  2. This is what you have to look forward too.. They grow so fast, so spend all the time you can with them. Just yesterday my little guy was fishing with a bobber, and now he's pulling these in on lures...... Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  3. I don't buy that. True the mechanics of the 2 reels differ, but bringing a fish to the boat or shore is done by gathering up line on the reel. You can say winch if you like for a b/c or wrapping the line around the spool on a spinning reel but the result is identical, line gets put on the spool by turning the crank. The rod can move fish around, like away from cover or pylons but it doesn't bring the fish in, the reel does. Pull up and reeling in the slack is "landing fishing 101", primarily done with larger fish, this action is done with both conventional gear as well as spinning gear. As far as which type has more power, what's actually meant by more power, a higher max drag? I for one don't batten the drag down all the way, the max number is not all that important if you are playing a fish and not dragging it in.

  4. I fish about 4 or 5 ponds and since I have been fishing them I have honed in on what works and doesn't some styles of bait work in all, some baits work in one and not the other, some colors work in all some colors work on in one. Maybe the fish in your pond just don't like the worm style or that particular color.

  5. I always target bigger fish unless I'm fishing with someone who just wants to catch fish. I get as much from putting someone on fish as catching them myself most of the time. I do not consider a 3# fish small though; If after catching a few fish in that range nothing bigger shows up, I will try something or somewhere else just to see if the bigger girls can be persuaded to bite. I am OK with being skunked as a result of focusing on bigger fish, and I don't mind fishing all day for one bite, but if in the process a smaller fish or two shows up it is a bonus for me. I like catching fish...

  7. For sure man, Let me know if you need any ideas. One thing Ill tell you, if the knobs dont come off with a screw its going to be a good bit harder to get it workin right. Fished for around 5 hours today, they held up well to the fishing and a few fish, much more comfortable, no slipping anymore. I'm happy. That checkered pattern looks really nice Hovanec, Ill have to get on the lathe and see about turning some. What kind of chuck do you use to connect to cork? NGaHB

  8. I agree. This is the set up I use with a Powell Endurance Med H Ex Fast 7'2. I throw them with a three year old Curado 200DHSV. 7.0 to 1 ratio It's a sweet rig for swim jigs 1/4 or 3/8.

  9. I have one of each on 20 ft boats. The only significant difference is the props. If you are fishing in heavy vegetation, go with the MK and weedless wedge. If you fish open water, it does not matter.

  10. Mike and I, team Hawgtech, went out yesterday morning with Captain Steve Daniels to do a little fishing and testing of the Hawg Handle prior to taping his weekly radio show. The wind made us change plans and launched on the North end instead of Clewiston. After the morning session and the recording studio, Mike and I stopped and fished the Everglades, and put a hurting on Bertha! Our five biggest went over 30lbs again with Mike's biggest being a 7 1/4lber, I ,once again was only catching 5lbers with him on the boat. 11. Went out with my buddy flyfishman and my son Saturday morning. Dave got there a bit before us, had a couple of blow ups and turned the spot over to me and my son. Thanks for that Dave. My boy cast, hooked and reeled this in all by himself. I am very pretty proud of him, this is his biggest fish on a lure, not using live bait. This is what it is all about, we had a great time. Here are a couple pics of the biggest fish of the day! He landed it on a 5'6" zebco rod with a pfleuger president 20 series on 4 pound stren mono with a black and yellow johnson beetle.

  13. If you end up using wood, make sure to check out tinboats. There is a plethora of knowledge on how to make wood work. My boat is all aluminum. More expensive, but will NEVER rot! Jeff

  15. Yesterday was a day in bass fishing heaven...fishing Lake Okeechobee with Steve Daniel in the morning, lunch with Steve/Deb at Roland Martin's tiki bar talking old school Okeechobee fishing, radio show with Steve, afternoon trip at Loxahatchee catching toads non-stop (first time in my life I've been disappointed catching 5lbers), followed by a cold beer and the best hot wings in South Florida (Park Avenue). Someone pinch me... https://www.hawgtech.com/blog

  17. I'm going to try and be tactful. Firstly all of my fishing is for fun, not that I'm not serious about it. My prime targets are way bigger and stronger than bass, I get plenty of that kind of action almost everyday. When I do go bass fishing, which is most afternoons, I'm happy to catch any size. This is my relaxing time to fish, it can be as much fun as a 15# snook which is as common as a 3# bass, I really enjoy bass fishing. When I see PB of 4-5-6 or even 10# that means 1 fish and most are way smaller, hard for me to understand scoffing at a 3 pounder. If I'm looking to have fun, 3 pounds is great I'd just be downsizing my gear, which is how I fish for them. If 3 pounds is a dink, maybe some should forget bass fishing and only target larger more powerful species, I'll stick with my dinks and have a ton of fun.

  18. Flouro is more sensitive than mono or copoly because it is a denser line. Slack line bites are easy to detect. Abrasion resistance is good. It supposedly has the same light refraction as water so fish can't see it as easy. The bad.... If it gets a little kink or nick anywhere it will break. Knot strength is not quite as good though I haven't had a knot break yet just the line. The line is generally pretty stiff though a good dose of kvd line treatment helps. It does stretch no matter what any one says it is just doesn't immediately come back to the original length like mono. What that changes in my opinion is that it doesn't give it the springy feel and gives it the illusion of no stretch. When fishing it feels like it doesn't stretch but I know it does.....I checked lol. I have gone to it for all my bottom baits because of the sensitivity. As long as you keep a close eye on the line for Knicks and such u won't have problems.

  19. Without putting a pound / size on what qualifies a bass as a dink in any particular body of water / area of the country, I prefer to fish for what ever is the better than average or trophy size fish in that impoundment. I am not interested in sore lipping several Juvenal bass in the process. A skunking is a bit humbling when trying to catch smaller fish but is just part of the process when targeting larger fish. A day or a couple of completely skunked trips, indicates that I am definitely doing something wrong - so I'm learning. It doesn't mean however, that I have to actually like it. A-Jay

  20. Nice! A little money-saving tip I use for a swim bait trailers...We use alot of Gambler Big Ez swimbaits in the grass down here in the Everglades/Okeechobee. When the nose of these baits gets beat up, I break the baits in half (they are jointed in the middle) and use the tail end as a swimjig trailer. The profile looks a lot like a sunfish.

  22. Well, similar threads do come up every week, at least once a week! So, after a page or two they usually turn into "mine is better than yours", the thread turns nasty and gets locked. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
