  1. I finally got it, my first bass boat. It's an 1983 18 ft hydra sport x 270 with a 150 evenrude, has hot foot two fish finders, and came with a ranger trailer lol. The only thing it needed was carpet, I only paid 1100 dollars for it as it run great tell me what y'all think. http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/0e847c8d.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/bad80fbe.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/c17a5003.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/5ea51039.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/00f0233d.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/fd94c6d9.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/eff29e88.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/d4d35bfb.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/d2ab8f3b.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/6f7930d3.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/842ec828.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/ff77c895.jpg http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q529/bassmasster29/be0af5cd.jpg

  2. What they dont know wont hurt them.... Mom thinks i have 3 or 4. She missed the other 4 that snuck through the door into hiding As to lines- I have to agree with the above posts. Flipping and jerkbaits are two complete polar opposite techniques. For flipping, i use 50-65 lb braid on a 7'5" heavy flipping rod. For topwaters, its 12 lb mono or copolymer on a 6'6" medium rod. Sort of like comparing apples and oranges... Now if you were flipping extrememly sparse vegitation with no wood or docks in sight, than maybe you could get a away with 17 lb copolymer. The best idea would be to first load your reel with 30-50 lb braid. If you are flipping, just fish with braid connected to your lure. Now if you want to fish jerkbaits, add a 3-5 ft leader of mono or copoly and then tie this to the jerkbait. As long as you dont hoarse the fish around, you should be able to get away with using this for the jerkbaits.

  3. I usually leave them in the bag and use a 10/0 extra wide gap hook texas rigged in the bag But seriously, one of the reasons to have soft plastic baits is to have a lot of movement in them, you'd be defeating the purpose if you didn't let it have as much action.

  4. I'm just saying light line doesn't necessarily make the rig ultralight.

  5. It isn't really. The difference is that an ultralight is typically something that just doesn't have any lifting strength in the blank. They are usually much, much too light to manage a fish of any size other than crappies, or panfish of other sorts. A dropshot rod, by character has some lifting power in the butt, it's got some strength to move fish. I think the lightest rod I fish with any regularity is my SMR750S. That rod is wicked powerful, more than many mediums. It's got enough power to move riverine brown fish up to about 3.5lbs with no issue. I love that rod for fishing grubs and the like on clear lakes. If it were any lighter, though, it would be a push.

  6. I will do it in places where the chances of me hooking a big bass aren't high so I can enjoy playing the smaller fish more. Was doing this in a small pond and hooked up with a 22lb flathead catfish on a Yo-Zuri Aile Killifish crankbait (1 1/8" I think?) with an ultralight and 4lb test. Took forever to get that thing landed!

  7. Yep. I still have a couple of 5'6" pistol-grip rods that I use when I'm in tight quarters i.e. overhanging tree branches. I fish almost exclusively from shore and they come in handy in a lot of places. Tom

  8. Now that my local Walmart has them, I am going to have to go down and grab a few for banging around the truck/pond hopping rods. I get a little squeemish tossing my avids and legend tournaments in the jeep and heading down a dirt trail to the pond, so much so that I have not done much fishing in our ponds the last few years, I kinda miss it.

  10. whats the point of using a fluoroleader, or any leader for that matter, on a drop shot if your hook is still connected to the main line? sounds like it defeats the purpose. in fact, and maybe im ignorant here, but whats the point of a leader on a drop shot at all? i just use my main line and leave a long tag end for the weight. of course i use mono for everything except for one reel that has 17lb fluorocarbon on it...
