the new models, these were last years reels.

  9. ^^^^^ Fruitcake wheel chock, that's funny! I am in, I just ate a gingerbread cookie that had quikrete instead of flour as its main ingredient.

  10. In November of each year you can sign up for a Christmas gift exchange... Fd takes all the names, mixes them up, and you buy for one person (send it to them) and a different person does the same for you. Awesome way to get some new gear!

  11. When you stock your swimming pool with local caught largemouth in the off season. When you win bets telling people you can catch said bass out of your pool. When you open up a bag of manns jelly worms and have to resist the urge to try one. When you tear up a whole bag of swimmin' flukes catching bass, then attempt to melt them back together with a lighter to keep on fishing

  13. I wonder how many times this topic has come up....hundreds! FC line is a monofilament, meaning single extruded strand, the difference being polymer; fluorocarbon verses nylon. Fluorocarbon is not stronger than nylon, it' has less light refraction and that is the only reason to consider using FC line. If you are fishing in off color water, FC line has little to offer. However if the water is clear and the bass are line shy, then FC is a good choice. The bottom line is FC stretches about the same as nylon, except FC line doesn't recover; it stays stretched and becomes smaller in diameter and weaker. When you tie knots with FC line you should avoid reducing the line diameter from the pressure of tightening the knot and squeezing line deforming it, thereby weakening the knot. All good FC knots cushion the line and deform it less than knots that apply high pressure. Lubricate the knot to reduce heating and pressure. Learn to tie your knots at home and practice looking for flattened line near the knot. I use FC line because of the gin clear water and use small diameter line to reduce line drag in the water. I also use premium nylon mono line, also small diameter whenever I can; meaning if the bass will bite I will nylon mono, if not I will go to FC. The reason mono knot strength is about 20% stronger pound per pound verses FC line. I use the San Diego knot for FC, it tests stronger and fishes stronger than any other knot with FC line, for me. Hybrid FC/nylon line is a good compromise; better knot strength then FC and reduced light refraction then nylon. Tom

  14. Yeah - the days are shorter, colder, windier, and the bite is poor. BUT, at least some of us still have soft water; fishing is hard, but you can still fish.... Usually, by this time in December, I have REAL cabin fever - the kind you get when your lakes look like this.

  16. I've read through this thread several times, now I've got to comment. You're what, 15 years old? My advice would be to save your money. Inflatables are a great option to fish out of. They are a pain when they are your only option. There is probably some geezer in your neighborhood who goes fishing a lot or who would go fishing more if they had someone to help load/unload the boat, etc. At 15 years old, that is the option I'd be pursuing. I just turned geezer this year (60+ is officially a geezer). Right now I don't need any help launching/loading the boat and hopefully it will be a long time before I require assistance. When that time comes, I hope someone like that is around, cause I plan on fishing regularly until I stop breathing.
