  1. Just to let you guys know I'll be out around the UCF/Lake Mills/Econ area on Saturday and I'll let you know if I start seeing any progress in terms of bedding bass. Last time I was out I didn't even find any bed, but the fishing wasn't to bad thanks to some staging bass.

  2. Hi, I just wanted to share with you an update regarding the Val Monte Resort, which you have targeted for your 2012 Roadtrip to Lake Guntersville. I drove around the resort and marina yesterday afternoon just to scope it out first hand. The motel, the resort restaurant and the marina were all closed. I'd planned to talk to someone at the marina and get a sitrep regarding the renovation status but that was a no go. Everything looked in great shape and ready to roll but there must still be some inside work remaining before they're back up and going. The big "Top of the River" Restaurant next door to the motel was open. I just spoke with one of the ladies at the Marshall County Convention & Visitors Bureau regarding the place. I told her the website was down and the listed phone # was no longer working. That surprised her so she checked for me and gave me the email address for the place: valmonte7001@gmail.com . She did say that there was a big WalMart FLW Tournament scheduled to be held out of there in February so her understanding was that it would be all back up and going prior to that tournament next month. So that's some good news for everyone. So I would think they'll be back up and going contact-wise real soon, and everyone here on the forums will be able to confirm plans for the April roadtrip. However, there are other good places to stay, such as the Lake Guntersville State Park and the Best Western (straight across the lake from Val Monte), in case this might not work out but I'm sure it will with all they have planned for this Spring. If I find out anything more I'll be sure and post it. Best regards, Jim

  3. Just because you did not see what you wanted to see does not mean we did not give a good advice. The response you get are from folks who have been using braid for quite sometime and give you answer based on experience and not hear say. If you are really concern on what fish can see then get yourself this book… It's a good book for picking up lure colors depending on depht and condition of water which you can also apply to your line.

  4. Pffft! Lip service, LOL. I prefer CXX for jerkbaits. 10# works fine, and gives you enough diameter for abrasion insurance. It seems to not drag the bait under, or maess with the action too much. My buddy uses Triple Fish fluoro with his jerkbaits. He has no issues with getting bit, LOL. He believes that in clear water it helps because the fish get a long look at the bait. He won't use a snap for the same reason. I always ask him how hooks fit into that theory, but he just laughs, and catches.

  5. Healthy, what is healthy, lol. I can't think of anything other than fillet the fish, cut in chunks, deep fry with Shore Lunch eat it with some hot sauce and cole slaw. Dammit, now I am hungry.

  6. There can't possibly be anything left resembling a fish with all of that on it and certainly nothing healthy.

  7. The problem and possible causes you are describing simply don't make a whole lot of sense. To begin with, the use of fertilizer along the shoreline should provide the nutrients plant life needs without the use of sewage. Unless the bottom of the waterway has been recently dredged, it should already be fertile enough to support the weed growth it used to support. I suspect that what you are witnessing is the excessive use of weed killer by waterfront property owners. Your best bet would be to buy a Canadian license and start each trip with a boat ride to where the weeds are.

  8. There are a lot of places where you can launch cartop boats, or boats in the bed of a pickup but do not have parking for boats with trailers. I love fishing out of the Bass Hunter our daughter has in the small pond behind her house, but I'm not sure how comfy it would be for two fishermen. I don't know what it is like in a slop because the pond is so small. It is indeed very stable, but I don't think I'd like to get caught in a blow, if I was any distance from the launching area. For an all around small boat, a jon is tough to beat. They are fairly light, and easy to load into the back of a pickup. It's not as stable as a Bass Hunter/Pelican style "boat", but I think I'd prefer it if I got caught in a windy situation. One caution about a jon. Some of them are light gauge aluminum. As much as possible avoid concrete ramps or rocky beaches. It doesn't take much for an abrasive surface to wear through the v stiffeners on the bottom of the hull. Been there, done that.

  9. Jigfisherman, you were right on the money with the fix. I must have done something wrong the last time I tried the fix because I didn't get the menu option of Languages. It's now fixed. Thank you.

  10. I am a newbie here.....first post!! I had a 12 ft Montgomery Wards Jon Boat and loved it for 15 years. Finally sold it and got a 15 foot canoe. I wish I had my Jon Boat back! I am going to keep my canoe but I am looking for a 10 ft. Jon Boat. I don't like to "trailer" a boat.....been there....done that with a 14 ft. Crestliner. Just too much trouble for me in my beyond 60 years of age life! Go with a 12 ft. Jon Boat and you will probably be well-pleased. I also have my eye on getting an Ocean Kayak! But I will keep my canoe and .....if I get a 10 ft. Jon....I will keep ;that too!! Tight Lines!!

  12. Maybe I misunderstood. It wasn't working as per my post above. Then I discovered it was working on other sites. Then I reread the first post, right-clicked and clicked something else and now it works here.

  14. For the most part, wider and longer is preferable to shorter and narrow. Unless you have significant storage issues, a trailer is preferable to loading and unloading it out of the back of your pickup every time you want to go fishing. Wider + longer = weighs more. You might want to look at some kind of a pond boat, like a Water Buster or Pelican or something like that. They are much more stable and comfortable than a 12'jon boat.

  16. I have a Chevy Silverado 2500 hd ext cab long bed and it has no problems hauling a 12' boat. With the gate down the bed is 10' long. You'd be able to haul a 14' boat no problem as long as it was a narrow boat. As far as the load I'm not sure, It may help us decide if you'd post some pics of your 104# fiancee... Just kidding

  17. I second tinboats.com, they can probably give you a better idea of what to look for. A ton of info over their about jon boats. Why no trailer? you can probably find a used one for 200. would make offloading way easier and after a few trips it will probably seem well worth it.

  18. Wider is better for stability. The 12 foot would probably fit better into the back of your truck because I believer the extended cab trucks have a 6.5 foot bed. The 14 footer would hang more than half off the back.( not including tailgate) 12' boat weights 87lbs and the 1436(wider) only weights 117 lbs. I personally would never buy another boat that is less than 48'' on the bottom, which neither tracker topper is. JMO Jeff PS> check out tinboats.net LOTS of great ideas and knowledgeable people!

  19. Pitch cast and roll cast. As you thumb the spool to a stop, you'll feel the rod load a bit. Normally, you like to have that resistance, and "hook" the bait in the air so that it hits theh water running. But when you need stealth, use "soft hands," and keep the rod at an angle to the landing, and let the rod dip as you thum spool at the end of the cast. It should feel like you dropped the bait from 2" over the spot where it lands.

  22. I prefer Lowrance units, however I have had a moisture problem with them. I believe most moisture problems are due to mounting location and maintenance/storage issues rather than brand name.......................Al
