  1. Check your guides and tip. one of you guides on your rod could be cracked which is causing the line to fray which eventually caused the line to break

  2. Check your guides and change you line. Remember this: If a knot isn't PERFECT, it's not good enough.

  5. Is the line old? been sitting on a shelf for 5 years at the store before you bought it? Big fish !!!!!! Fish with teeth cutting the line? What type of line? Sharp guide or spot on the reel, or depending on the line you are using could be the knot slipping thru or if you tie fast knots with monofilant line you could be weakening the line at the knot. With mono line tie your knots slowly to keep friction and heat to a minimum. the heat and friction weakens the line. We find with braided line the knots will slip thru a little at a time especially if you are not using the correct knot. We always retie knots every hour or so especially with top water and fishing weedy or rocky areas. Even weeds will damage line a little bit at a time. Some will say that it is a waste of time and not needed, but it is my time and this is what i do. This is a fantastic site for helping to learn the correct or what the experts say is the best and correct knot for different types of line and doing different things. http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/ If you read thru Bass Resource i am sure there is a place to learn these knots also

  6. Hey boss, I'm in your neck of the woods! Fished all weekend on a private lake north of COMO. I caught lots of dinks, probably only three decent fish 3lbs +. After that major front moved through Friday evening the fishing did slow down. For what's it's worth, I downsized my bait to a T~rigged baby brush hog or zoom trick worm and the bite picked up for me. Showed down the retrieve, slow bottom hop. Had my most success thoroughly fishing brush/standing timber and docks on rocky banks with quick access to deep water. I would darn near anchor on a spot that looked fishy. Had 0 luck at the back end of coves so I stuck to points and structure just off the main drag. I've never been to Smithville but I hear folks over this way rant and rave about the crappie action. Tight lines, and keep at it.

  8. Do you have your sonar set up to show the "little fishy" symbols on the screen? Or the arches? Most sonar manufacturers will tell you that when you look at these fish symbols on your screen, there is a greater chance of mis-representation; that is, you have a bigger chance of the fish return you are looking at actually being floating vegetation and/or brush. This is not me saying this mind you....rather the manufacturer. Take it for what it's worth.

  9. I tend to set the hook the opposite way the fish is takin off with it, like with a jig or plastic worm. With anything else I don't really think about what I do, I'll have to actually pay attention next time

  10. Super Tuning involves polishing of critical friction points that affect free spool. Specifically, spool shaft, spool shaft ends, brass tension spacers, inside of pinion gear.

  12. Didn't a cool front just sweep across the country over the weekend? I know bass can become quite lethargic post-cold/cool front. Usually takes them about 3 days to adjust to the new conditions. Just my thoughts.

  15. I'm not one to recommend any brand in particular, but I'd stick with a quality brand on this one as your reel will really be getting a workout. As far as gear ratio, I would recommend a 6.3:1. It's fast enough for both applications and not so fast that you hve to drastically change your cranking speed to slow down when you want to.

  16. oh yea....get a kayak or canoe!!! i fished heavy from the shore 2 full seasons. it was great b/c i really learned how to read a body of water. i can roll up to an unknown body now, w/o a map, and read it well. after awhile i just couldn't take being on shore anymore b/c i could literally see all the great spots i was missing out on (HeavyDulx: you obviously feel the same pain looking at good weed bed you can't fish effectively!). It's been pure heaven getting better angles, better cover, deeper water access points from a kayak. i imagine its the same going from a bass boat with no electronics to buying a depth finder. opens a whole new world

  20. I have never fished a floating worm but have been interested in trying to add it to my weekend fishing arsenal since the lakes are usually pretty heavily fished in this area. I was wondering what are your personal preferences as far as rigging/color go. I know they are often fished weightless but I have also heard/seen people using em on C-rigs or shakey heads. Secondly, how do u fish em weightless? do you just let it sink and occasionally twitch it as it falls?

  21. Paragraphs are used to separate ideas/topics. Had there been a need to delineate content, I would have used a separate paragraph. However, what I posted was only worthy of a single paragraph since it was all related to the same topic. Single sentence paragraphs are poor form. Thanks anyway.

  22. For crankbaits I've had great luck with 10lb Trilene 100 % , Dont know why but it seems to handle better than the heavier weights. I use it for anything from dd22's to wiggle warts. If your going to use flouro for moving baits I dont think you have to spend a lot of money for the best For spinnner baits I either use 15lb big game or if I'm using flouro I like vicious.

  26. If you're catching bluegill try upsizing your bait. Get some 3/8 oz bullet weights, 4 and 5/0 EWG worm hooks, punch stops and some 10" worms, rage tail lobsters or brush hogs. Peg the weight near the hook and throw that thing at any cover you see. Let it fall straight down and hop it back in. Get some 5.5" hollow body swimbaits and some 6/0 keel weighted swimbait hooks. Throw it around cover, over submerged weeds, downed trees etc. Smaller male bass travel in schools and often suspend to chase baitfish. The big girls are loners. They tuck up in cover and wait for a nice big easy meal.
