  1. My next reel will definitely have centrifugal brakes. My gen 2 SX is the last reel I will own that has mag brakes.

  2. I went to Bass Pro today and found this little BPS Finesse binder for plastics....for $18. I examined it and it looked PERFECT, so I came home with it and filled it with ORIGINAL PACKS of worms, senkos, frogs, creatures and what nots. I really like the set up: not too big, not too small.....just right! Thanks, TN Basser!

  3. Got my first shipment in from Tackle Warehouse. I think I am addicted. How do you think I did on my order?? Stanley Ribbits Fat Ika SK Rage Shad SK Rage Toad Zoom Horny Toad Northstar Flip and Swim Jigs Dirty Jack No Jack Punching Jigs Owner Jig Rigs (essentially a pre-made Jika rig) Owner Yuki Bug Rage Craw Chunks Tungsten Bullet Weights Tungsten Nail Weights My current tackle setup has a lot of flukes (prob too many I think to carry at one time), senkos, grubs, KVD 1.5 cranks, slashbaits, and a few creature baits. Anything else I just have to pick up or should this keep me set for awhile, lol. Also, I know I bought a good number of topwaters (soft body frogs) but I fish some very heavily weeded areas. Thought they would be a good investment.

  4. Yes, all my skirts are hand tied with wire. When I take them off I dry them out before putting them back in the box. It's always been rust that used to kill my jigs.

  10. The north woods of Michigan is home to a decent collection of birds, reptiles, amphibians and furry mammals. The only thing I don't want to bump into is a black bear, and there's a few around. They are usually seeing you Way before you see them and they will avoid people at least around here. Only came across one in the last 5 years but that was enough. A Zero Dark Thirty meeting at boat ramp pretty far off the beaten path - I don't know who was more surprised, me or Yogi but I may have needed clean fishing pants. A-Jay

  11. You did real well, for your first order. Soon it'll be time to place a second order, and then a third, and then the monkey has a firm hold on you!

  13. I know what topic you are speaking of. You see, every new member gets the once over from us when they sign on. In just a few seconds we do a few simple checks to make sure they aren't here for the wrong reason. (Spammer... etc.) This particular new member had a few posts that raised some red flags. So we dug a little deeper and came to the conclusion that he was here only to be a troll. So we helped him to the door right at the same time you were typing your response. When the door closed behind him all his posts disappeared leaving you with that error message.

  14. I have used Suffix 832, Power Pro and Spider Wire EZ braid. All 3 were great quality and strong as could be. Power Pro felt like a chain saw blade going through the guides. So did spider wire. I ended up going with 832 as my primary as its super smooth. Power Pro has a slick braid out but I haven't tried it yet. I back mine with 50-60 yards of cheap #12 mono with an improved albright knot.

  15. I'm pulling this from my experience. Do you pop them high enough so they get enough room to fall or just scoot them across the bottom? And, do you let them sit on the bottom and twitch your rod? I've honestly had more fish subtly pick my jigs off the bottom when I'm just giving it that little bit of movement than when they fall. I also pop my jigs twice in succession - pop pop, sink. I feel like if I don't get them up high enough to really fall I don't get that reaction bite as opposed to when they get up enough and drop down. Not saying you have to break the surface or anything.

  16. Well for perch and bluegills, tiny jigs tipped with mousies or grubs are hard to beat. For crappie, dots tipped with fathead minnows or rosies. If your going for walleye, jigging Rapalas tipped with a fathead. For pike, a large shiner or sucker minnow on a circle hook with a steel leader. As far as rods go, ultra light for panfish, medium for walleye, and meadium heavy and up for pike. Everyone has they're own preferences in rod power and length, though. And if you got the extra cash to throw around, invest in a good flasher. Marcum or Vexilar. It will really cut down on the amount of time you'lll spend looking for active fish, and will help you get more bites from inactive fish. Oh yeah, and a sled to haul all this crap is also VERY helpful.

  17. All of these depend on where you are fishing. Best Jig? - Brand is going to be different from person to person so I won't even bother with that so I will say this instead: - Football head jig - best fished around rocks - Arkie head jig - best around wood and for skipping - Alien head jig - best around weeds - Swim jigs - obviously for swimming There are other heads out there (rocker, ball, etc.) but these are the most common and what I fish. Best color? - Personally I like black/blue. But keep it simple - black, brown, watermelon Best Trailer? - This also depends. Most people will use craw trailers but you will find a very wide variety. Put something back there with a lot of action to get reaction strikes Best technique? - Again, depends. I like to hop them through weeds with a hop, hop, sink, pause and twitch for 5 seconds, repeat pattern. You can drag them across the bottom. Swim jigs fish similar to a spinnerbait or even a crankbait, make it erratic. ALSO, check out the how to videos here. Gene has several videos all about jigs. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/#0 Hope that helps a little

  19. Admitting we can all here them all speaking to us many isles away, leads us to adopting them because of the way they look at us.Helpless, trapped in packaging, etc. We all try to help some by bringin them home, but soon return to help those left behind. We all must do our part to insure they have a nice place to live.....

  20. I mounted 4 pieces of 1.25" PVC with zip ties in a milk crate, and the rods stand upright in those. In the carton, you can store your anchor, rope, etc

  24. I keep all of mine in the original bags. That way they stay fresh, and I know the brand, size, and color when I run out of something. I use soft side six-pack coolers (of differant colors) and label the coolers with permanent marker to keep the types of bait seperated. By using differant color soft side coolers you will soon remember whats in each color bag. This keeps them handy, protects them from the weather, makes storage easy, and allows me to bring only the type baits that are appropriate for that trip.

  25. The most important feature any man made reservoir has is the bottom contour. I didn't open the links, but did look at the photos attached and the lake looks to be close to full pool, definitely a positive. Summer LMB have a lot of prey choices, it is up to you to determine what the preferred prey choice is at the time you are fishing. Summer is transitioning to fall, so things will change quickly. The key to catching bass consistantly is to locate active bass. The suspended fish you may have metered on your sonar unit (?) are inactive fish, I have no idea if they are bass or not! Few questions; describe your fishing tackle and boat. Do you know if this lake has a thread fin shad population? Do you have a topographic map that shows bottom contour in 1 or 2 foot elevations? Depending on your tackle, let's choose a few lures that should work and stay with those for a few months. Tom

  28. Basically the same locations you find them during pre spawn, except the smallies will be roaming or and looking for prey in the 8 to 10' break line; or deeper; larger bolders and any isolated stumps. Good pair of plorazed glasses and watch for any bass interested in your lure. Multi bass fishery. The LMB should be a little tighter to cover, same areas as the smallies but shallower and bright green heathy weed beds should hold the LMB. Cloudy days both bass could be roaming looking for bait fish,,Crawdads appeal to both bass; I prefer the more compact finesse jigs for smallies and larger trailers for LMB, both will react to a drop shot 6" finesse worm. A spinnerbait is a good search lure and often works very well in the fall, just work it deeper and slower; Indiana blades help to reduce speed and work the 5' depth zone so you can see it and watch for followers. Tom PS; keep in mind that fall can bring on the dreded turnover; if your lake bottom debris floating and the water smells a little like sulfur, change lakes for a few weeks or move to the opposite end and check that water. Lots of adjustments ongoing during the fall, once it settles down, some of the best fishing can be on tap.

  29. Midwest here also. Ive already noticed more bass in the shallows. Topwater is finally producing some decent bass instead of the occasional dink. BTW its raining cats and dogs here in the Quad Cities right now. The temps are dropping and Im feeling the itch to FISH! If it keeps raining and we get rained out here at work then Ill give you one guess what Im doing when I leave...

  34. nice man. i had tournament at mcclure in january and did pretty good, the bites been good lately. same with pedro but havent heard much about melones and pardee. lol yea millerton and pineflat are tough lakes to fish, very tough. do you have dates set for your trip?

  35. I live in Clovis out by the Clovis hospital. Getting ready to do a 4-day multi-lake trip (McClure, Don Pedro, New Melones, then probably either the Delta or Lake Pardee as the 4th.) Anyway, currently re-carpeting my bass boat (little 16 footer) which should be done here pretty soon. I don't fish locally if I can help it - I hate Millerton and Pine Flat! I do LOVE bass fishing though. I've taken many people out and they get boorreedd because they're not catching much if anything (as you well know probably, Millerton and Pine Flat aren't the best lakes to introduce someone to Bass Fishing..). Usually try to take first timers to Eastman, just a longer drive and gas prices are puttin' on the hurt!

  38. USA Bassin has tons of tournaments in Indiana. Check out their website and go to the divisions... they list out what lakes, dates, and times. Indiana isnt known nationally for bass fishing only because we don't have any lakes suitable for large level tournaments. There are TONS of challenging and very good fisheries all across the state though. Just nothing as big as the giant southern resevoirs.
