  1. I go for the challenge of finding and catching fish, but underlying that - and more important - is the opportunity to get away from hassles and obligations and just plain "be there." Makes me smile.

  2. Was out doing a little boat prep before fishing this weekend and Adam decided to join the fun, I figured I would make it educational for him so I explained to him the components seconds before turning on the phone camera to record the little creature and get a laugh out of the family. My favorite part is when he finds the wiring harness and calls them KON-EX-TIONS. Click pic for video.

  3. I've had that experience before with new tackle. It could just be the kid in us. We never really grow up, we just get into more expensive toys.

  4. You know the biggest gripe with musky anglers (besides the thousand casts) is catching more LMB than muskies

  5. Don't spend any more money, fish what you have for now. With a little experience using your tackle, you will have a better idea on what you need to get in the future. It sounds to me that your stepfather can help, too.

  6. Try a swim jig, or a casting or grass jig, you can swim, flip or whatever with those jigs. Try them naked, or with a trailer, I prefer the Rage Tail line as trailers, the best I have found so far.

  7. I have gotten in Trouble too many times from fishing and still do to this day, like terrible weather, or getting stuck or lost while trying to get to the lake, boat ramp problems, boat problems while on the water, Broken rods, trolling batteries run down, there are so many to mention BUT running out of baits when the BITE is HOTT is the worst trouble I've EVER gotten into and I'll never do that again LOL, fine topic IMO, a fisherman has a NEED to fish and a family that understands that NEED is a demonstration of True Love. NOW throw that at'em and see if it STICKS... But don't blame me if it doesn't, I don't want to be IN TROUBLE

  8. In a pinch, those damaged rubber baits that can no longer be texas rigged are good. A tiny piece and stick the main hook through it and down to the bend will keep the trailers from backing off. As a last resort if you only have a few trailer hooks is to take the tubing, run it over the eye of the trailer hook so the entire eye has tube around it, then run your main hook through both tube and eye of trailer hook. This method is very secure but you sacrifice the ability to have the trailer hook move freely.

  9. Well, I like the SR705R, but it is very "technique specific", For big, deep running lures like the DD22, it's THE BOMB!

  12. Thank you sir. BPS didn't have the 5/O 1/4 oz so I got the 4/O instead. Hopefully they work just as well. I cannot wait to try my roosters out today. It's been a slow month on the lake, and I'm hoping that the roosters wake the fish up for me tonight. Got them in Bama Bug, black blue fleck, and Okeechobee craw.

  14. This post has told me all I need to know about you, LgMouthGambler. Not only were you wrong and insulting to the folks who disagreed with you, but you're not even man enough to admit your mistake? All you can do is toss more insults over your shoulder while you slink off into a corner to hide for a while? Weak. All this time I thought the "LgMouth" portion of your name was a reference to bass, but apparently I was wrong...

  16. Yes, I work midnight shift from midnight-8am Thursday night at midnight-Tuesday morning at 8am. Makes finding people to go with me difficult but it's so nice at the same time because there's far fewer people on the water during the week. Welcome to the forum! This is a great forum and this particular thread is one of the best area specific threads I've ever read. There's a great group of guys on here that are more than willing to share what we've found to be working and where. I think most of us are just about as excited to see someone else on this thread catch a good fish as we are when we get a good one ourselves.

  18. I don't troll for bass. There really isn't a need to. Bass don't move as much as other species. Most of the time they are on some type of cover or structure. You locate that structure and fish it. I doubt the reason that trolling isn't allowed in tourneys is because it's so effective. I'd bet that a good bass fisherman would outperform a troller all day. I see it as a "chuck and luck" technique. If you know where the fish are there is no need to troll. Im not into any fishing where you're not holding the rod when the fish bites. Also don't like how you are basically extending your vessel however much line you have out. So a person with 50 yards of line out is taking up 50 yards behind him while "fishing" the lake That being said I have met some great fishermen who troll, they just don't fish for bass. Mostly walleye guys or saltwater guys. Nothing against people who troll, I just don't think of it as a serious bass fishing technique. Again, just my opinion.

  20. Metal, plastic, or rubber. Heck, I don't care what it's made of as long as it's durable and performs to my liking. It could be made out of spider web for all i care.

  22. Thanks for the info Pack and Big-O. I edited my original post since I had much better luck with them today. Not as fast action, but I did catch 4 on the same bait. The original post was actually poking a little fun at RW, so sorry for the confusion. I know the Strike King Rage products are good quality baits and I have many of them, but I also have other brands. Thanks again Big-O.

  23. Absolutely Lew's. I bought a Lews TP as soon as they hit the market and haven't looked back. Shimano discontinued the older Chronarch 50 mg, which is what started me looking at other reels. Shimano makes an excellent product, but competition has caught up. Shimano ran the market in primo low profile reels, but with todays technology, they're having a hard time staying on top. I still buy Shimano for my inshore saltwater gear, such as the Calcutta, which I seriously doubt will have any competition for a LONNNNG time. My next shimano purchase will be a Stradic to replace my old Stradic, but I don't foresee myself bying anymore low-pros from Shimano unless they make some dramatic changes. I strongly believe in Shimano's products, having used them for decades. I just don't like anything they offer in low-pro anymore.

  24. Take the model name off the reel... At ~$200 you have a reel that has XYZ bearings, spool, drag, etc. Who cares if one year that $200 reel is a Curado and the next it's a Chronarch, IT'S STILL A $200 REEL THAT HAS XYZ AND DOES WHAT YOU'D EXPECT A ~$200 REEL TO DO... Next year I hope the call it something new just so I can hear peoples heads exploding over it. I'm not trying to be snarky, I think people just get caught up in names/paint/"History" and lose sight of the fact that for a $200 reel it's a darn fine product regardless of the name. Nobody is freaking out over Daiwa's reusing the Cielo name on a MUCH inferior newer rod. Or the Aird, or the Legalis or the Presso...

  26. Don't fret. I have the same experience, I fish from bank on a river and I have limited access so it really is hit or miss (missing more than hitting). Find a pattern and learn the subtleties in it. I would also suggest a fishing diary, where you where, what the weather was, how the water was and what you threw. That will help you start to understand what the fish want and how they act under the conditions.
