jenga Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I have a 93 skeeter 200 dx and I recently bought a humminbird side imaging and was told to mount my main transducer above the water line and a shoot thru hull transducer. First I would like to know how hard it is to install the shoot thru hull transducer and is it something I should have done by a professional. Also does anyone know if the 93 skeeters have a spot already for the shoot thru hull transducer. Someone told me that most boats come with a spot already. thanks, jenga Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted February 21, 2012 Super User Posted February 21, 2012 Yes, I do know. First of all the SI transducer has to be externally mounted and it has to be BELOW the water. That "above the water line" you were told came from an idiot. Next; the supplied transducer is the "standard" for applications world wide. Your boat is not considered "standard", so due to hull design most put the SI transducer above the hull bottom and install a shoot-thru (XP 9 20) in the bilge for on-plane depth readings and 2D reading all the time. The two transducers are usually connected to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable. That set up is seen by the unit as a single SI tranducer--there are no settings to change and there is no "automatic" transducer selection by the unit. It is all done with the electrical connections in the Y cable. Yes most bass boats have a prepared thin spot in the hull for shoot-thru mounting, BUT you must test that location prior to adhereing the transducer to the hull if you want the best performance. Follow the included instructions. If you send me a couple of pictures of your transom at a level that shows the hull steps from the motor to the right side of the transom, I will edit it with the suggested mount location for the SI transducer and how to do it. purdum43@aol.com The pictures should be something like these: One size does not fit all so each hull brand can be different for the transducer location Quote

I put it in the exact location you told me to and it works fine. However, now I need the thru hull transducer so I can tell what depth I am in while on plane. I will send you some pictures of the inside of my hull when I get a chance. my boat is currently stored away and I wont be able to get it out for a few more weeks. BassnChris Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Forgive me for highjacking the thread.......but I am looking for some guidance on placement of the transducer for my humminbird 597ci hd di combo. The directions mention I might be able to mount it 'on' the step. I taped it into the location that I think is correct. Can you confirm or deny that I have placed it correctly?
