  4. OK, I don't even know where to start...... Last Monday morning, my fishing partner, Paul, and I caught the first flight out from Memphis to Houston Texas, and then to Guadalajara, and the Culiacan Mexico. We arrived at the fishing lodge 3 hours later after a truck ride through the poor parts of Mexico, and then into the Mountains. We arrive at the lodge to a warm welcome of fresh frozen margaritas!!!!! We get settled in and start rigging rods and reels. 4 each with line in the range of 12 Yo-zuri to 17 flouro. Little did we know it would be too little, but we had backup! Most of the fish were caught in the "bushes", more like trees. The first day we broke off 4 good fish, and switched to 30lb and braid. Not many more problems, just a couple. Next time I will take only 25 lb flouro and braid. and if you know me, I hate braid! LOL We fished Tues-Friday at THE BEST BASS FISHING LAKE IN THE WORLD!!!!!! Tuesday AM we fished from 6 am-12:45: 26 Bass (8 lb 8 oz Pauls new PB) + 1 over 7lbs, 7 over 6lbs and 10 over 5!!!!!!!! But wait, it just keeps getting better........... Tuesday PM we fished 2pm- 8:30 : 6 bass (9lb 13oz my new PB) + Paul caught 3 over 8( 8lb 3oz, 8lb, 8lb 6 oz) and also 1 over 5lbs Wed AM we fished 6am-12pm: 13 bass (10lb 4 oz my new PB again) + 1 over 9, 1 over 8, 1 over 7 and 1 over 5 Wed PM we fished 3pm-7:45pm: 11 bass ( 9lb 11oz Paul new PB again) + 1 over 7 and 1 over 5 Thurs AM we fished 6:15am- 1:30pm: 19 bass ( 10 lb 14 oz my new PB again) + 1 over 8, 2 over 7, 1 over 6, 1 over 5 Thurs PM we fished 4:30pm- 8:30 pm: 30 bass with only 1 over 6 Friday AM we fished 6am-12pm: 83 bass(10 lbs 9 oz Paul new PB again) + 10 lbs 2 oz(Pauls PB at the time), 1 over 8 4 over 7 10 over 6 and 10 over 5 Friday PM we fished 5pm- 8pm: 45 bass for one day total of 128!!!! 1 over 9, 1 over 8, 1 over 7, 4 over 6 and 10 over 5 83 bass over 5 lbs in 4 days, which was almost 40% of our entire catch! Absolutely UNREAL!!! Unlike anything I have ever heard of in my life! Fish were feeding on shad, and keyed in on moving baits almost solely. Didn't fit my style of fishing, but with results like that who would complain!! Found out the time of year for jigs/t-rigs,topwater and will be making my next trip then! BAITS OF CHOICE: 1/2 oz scrounger with rage lobsters, trick worms and swing fat impacts BIG crank baits (dd22, cbd20, bomber fat free bd8f) 12-14 foot cranks Worms were thumpers, anacondas and ol monsters and senkos Caught a couple(4-5) on topwater popper and spook Caught a couple on my hand tied jigs Caught a couple on 1 oz spinnerbaits Caught a couple on storm swimbaits Let me tell you this was absolutely the best fishing trip of my life. Both of us got out of the 8 lb, into the 9's and then into the DD Club. A goal we have been trying for for our whole lives! I highly recommend this trip to any serious bass angler. It has become a staple in my travels, one that hopefully I can do every year! Our guide, Manual "lightening" Salazar was amazing! Best fisherman I have ever come in contact with. The lodge was awesome! No TV, No internet, No cell service, just you, the bugs( beetles, scorpions, grass hoppers, lizards and frogs) and the fish!

  5. Here in the middle of Kansas, the drought is severe and the heat has been brutal. The water level at the community lake that I fish the most is down at least six feet from where it was last year. As a result, the structure that was in 12-15 feet of water is now only 6-9 feet deep. The water temperature has reached the mid 80s and driven the bass into deeper water and out of reach of us shore-bound anglers. It's been a tough summer. Tom

  6. The only downside on the CT 200D USDM is not having an easy access to the brakes, you need to open it and take out the spool to adjust the brakes. But the CT100D JDM has the easy access to the brakes.

  10. That is my stance on the matter, I say no also. Out of respect as well as just not needed for problems. In fact I hate a majority of social media sites as I feel they cause issues that just would never happen otherwise. A lot of people think my views on this are wrong, and I feel crazy and I am looking to see what others feel.

  11. Thanks Sean! Kevin (KingFisher) and I did manage to get out early Saturday morning at Black Hills from 6-10am over by the stickups. We didn't do too bad- I managed 3 and Kevin got 2. All were nice sized fish with the biggest going 3lbs 5oz on a scale- I would have sworn it weighed more given how long it was, estimated 19-20". The article Bass Resource has on removing the hook on gut hooked fish came in handy, as Kevin and I sucessfully removed hooks from two gut hooked fish who seemed to swim away fine.

  12. BassClary, I wish I had seen your post sooner. A couple points.... - Cutting carbon fiber is a very difficult and dangerous thing to do without the proper setup! I would not be cutting it in the garage with a dremel. Please use proper equipment and ventilation... - Patents. I have eleven patents. They certainly have their place in product development, but unless you have the deep pockets to file and defend an international patent, it may not be in your best financial interest to do so. If you think you might eventually want to file a patent on your idea, one thing you can do is file a preliminary disclosure. This is much cheaper than an actual filing and it sets the original date of the IP. It also allows you patent pending status, which may be advantageous. - Do a full cost analysis on your idea and add about 30% to that. This will give you some idea of your breakeven point, and the financial feasibility. - Of course, another way to bring a carbon fiber product to market would be to partner up with someone who has a little experience with this sort of thing (hint, hint). if you think your idea has merit, make sure to get a non-disclosure agreement signed before discussing your idea with them....yes, that includes myself. I would have no problem signing a non-disclosure before talking to you.

  14. I lurves my 200D. I've only had it a short two and a half weeks, but man it's stellar. Currently it has 20lb mono on it for throwing 6" Hudds. I wanted to try it with that, and haven't changed to what its intended use is- a crankbait reel. I haven't had the chance to fish my 300Ds yet, only cast them, and played. One is on an A-Rig stick and the other is on my big swimmer. Easily the single best upgrade Shimano has made to any reel in my memory. They're stellar. They DO have more torque, and they're very comfortable in hand, the thumb "slot" on top of the reel makes it so much more comfortable; I can't really explain that bit, you just have to get them in hand to see the bit I'm talking about. It's sort of a cutout for your thumb on top of the reel that eases palming... Anyhow, yeah, probably number 3, possibly 2, on my best buy list for the category. I like them more than my Plutons.

  15. Does anyone remember the commercial that used to come on many, many, many, years ago about the indian walking through a clean meadow and up to a hill. He then walks to the top of the hill and sees "civilization" on the other side. On the "civilization" side he sees a stream with a grocery cart, dead bird and litter in it. The camera then focuses in on the indian's face and you see a tear rolling down his cheek? I had that same feeling today out in the boat. I didn't cry but felt like it. Actually, I got very angry and wanted to donkey kick someone. I was enroute to Lake Clarke Shores from Lake Osborne via the Keller canal and saw a couch (yea, a *** couch), a cooler and an assortment of bottles and trash along the bank. I swear some people are so *** ignorant that they should be forced to live at the local dump.

  16. Yea, I get that. My first baitcaster was an extreme cheapo and was the worst fishing reel I ever owned. I got to the point where I didn't even bother using it. Then I got a combo that was just slightly better, slightly more expensive and got pretty good with it. I severely reduce my backlashes and almost never had one that necessitated a line cut. That said, I need a new rod/reel and I want that to be a baitcaster. I can't see any time soon being able to drop $100 on a reel. Not that I can't afford it, but I can't justify that amount of money on one thing when the wife is complaining about needing a new vacuum.

  17. Is it just me or do the hits on swimjigs take one of two extremes? I haven't thrown them much, but it seems either they try to jerk the rod out of your hands or just feel like dead weight until you set the hook, not much inbetween,

  18. On hot, sunny days, I wear lighter colors, preferably white since it absorbs less radiant heat from the sun. On cool days, I'll wear dark colors to better absorb the suns heating rays. The weather dictates what I wear. It's difficult to enjoy just about anything, including fishing, if you are too hot, too cold, or miserably wet.

  20. I got a BPS Carbonlite earlier this year and really like it. It's in the lower end of your price range and it's made in several different lengths and power / actions. I have a 6'6" Med Fast and it has plenty of backbone. It's rated for lures from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.

  21. you should try using some owner twistlock hooks. ive been using them lately and it seems to hold the bait longer than the wide gap hooks.

  22. For me its the usual pop pop pause in open water. Im a bit more deliberate and patient near visible cover where i know theres likely a fish. I also have great results ever so gently "jigglying" the lure, trying to emulate a large grasshopper, bird or the like struggling on the surface. Not necessarily trying to make it "bloop" or "pop", just a quiver on semi tight line. This is deadly here in VA come August.

  23. I've been fishing the vmc spin shot drop shot hook this season and I like them. From what I noticed, here's some additional feedback; your results may vary ~ They do drastically reduce line twist. I fish very clear open water with this hook - I have not noticed a reduction is bites with this hook. The hook is sharp out of the package and stay sharp - as I do not fish this hook / rig is cover. I have not had any line tangling issues with this rig, any more than with a traditional drop shot set up. I will add that I do not use fluorocarbon line (for reasons I will not get into here) As stated, I fish mostly open water with this rig so I can use light line and a light drag setting. With that said, I have not had this vmc spin shot hook straighten out. On a separate / somewhat different note. Drop shot is always thought of as a finesse , small bait technique. And there is no doubt that it is very effective that way. But I've been having good results using a bit larger profile bait. Baits like the small version/size of some of the more popular creature baits. (4" power hawg, 3.5" Big Bite Fighting Frog, the small Lake fork Magic Shad - to name a few) Match the hook to the baits size if course. But even so, the small hook and open water allows the use of very light line which I think translates into more bites. Also using a bit larger bait has induced a bit bigger bass and reduces the number of dinks. A-Jay

  25. Not a review or recommendation, just an experience. For continually cast and retrieve I use mono on only one set up, I do respool often. I use my same procedure most of the time, soaking my line in hot water before putting it on my spinning reel. I use 14# and have little or no problem with suffex elite and spider wire xxx, as I needed to respool I put some Stren original (same test and line diameter), I have never seen line coil and jump off the reel like that before. I then respool with my standby trilene xl, no coil at all, line supple, been on the reel for 5 or 6 days and haven't had the need to troll it out. As far as strength and knot holding, I catch barracuda on this outfit, enough said. Just can't justify using anything but trilene xl from now on, it's pretty cheap too.

  27. Young man, what you don't yet realize is that by the time your wife reaches the age of her mother, your testosterone will be shot, and you will not (overtly) care what she looks like. Likewise, your wife will overlook your pot-belly and your nasty farts. By that point in life you will have become close friends, instead of lovers. I love my best friend. We've been married for forty-two years,

  30. Last week, I purchased one of each Diesel Rod from Powell's website. There are three casting models: 705CB Glass, 723 CEF, 765 C, and one spinning model: 6103 M. I splurged a little, but as a Powell owner (all my rods are either Max or Endurance), I think that I just might be the right guy for the job, as I know exactly how their higher end rods feel and handle and will be able to note any differences. They should arrive this week, and I will be able to flex them out this weekend. Hopefully, I can post the review by Sunday night. Stay tuned for a FULL Diesel line review....... finally........

  35. I'm not sure about posting gear pics, I got beat to death just listing gear in a signature line. What do you mean beat up? You mean got hated on? If so, why do you care? Just remember, every hero has haters! Just tell em to put a tampon in it or get the sand out of their manginas! Anyway, good thread. I enjoy looking at the gear pr0n. I love that response. Steezy did take a pretty good beating, which I thought was unfair. He has always been very helpful to me when I had different questions on equipment. I guess some people just get jealous. One thing I just noticed. There is a thread running in the boating section where people show off there boats. Some of the boats posted are 40k plus rigs. Yet, not one person posts up nagging or complaining there. So Steezy, Bantam, The Natural and especially RedlineRobert, lets see some of your gear. If anyone feels compelled to whine about it, then whine to your mother. Because it doesn't belong here.
