  7. Well, last week I was up at Lake St Clair fishing. The fishing overall was excellent. Most of the fish we caught came of jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, or tubes. Saturday was the best day of Small and Large mouth fishing. We caught about 100 of them total that day. The other days were not even close to that except Tuesday when we got into the whites. That was just crazy. Every cast was a fish in several areas with 20-30 following the hooked fish. Here are a couple good smallie pictures.

  8. Man, that's weird. I have never heard of anyone breaking a spool, let alone two on one outing. I really can't even imagine how a spool would break while fishing.

  9. Raider, I am sorry to hear of the loss of Grandpops. This may sound strange, but the fact you feel the loss of your grandfather the way you do tells me he was a man blessed with the love and admiration of a grandson. Take the fruits of the relationship with Grandpops and pass it on. I lost my grandfather in 1976 and still miss him deeply. I lost my dad in 1998 and miss him every day. The fact we miss those we love shows how they were and are still a part of us. Thanks for sharing that piece of your life. We all have more in common than just a little green fish.

  10. Fish in ponds are very sensitive to their surroundings. If you're dressed in bright clothing or make a lot of noise you can shut them off pretty easily. Lots of pressure on a pond can make it very difficult also, sometimes even moderate pressure can do it. Most of the ponds I fish have certian baits that just catch them so you may have to fish lots of different baits until you find "the" bait in that pond.

  12. if bullfrogs were as big as german shepards, humans would be endangered! they will attack anything which resembles a worthy meal! i caught one so big in my early teen years on a snag proof frog that barely fit inside a 5 gallon bucket..fished a lily pad cove that i would run down to as soon as the car pulled into the cabins, cast the frog out with high hopes of a huge bass from reading the old snag proof mail order ads in the back of field & stream magazine. was so proud that i caught it,grabbed a bucket off the dock at the vacation house and showed it to my dad and neighbors and they were stunned at the size of it ..

  13. I finally had some good fishing on Leesville Lake. Got in 5 hours and top 5 went 9lb 2oz.. In all honesty... only caught 5... all on a Caffeine Shad in Smokey Shad. Back out in the morning to Leesville and then catfishing Saturday in the Staunton.

  14. Hey man, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. My grandfather passed in the fall of last year, my grandmother the fall of this year. Needless to say, it was and still is tough on my dad. I didn't know either of them well enough to really feel anything, I saw them maybe once every two years, and both were expected. Just remember all of the good times you had with him and strive to be what he was to you to your kids and grandchildren.

  15. I too sold off all my other reels and now only own the Curado E series. They are great reels after upgrading the drag washers and bearings. They get the job done at a fair price. I'll admit there are other reels I want to buy, but I think what's keeping me away is the fact that I can break these reels down thoroughly when cleaning. A Core would be nice, but 2 Curados to me is even better.

  16. It could just be off days for fishing or bad luck. As we all know some days are just skunks for the most part and bites are few and far between and you can never hone in on a pattern cause its so random. A lot of times on a pond I can tell how good a day it is by the action on the surface. If you see tons of blow ups or all those little ripples next to the bank where they are pushing the fry then fish are fairly active and you should be able to catch a few. People say pond fishing is easier but that all depends on the pond. If you can come to my house and slay them at my pond and even more do it on a off day then you can flat out catch them any where.

  17. I am pleased to report that I indeed have a Man Cave. It's an 8'X10' room that is accessible only through the garage. I'm not going to post pictures because it looks as if someone threw a hand grenade into the room. But it's MINE, ALL MINE!

  18. I would try and throw smaller baits like grubs or bettle spins, something different...you have to get a fish by "inticing them."

  20. This is a good point to talk about. Maybe they do seem dumber in a farm pond or lake but it's simply a bass being a bass in an environment that allows them to be that, a fish that isn't conditioned to factors that aren't natural...boats, jet skis, constant pounding and pressure...etc. So while it may be a bigger "deal" to catch a big, trophy bass on a big reservoir with tons of anglers and pressure, that doesn't necessarily make you a big, bad angler....just lucky to be in the right place at the right time if we're talking about a 7 plus pound bass......it's just easier to be there at the right time and place on farm ponds and lakes. I've seen many a day when the farm pond wouldn't produce fish either so it's not always a cake walk... Long story short, if you have pics of a 10 pound bass that you caught on a farm pond and your buddy who fishes tournaments and owns a $60,000 rig doesn't.....well, you still have the biggest fish I love fishing big lakes and farm ponds and I'm proud of all of my big fish so be proud of yours no matter where it comes from.....fishing is fun!

  21. I fish a private lake several times a month, and most days it is just as hard as anywhere else. You still have to find the fish. Just because it is a private pond doesn't mean there's a golden platter where you just grab your limit of lunkers and go on home... I just don't understand why folks would say don't brag about what you catch at a private pond. What a load of crapola. If I catch a twelve pound bass in a lake, river, farm pond, private pond or out of the tank at BPS itself, I'm happy as heck I caught it, somebody's gonna hear about it. My avatar will show a pic of it and it beats any bass that weighs less than it no matter where it's caught... Anyone saying otherwise is just one of those 'sour grapes' type of person.
