What finish has worked best as far as corrosion resistance on hooks? I prefer the black nickel look but it seems that the red hook baits i have do not corrode nearly as much as the others. And forget about a bronze finish i swear those things get rust on them from the moment i first cast them out to the time i reel it back in.

And anybody got any tips on keeping rust off of the hooks. Someone told me to spray lightly spray the plano box i store them in with wd-40 and let it dry before i put the baits back in. But i am not sure if this is just an old fishermans tale or if it actually works.

Nickel is the best I've found and also wipe the hook off/let dry before putting it back in the box. Salt and a damp hook will start to rust them.

I put those little desiccant packs in my boxes to keep the moisture down also. There are companies that make boxes that are suppose to do the same. I think Zero Rust is one of them and Flambeau.

Nickel seems to be the best for as well. Keeping your stuff dry is the key. Hard to do when you're camping for a three day TX, and it rains all weekend. ZeRust lasts about two seasons, then you have to replace it. You can also get the little cartridges you add to the box.

Keep your main stash in original packages or ziplocks and in a container that doesn't leak (Tuperware).

For the things I am using on a given day or outing, Plano boxes are generally sufficient. I have never

had any problems with rust, but I don't fish in a kayak either!

I take my Plano 3600 or 3700 type clear boxes and drill a number of small holes in the bottom. This increases air circulation and prevents moisture from collecting in each slot.

That said, be careful on wet surfaces and don't just plunk down the box in the bottom of your boat where water has collected.

Have you seen these? http://www.basspro.com/Plano-HydroFlo-StowAway-Tackle-Boxes/product/10231459/230106

I really like those boxes for my treble-hook lures.

Nickle seems to be the best. The only time I've ever had with hooks rusting is when I open a Plano box while its raining and stuff gets wet. Otherwise, when I go to tie on a different bait, I usually but the one I had on in my cup holders or in a small pile on the floor down by the console. Every two hours or so I like to eat a small snack and while doing that I usually put away baits that I've cut off, by that time they usually are nice and dry.

I have had good results with the ZeRust boxes.

I have used the ZeRust boxes and also just used the tabs that you can buy to put in your plano boxes for an entire season now. I have no rust on any of my baits after a season and there was more than one occasion where my tackle got soaked and not promptly dried. For as cheap as this stuff is I am very happy with how well it protected my tackle last year.

I like a nickel finish on my hooks. I try and make sure my hooks and baits are dry before I put them away. I tend to leave baits out on the deck of my boat so they dry before I put them away. I also keep a small towel in my boat for lures that haven't dried before my fishing trip is over. I just quickly wipe them off before I put them away, and haven't had any issue with rusted hooks yet.
