  1. The opeing of the Morganza spillway is going to create a major problem in Louisiana. Last night my wife and I went to dinner with two LSU friends visiting Richmond for our crawfish boil and they showed us photos of the powerful Mississippi at the LSU campus and the water level is about 20 feet from the top of the levee and rising about 9-inches a day. I used to fish some of the areas that will be flooded and there are some nasty animals that will be heading to high and dry ground, i.e. houses, barns, sheds, etc. so after the waters receed the locals will have their hands full of snakes, gators, possums, racoons, neutria, etc. I hope the fish population can survive those nasty Mississippi River waters with their chemicals and debris. I also hope the damage is not as severe as projected. You Louisiana guys keep us posted. Thanks. Geaux Tigers!!!

  2. Fish the banks rthat wind is blowing up on. You can either turn into the wind for boat control and fish reaction baits but casting will be a trial. If you have to fish jigs or plastics, shorter casts and heavier weights will help you feel a bite. You can allow the wind to blow you down a bank and cast ahead and use a drift sock to slow you down. Boat control is so much fun in the wind.

  3. I like a 7:1 for spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, jigs, most soft plastics, and most shallow cranks, but I'd choose a different ratio for deep cranks.

  4. There are lots of opinions on this...but IMO, 7.1 is too fast for deep cranks and heavy spinnerbaits, 7.1 is manageable (but not ideal) for medium cranks and spinnerbaits, and 7.1 works OK for shallow cranks. My opinion is primarily based on cranking effort. Other folks opinions will be based on speed of retrieve, with no consideration for cranking effort.

  5. None of my fishing buddies are into fishing as deep as i am, which is fine, but they can't bring much to the conversation. This is where Bass Resource saves the day. When i need to talk fishing, BR is where i'll be.

  6. As a member of the service industry, I'll put in my $.02... There are 8 of us mechanics on our road crew. We rotate in 8 week intervals for 1 week of "On Call" in which we have to be available to go where necessary at any time. My phone stays on 24/7/365, but that doesn't mean I'll answer it. I'll talk to one of my fellow techs at 3 am if need be, even if I'm not on call. He may not be familiar with something and I am. It works both ways. I will also talk to certain customers, mostly chief tugboat engineers and other guys like that whose safety depends on the equipment they're on. They remember things like that when I come on board to work. They'll hump heavy parts and make sure I get fed (Some of the best food I've eaten was on large tugs. Those guys don't play !) Caller ID is a beautiful thing. Another thing you may not be aware of, dialing *67 before you dial the number blocks your number from showing up on their phone. As a matter of fact, my phone rang today and it was the answering service looking for a callout. It's not my week so I ignored it. Simple as that. It's completely up to you whether or not you let a phone run your life. As for the rudeness factor, people were rude before cell phones and they'll find ways to be rude when the next technology comes along.

  8. You're new here. You'll soon see there are alot of brand loyal guys here. Don't get discouraged. Try different suggestions that people make and form your own opinion. Me, I have outdated Power Pro on a spinning reel but my baitcasters are spooled with Diawa Samuari. I use a flouro leader on everything but topwater, for reasons mentioned above.

  10. For $79 nothing beats the Pro Qualifier. I paid $99 for mine and I'd gladly do it again. Fantastic reel.

  12. Has anyone else realized the wide array of lures that all of these fish have come on? Topwaters Jigs Swimbaits Live bait Cranks Spinnerbaits Plastics I think this goes to show that catching a big fish has a lot to do with being in the right place at the right time, rather than having the "perfect" bait to make her bite. I think that a number of different lures would have caught the same fish given the same conditions, time of day, and her pure hunger.

  15. Ok lets be quite clear in what i was trying to say in the first post, im sure your all good readers right? It was never meant to be a put-down or a negative remark toward the admin or the site itself. I was just expressing my view on the layout. Its funny how a few of people that responded have been members for a shorter ammount of time then me. Dont worry though ill ask glenn send you guys the files in the old layout and you can upload them and browse around it yourself and then tell me which alyout you liked better. When i said "computer savvy" i wasnt trying to say the site was hard to navigate, the navbar and everyhting is well organized, and the drop down menus. I actually didnt mean comptuer savvy, i guess i shoudlve been "forum admin savvy". How many of you actually moderated or admind a forum? @Glenn - Im curious, you said the site costs thousands of dollars a month..Whats taking all of this loot? Im just wondering. Thats a pretty lot of cash to run a forum. @Sfritr - with all due respect, please dont use the word "outsider" you joined in april 09 sir, shouldnt be too excited
