Question for RW, do you fish jigs on slack line or do you keep tension on the line so that you can feel the jig at all time?
As for myself, yes fluoro certainly transmits much better on slack line, but I can feel bites on slack line with braid. I keep my index finger on the blank at all times. Usually I see the bites though.
I enjoy helping a young person enjoy a wholesome hobby. How many reels do you have that need cleaning? I'll do two free for you if you pay the shipping and the regular member price on any additional, debit, credit, check or MO. Merry Christmas!

Fish the Little Pigeon in Sevierville/Gatlinburg. Look for access points near the bridges that cross it. This time of year it's going to be tough. Try finesse jigs with small trailers, trick worms weightless, small gold inline spinners, and/or senkos. Jigs and senkos in the holes, everything else in the riffles. In Bryson City, you can fish Fontana, which is an excellent smallie lake, but I would get a guide or some local advice.
I have to second the trash fish. This bait is amazing, it has become one of my favorite soft 6in swimbaits. Its not just a slow roll bait. The way the fins are there is alot of secondary action to the bait and it performs well at slower speeds.
Shoe goo + a couple of quarters as counter weights + felt tip is your solution. No need to cut or sand the butt end of the rod. The Shoe goo will hold the quarters pretty good. The best thing about this solution is that you can remove the weights without damaging the cork if you later decide to remove them by using a braid line to cut thru the dried shoe goo. You can use a scotch tape to hold them in place when while drying the Shoe goo.
I use Vanish Flouro and have absolutely no problems with it. Like already mentioned, 10lb test was really light for what you were throwing. Just like any other flouro you must change it out frequently. Be sure to use backing to save money. I like to use cajun red as backing because it makes it easy to see if you’re getting low. It is very easy to try and blame the line. You have to make sure you have everything set up properly and using the appropriate lb test.
These are very good - - quality is a little questionable though, unfortunately. Have caught a lot of fish on that bait!
Tight wiggle is a relative term....a lot of baits mentioned in this thread are not what I consider tight - certainly not RC 1.5's.
Speed Traps are also great.
I pay little attention to lip shape - - I fish square and round both in the heaviest cover I can find, and they'll both come through if you fish them correctly.
If you want to go the custom balsa route, the suggestions are endless, but I will give a here to the Big M "Marty's Charlie."
It's based on the old Charlie O design (one of the few rounded cranks that has a TRUE tight action). If you can find an original, they're equally as awesome, but they're very difficult to find. I sent an original to Marty, and his bait does a fantastic job at reproducing the action.
The original Charlie-O, or (and much more easily attainable) BigM's version of the bait.
original Charlie(urethane foam)
Marty's Charlies
Zoom WEC Deep Stumpy
Zoom WEC Z-Flat Coffin Bill - one of the finest clear-water flatsided baits you will encounter in life.
Any of the good Little Petey clones (this one's a Ron-E-Bee)
My own version of a mid-teens diver is actually my favorite deep diver.
This bait is compact, flat-round hybrid, casts very well, cranks very easily, and can bust almost 18' if you know what you're doing.
