  1. Story from Chicago Tribune: ESCANABA, Mich.— Participants in a Michigan charity ice fishing tournament brought home a different kind of fish tale. The Daily Press of Escanaba reports only one fish was caught by the more than 400 kids and adults participating in this weekend's Jig It Ice Fishing Extravaganza at Escanaba Yacht Harbor in the Upper Peninsula. Big Brother Big Sisters of Delta County sponsored the fundraiser and Jason M. Pepin of Escanaba had the lone fishing success during the competition. The perch he caught weighed 4.5 ounces and netted a $3,000 first place prize. The group's executive director Tanya Schuster says some people reported seeing fish swimming in the water, but they weren't biting. Schuster says the event to help fund area mentoring programs is "more fun when you do catch fish."

  5. Yep, roll your own. If you don't want to cast lead Stamina (lurepartsonline) has good heads, skirts, etc. I have caught multiple hammer handle to 20 pound pike and a few muskies on Stamina heads, no issues. I'm not sure about shipping to SA. I also started putting a zip tie over the skirt collar. The skirts last longer that way.

  6. I make my own and have never had problems with normal use and abuse. Terminator makes some good baits with the titanium arms.

  7. Two 24v trolling motors. He can probably ditch the transom mount TM and two batts when he gets the OB. That would save a lot of weight, and improve performance.

  8. Daiwa Sol/Alphas would be the easy bet. If you've got a bigger budget, Pixy or PX68 would do even better.

  9. No, the StructureScan ducer is entirely separate. You will need two 2D sonar ducers. The typical setup is a 2D sonar ducer on the trolling motor, a 2D ducer as shoot-thru in the back, and a StructureScan ducer mounted on the transom or jackplate. With your units Ethernet-linked, both units can read your StructureScan ducer, but of course when viewing it at the bow unit, the view is from the back of the boat where the StructureScan ducer is. Each StructureScan will only support one ducer, so another option is to get a second StructureScan and have it's ducer on the trolling motor along with the 2D ducer.

  14. The Crucial will be perfect for your jigs. The A-rig will be a bit heavy but you should still be fine as long as you don't get too carried away trying to fling it out there.
