so far i have just recycled old lures to do my pours. i want to get some plastisol. i was looking to get a gallon from caney creek(heard good things about it), but then i came across 2 gallons of calhouns for $46 shipping included. i heard that the calhouns isnt that good, so i was wondering since im new to this, if i should get the 2 gallons to mess around with, or should i just go with the caney creek?

I have used Calhoun's plastisol and it is fine. That is a good price. With 2 gallons you can make hundreds and hundreds of baits. Be sure to include some heat stabilizer and gloves when you make your order.

You may also want to check out Bear's baits before you make your final decision.

I use Calhoun too....it works great for me and I agree that is a really good price. He was also correct in telling you to get heat stabilizer and gloves too. The HS will make it so the plastice doesn't scorch and of course safety should be a concern, i.e. the gloves. That stuff is HOT and sticks to skin giving it a lot of time to do some damage to your skin.

I would also recommend getting some scent, glitter and color too...Bear's will have all that you need. Once you start...you're in trouble. You think you buy a lot of lures....wait until you see all your options when you make your lures!!!

I have used both and could not tell a big difference. For that price I would definitely go with the Calhouns. The HS is a must. The first couple of times I made plastics I did not use it and it was aweful. My wife put me on lure making probation for a month after burning that stuff. Good luck and have fun.

I wasnt fond of calhoun when I tried it a few years ago. I use MF now. I heard its changed. Anyway, on the colorant you need to order soft plastic colorant. Bear baits, caney creek, Lure craft all have good stuff. There are others out there that do too.
