basslover12345 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 What's the heaviest/lightest rod and line you will use for finesse fishing? 1 Quote
Reel_Kaotic Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I set up a 6'6 med spinning rod with #15 braid w/ #8 fluoro leader. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 Most used lightest is 8' Med-Lt Moderate with 6# Nanofil. I have caught bass with 4'8" UL Mod rod but dont really target them just happen to catch them. Heaviest a 7' Med Fast 20# braid with senko--is that finesse?? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 There is no heaviest or lightest. You can finesse any lure you have. You can also power fish any lure you have. It's nothing more than a mindset and a way to present a lure. 1 Quote
I.rar Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 ive pulled in quite a few LM and peacock bass on a 6'8" light/fast 'trout' rod with 20/6 braid and 6# cxx leader. its my favorite rig to fish. Quote

It's nothing more than a mindset and a way to present a lure. Fishing is all about personal preference. My first thought about equipment is where am I fishing: shore or boat, conditions: heavy cover or open water. My personal preference for ALL BASS FISHING is nothing ever heavier than a spinning 7' 8/17 rod, 15# braid. I can throw just about any kind of lure or soft plastic on that set up, with the exception of heavier swimbaits. I would never throw heavy swimbaits for bass because I don't care to fish with a heavy rod. Call me stupid if you will but I want to use a heavy rod for heavy fish and a light rod for light fish, makes sense to me. I know people like a heavier rod to pull fish out of cover, I avoid those conditions if possible, I do not want to catch a 5# fish with 10# of weeds. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 My main rig for weightless soft plastics: St. Croix ES70MF/ Stella 2500FE/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Quote
basslover12345 Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 The reason I asked this is that I have read Roland Martins Book and he talks about finesse fishing with a flipping stick, so It made me wonder of anyone would flip with a finesse rod as a unconventional way of fishing like Roland talks about......... Super User J Francho Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 Like SoFlo said it's a mentality. Yes, light spinning gear is often employed mainly because the baits are sometimes too light to be thrown on anything else. Some presentations though, like finesse jigs can be quite bulky. : skillful handling of a situation : adroit maneuvering Quote
basslover12345 Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 Anyone ever finesse fish with 20 pound fluorocarbon? And has anyone ever tried 20 pound line on spinning reels? Quote

If I'm throwing an 8 inch swimbait on an 8 foot rod and 50# braid it doesn't matter how I'm fishing it, its not finesse. Also if I'm fishing a 1/8 oz shakey head on 6# line running and gunning its still finesse. Quote
