  1. I understand your point, whereas I wouldn't drive that fast myself in a boat. But overall, I greatly enjoyed the experience, learned a lot of different techniques and made new friends..

  2. Here are 2 spinnerbaits I just did for a local angler, the both are a pattern called "Pink Shad", these were made for stained water. Both a 1/2oz baits but I thought it was neat to see how different blade configurations make one bait appear to be larger than the other. The bait on top is 1/2oz with a size #6 indiana blade as the main and a size #3 colorado blade as the secondary. The bottom bait is also a 1/2oz but it has a double mag willow configuration with a size #5 mag willow as the main and a size #4 mag willow as the secondary. Both configurations are intended for slow to moderate speeds with heavy vibration.

  3. Hi All, A friend pointed me here (TheKingFisher), thought I'd say Hi. I live in DC, work in Rockville, and do most of my fishing in MD, from shore and in kayak. It's good to have a forum with locals, hope to contribute something to help someone else.

  4. C&R Bass Season doesn't open up until April 28th. Today's weather included about 1" of snow/sleet/slush. Weekend's forecast is for cold beer and warm house. 90% chance of a shopping trip to North Star on Saturday!

  5. I' sorry if I seem out of line here but why do you want the rod more moderate for jerkbaits? Jerkbaits are a close second to spinnerbaits as both are favorites for me and after a long time fishing them I have what I feel is a great set up but I have tried soft rods and it is so hard to work a bait with one it seems hardly worth it. I fish a jerkbait pretty aggressive in warm water and I'll do it in cold water but I use long pauses and only short movements but I can change the way I use them but with a soft rod I found myself moving the rod a foot and the bait only moving a few inches because as I moved the rod it would flex as the bait would move so half of the time the rod would flex rather than the bait move. For making long sweeps and stops it was ok but other than that it was really hard to fish and that is why I use a fast action rod but I recently found a moderate fast rod that had a tip more like a fast action rod that allows me total control over the bait yet still flexes when hooked up and applying pressure. I'm just curious if you have used a soft rod for jerkbaits or is it something you want to try, because that is a good rod that you may end up making it a bad rod. I suggest if you haven't fished a jerkbait on a truly moderate action rod that you try it on a moderate rod befor transforming the GLX, you may like it but you also may end up not caring for it, either way it would be worth your time considering the cost involved.

  6. In the DFW area the bass don't ever spawn - the females are too stuck up and the males all get hookers...

  7. 9lbs,1oz on a jig/Baby Craw (last week-PB). Actually, all 10 of my top 10 biggest fish have been on a Rage Tail of some sort.

  9. I think both because she hadn't spawned as of yet... tail not bruised or raw. The water was clear, 68 degrees, 6 and 7ft is easily shallow enough for bedding but she was in ambush mode. Pitched the Rooster to a cutoff telephone pole at the end of a rocky point. It was an instant Rip'n'Run to deep water so she was eating for sure! I kind of like big bellies... reminded me of my own... maybe I need to spawn too Big O www.ragetail.com

  10. No doubt, the details described above regarding the high-speed boat rides you folks went on seems exciting to read about. Although you did not address it directly, it should be. Pont of interest, the operator of any vessel is responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and the safety of all passengers in that vessel. Participating in a fishing Tournament does not relieve the operator of this responsibility. If an operator cannot avoid a collision with anything, a boat or something else, he/she is at fault. You must maintain control of your vessel at all times. You cannot blame someone else. Sounds like the operators of both of the boats described are disregarding this. I’m certain none of these competitors is looking to injure/kill anyone but operating the boat in the fashion described, with a passenger who does not have the ability to maintain a safe position in the boat is selfish, irresponsible and could be considered criminal. Wouldn’t it make sense to outfit these boats sufficiently to ensure the safety of the passengers; a second console, better hand holds whatever it takes? They do a great job at taking care of the bass with very functional live wells to ensure the fish arrive unharmed, this same consideration must be afforded to the folks they’ve invited to participate in these events. Why are we accepting this level of disregard for safety? It’s not funny, it’s embarrassing. A-Jay

  16. Here the strongest argument about this dilemma between mounting or not is this, it has nothing to do with you being right or wrong, caught legally it´s yours to do with it whatever you want, one of the things I like about fishing and practicing C&R is that the chances of you recatching that fish later is that you may catch it bigger than before, you have it mounted well, it ain´t gonna grow larger mounted on the wall.

  22. what Road Warrior said is right on... I fish a lot of ponds so I'll tell you a few things that worked for me... lets start with the Senko... before you leave the pond fish it in all these ways... Weightless, or small split shot above worm. (tx rigged).. with the reeling and twitching method.... then same rig and fish it like you would a worm.... next, and I've had some monsters on the line with this technique... Throw out the senko on a dropshot rig.... just let it sit there for a few minutes ... watch the line... they will bite it in a lot of situations just deadsticking it... then fish it normally on a dropshot rig.... Next, you can fish it wacky rigged on a dropshot.... And also be sure before you leave to fish it on your weightless or split shot rig (wacky style).... These fish might be pressured and the wacky or dropshot technique may work........ One of the best lures for a pond is the zoom fluke....watermelon green... put a small split shot above the lure...twitch twitch reel method... like you are walking the dog... A good spinnerbait is a necessity... like the Terminator... or War eagle... and fish topwater early and late... I'd go with a Pop-R... it's smaller and puts out a lot of action... Be sure to buy some blue fleck powerworms fished tx. rigged... it's my #1 big fish catcher in ponds... And also a lot of ponds have a lot of crawdads in them... be sure and try these out... my favs are Paca craw, chigger craw, and gene larew salt craw... Fish them Tx. rigged and you should have a lot of success.... Last but not least when the fish are shallow and you have to go thru a lot of weeds.... Use a technique my Dad used to boat a 8 lb. bass.... fish weightless Tx. rigged with a worm....just reel slowly and crawl the lure along the top of the water...... it works great in the summer..... If I had to choose 3 lures only... no doubt it would be these lures.... powerworm, fluke, senko

  23. These are all good bait/lure suggestions especially the senko/ika. To maximize whatever bait you use study the detail of the pond for spots that will attract and hold bass. The spots will be much like a bigger lake but may be much more subtle. In a pond, a 6" to 1' depth change can be important. All things are relative. Concentrate on the inlet, outlet and dam or dyke. Weedlines and any islands, points or pockets. Drag a heavy jig or C-rig around the pond feeling for brush, rocks, weeds and channels. Make note of where they are concentrate your casts to these targets.

  25. I was at my local Walmart the other day and thought I'd check out the fishing section. The fishing section is all on one aisle, but it has received some new products. They have the Abu Vendetta rods and some nice Quantum's now, but the rods are shoved in with the regular rods and are very packed. Unless Walmart adds another aisle the rods will be getting thrashed there. They also added some Skeet Reese,Shimano reels, and some better tackle boxes too. I really hoping they will redo their terminal tackle section with a better selection of Owner and Gammy's. For the most part, my Walmart as of yesterday is totally worthless for a smart bass angler. -b

  26. For those of us boat challenged are there any ponds that are accessible around Edmond\Guthrie that hold bass?? I'm new to the area and have no idea how to find access to ponds, etc. I have fished Lake Guthrie with no success thus far. I have been told that there are lots of private ponds around here but it's a case of knowing either the owner or fishing with someone who has permission to fish these ponds. Being the new guy does have it's drawbacks... Thanks...
