  1. Hey Dan did LSU looked like the belong in that game at all? And thanks for bringing that up how do we know we know which is better out of OSU, Houston, Bama, or Bosie State? Go ahead and talk about strength of scheduler and who lost to who and blah blah blah. This is sports anything can happen. Even the best teams loose games they shouldn't and one of the things that make sports great is when the little guy takes out the big guy. Think of some of the greatest moments in sports (USA vs. Russia in Olympic hockey) or (Texas Western vs. Kentucky Basketball 1966) these where truly great games because the team that had no business being there won. Sure on paper Bama was unstoppable, so where the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA finals and look what happen. The only reason I had OSU was because with the BCS system they where the only other team who had a chance who also matched Bama's record. I just want to point out that I am taking nothing away for Bamas team or fans. I don't doubt Bama played there heart out and they beat LSU fair and square. I'm just saying that you guys got a second lease on life because some media guys voted for you, which seems like a lame way to get into a National Title game and why the BCS is ********. OSU, Houston, and Boise State won their conferences and becasue of that deserved to be the only teams eligible to play again'st LSU in a Nation Title game. Capt.O

  2. I don't always dropshot, but when I do, I choose Dos Equis. Roboworms, Shad Shaped Worm, Gulp! Alive minnows and Leeches, and 4" Powerworms have all caught some trophy smallies for me.

  3. You can keep preaching that mentality, but you will remain in the minority. Think about it. You are sensing a bite. Sensitivity is what that's all about.

  6. I know you simply wanted us to try these baits, but you used the word "challenge" and to me that is like testing something or someone to extreme or at least pushing the limit. To me there is a difference in saying I challenge you to do something compared to simply suggesting to try something different or new. If you have so much confidence in these baits, which I believe you do and for good reason, then why would you not test yourself under pressure to make sure you gave something your all, just as Big O does with these baits. To simply ask someone to try these baits will only yeild a half hearted attempt in my opinion. I challenged myself to try something new, I pushed myself under a condition outside of my comfort zone I was not used to and made myself think, and I came away a better fisherman because of it. So I say Thank you RW for using the word challenge.

  8. Yeah....if all you want to catch is small bass. I have found, where I fish, that when pike are around, the bass that do stay are the big ones. You have to sort through a lot of the pike, and bass action is not fast by any means, but when you do catch one, it's a good one. As for the A-rig vs pike, IDK how it will hold up. I am sure, well some what sure , that they can't bite it off. But catch enough of them on it and sure they will wreck it, but so will bass. Watching the FLW footage of the tournament where the A-rig was highlighted, one of the guys catching them good had his rig fall apart just from catching bass. Pike will probably accelerate the falling apart process.

  10. Corey, there are lots of ways to do it, you just have to jump in. Most hobby builders cut out a basic 2D blank on a band or scroll saw and cut the lip slot while the blank is still square. After that, shaping begins. Some prefer a belt or drum sander, a knife, etc. I use a Dremel sanding cylinder. Taper the nose and tail sections and round over and smooth out the edges until you get the finished shape. Ending up with a symmetrical bait is important and that means shaping baits is mostly about control. I mark off the tapers, do them with a disc sander, then mark off shaping "limits" on the top, bottom, and sides with a compass so I can control the hand shaping. If you don't mark it off, it's easy to be fooled into taking off too much or too little because you are shaping curved wood surfaces. The wood grain will also tend to fool the eye.

  11. Bass holing up under grass mats is usually something they do after a good front moves through and usually once they've begun the spawning sequence. Earlier last week was a good example of such a front but I'm not sure if they would've started spawing yet where you're fishing. If they haven't you'll probably find more fish in deeper water (not sure that's possible in the canals?). Picture this: The fish is on bed and a big front moves through. Since the urge to spawn has been set in that fish's mind they're not going to move out very far if they don't have to. This is when they hole up in the nearest clump of thickness with a prime target being matted vegetation on top of the water. Now look at it the opposite way. If they're not spawning their first inclination is to always move to deeper water so flipping grass mats doesn't make much sense. But again, it depends on the body of water you're fishing. Looking at your narrow canal I'd focus my attempts in the middle where the deepest water is most likely to be. There also may be a spot on the canal that has some change in contour. It may be a turn, a wider section, a spot with deeper water (even if only a foot), or anything that gives the bass something else to relate to. If the entire thing is, indeed, matted over with vegetation you may have few other options besides flipping. Technique-wise: I find that nearly all my bites come on the fall and for this reason I try to use as light a weight as I can get away with. Sometimes you need that 1oz weight but other times you can get away with something much lighter. This isn't usually the case when punching through grass mats...you need weight. In cold or post-front conditions it may take a couple hops off the bottom and allowing the bait to sit still for a couple seconds to entice a strike.

  13. Thanks Robert! Had the bass topped the Tennessee state record (14lb 8oz) I might have splurged on a bottle of Dom DeLuise ...but since it was only 8 pounds, it was the cheap stuff on New Year's Eve! (I know - it's Dom Pérignon)

  15. I don't see what the big deal is with this rig! Look, some top water baits have 3 treble hooks, there is a donkey rig which is two flukes on one line! I fish a double drop shot rig. And there is the crappie rig that has 3 or 4 hooks on one line! In Wisconsin we can have 3 hooks in any combo( 3 rods or 3 hooks one one line. So if you think the A-rig is unfair or unsports like, than all these other set up have been unfair and unsportsman like for a very long time. I am not trying to anyone mad just my 2 cents worth!

  18. Bluetooth is slow. Remember, when you hook it up via USB, you have to go to your phone and give permission for your computer to access your files, otherwise it won't show up on your computer. It's easy to do: once you're connected, just go to your phone and click the "USB Connection". It will ask if you want to give your computer permission. At least, this is how it works on my Android phone. If you have an iPhone, you probably need to buy something in order for it to work.

  19. I'll agree with Ish Monroe. That guy wouldn't be half as far as he is now without the way he can promote his sponsors. He shows that you don't have to always finish high to be pro fisherman. lol Shaw Grigsby because he loves and believes his sponsors AND he finishes well enough to usually be a name in the money. He has a great mix of personality, loyalty, heart, and talent. KVD has selling down because of performance. I honestly don't think i've ever heard him sound absolutely sincere when talking about how much he believes in a product. The man obviously does, or you wouldn't see him using out of the box strike king lures for the past couple classics and other elite tours. But he just doesn't act out the part to make it sound like he's truly in love with it.lol
