  1. Do you want fish in the live well or worms in the tackle box? I pay $6.69 for 10 Senkos or 20 bass I’ll happily accept 1 or 2 fish out of any piece of plastic

  2. Briery 1, Us 0! We tired everything the tackle box, but nothing. Left around noon and went to Sandy after lunch. Caught six there, biggest being 4+. Still had a great time visiting the famous Briery Creek. I will see her again...soon.

  3. Brandon, welcome to bass fishing. I have been bass fishing for about 6 decades, a very long time. Soft plastics (rubber worms) started to be popular about the same time that I was learning to bass fish and became the most reliable and successful artifical lure made to date. Here are 10 of the techniques every bass angler should learn to rig. 1. Texas rig; bullet shape weight that is free to slide on the line above a plastic worm style hook. 2. Florida rig; same as the Texas rig, except the bullet weight is pegged agianst the hook. 3. Carolina rig; egg shape sinker that is free to slide on the line and stopped by a swivel above a length of leader line and hook. 4. Split shot rig; round split shot clamped on the line above the hook. 5. Slip shot or finesse C-rig; cylinder shaped weight free to slide on the line, stopped by a pegged glass bead above the hook. 6. Drop shot rig; bell shaped sinker tied to the end of the line, the hook tied directly on the line above the hook. 7. Shakey head jig; ball head jig with worm keeper. 8. Dart head jig; small bullet shape jig head. 9. Spider jigs; Hula grub with single or double tail. 10. Senko's; heavy salted fat bodied stick worm. You rig the above techniques on any type of bass rod/reel combo, however casting outfits are typically used with line size 10 lb or heavier, spinning reel/rod for 10 lbs or less. Line weight should be selected to match the worm & hook size and type of cover you plan to fish. T/F-rig,C-rig, spider jig and Senko's can be used with 10+ line and popular with bait casting outfits. Split, slip, drop shot rig, shakey head jig, dart head jig, are more popular with lighter line; 5 to 10 lb and spinning outfits. Search around this site for rigging and presentation details. Colors are trail and error for each lake and seasonal period. Natural green or brown tones with red, black or purple flakes are always good. Shad colors like translucent smoke with silver, red, black or purple flakes can be good if the lake has shad bait fish. Hooks and line are very important when fishing soft plastic worms; use premium worm hooks and line. If you are interested in any of the above techniques, ask questions regarding them and we can reply in detail. My advice; learn to fish plastic worms when the bass are more active, then you can fish them more effectively when the bass are less active. Tom

  4. I spoke with a Pure Fishing rep several weeks ago about Havoc baits. Berkley has seen a diminishing market share with the Powerbait line and they sprung the Havoc series to meet a demand for value priced baits. It was a hype until enough consumers, at least tried the baits. I myself was some what skeptical but tried three baits. They all produced and earned their price tag and them some. This is one product that I can say, "don't knock it until you have tried it." It's no miracle bait, just another viable option.

  5. It's a very different plastic than is being used by other companies. The Pig and Skinny Dipper look somewhat similar, that's where the similarity ends. The Grass pig moves better, it comes through slop better, it has more belly roll, it's softer but more durable. Thus far, all of the Havoc baits I've used are far more durable than competitors. The Deuce isn't just another twin tail, either. It's got a solid rib on the back of the legs tapering all the way to the ends, it's got more action, harder swimming with more spring back to being curled than other baits. It also has more of a body taper allowing the entire bait to undulate more. Call them similar by looks, that's fine, even reasonable. What's not reasonable is to judge them before getting your hands on them and giving them a shot. You'll likely be very surprised by them; I have been.

  6. cheap prices, and the potential to be sold in many chain stores (like wal-mart). I think that was berkley's game plan, which is a solid one I might add.

  8. Just throw a top water frog on 65 lb braid and play him for about 5-10 minutes. The near death experience will make him stay away from boats. Oh by the way , you will lose your frog. Brute

  9. http://dponthefly.blogspot.com/2011/05/its-pickin-up.html This river is, at it's widest, is as wide as a road in your neighborhood. I've fallen in a pool that is 5.5' deep and that's the deepest pool we found on this river. Little rivers/creeks are some of the best waters around since they are often overlooked. Check the rest of that guy's blog out, pretty cool stories about carp from flooded yards, random Largies in a trout stream, he's nutty for warm water fly fishing.

  10. Had a pretty good weekend out. Was up in Maine with the Wife's family and fished from sun up to sun down Friday, Saturday and Sunday until about 5pm. Hammered them. Caught another 5lb Smallie, as well as a Bucket in that weight class. Caught more fish than I can count. They're still on beds up there so it's like shooting fish in a barrel. But d**n is it fun! Monday I fished Contoocook Lake, in Jaffery as well as Potanipo Lake for some time. Fishing at both was sub par to say the least. Caught only 6 Buckets between two of us in about 4hrs, and only 4 Buckets at Potanipo in about 1.5hrs. We ended the day at Franklin Pierce Lake, the lake was really busy. A lot of cruising boats tubing, water skiing, etc. As well as a ton of sailboats and jet skis. We fought through the chop and ended up catching about 20 fish, mostly Smallies in about 6hrs of fishing. Some were good sized, but I believe that lake gets a lot of pressure. And with all the boats on the water I'm sure it had them quite finicky. Anyone confirm on the amount of pressure there? Overall, pretty good weekend full of fishing! How did you do? I'm still trying to figure out how to put pictures on, once I do I'll update.
