Al Wolbach Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Not sure about black Friday but I received an e-mail from BPS that advertized an Eagle color unit for $99 now, regular $169 I believe. I believe it was an Eagle Fish Easy 350 unit, you may want to check it out if that is price range you are looking for.................Al Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 22, 2011 Super User Posted November 22, 2011 I saw where 3 rivers marine was having a big sale. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 22, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 22, 2011 I just don't know a lot about them. I'd hate to get one & then find out I should have got another. Work is nuts now & I haven't had a lot of time to check them out yet... Quote
Al Wolbach Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I think your best bet is to visit a Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop or some other sporting goods store that sells all brands to compare the different models and makes to first figure what you want. You haven't or can't provide enough info for anyone to offer good advice. You could go to the manufacturers websites and read what they have to offer also. Good luck with your search..........Al Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 23, 2011 so as of now I like the Humminbird 570 DI but They arent a sponser what does Lowrance make that is equil in that price range...? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 23, 2011 Super User Posted November 23, 2011 Lowrance does not have a unit that is an equivelent down imaging and 2D sonar in any price range. To get the same functions with Lowrance equipment you would need two units. They have the DSI series that is Down Scan only. The Mark 5X DSI is the same price as the Humminbird 570 DI. Quote
lostinlocust Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 HB 798ci hd combo .....then you have it all..... why just get down imging ...when for another $250-300 you have it all, maps ,gps ,down and side imaging ....the 597 would be good for front of the boat ,but if had to get one it would be 798ci combo .....I seen a pic of a man under water ,you could see his body and air bubbles ....cool stuff ...have found some on line for around $850.00 ... getting mine after x-mas Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 29, 2011 Super User Posted November 29, 2011 Now, to put it on the boat or yack? Get an extra mount and TD, now it's on both. That's what I did with my unit. Works great, especially since I have my way points on both. Quote

BTW it's a SINK Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 29, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 29, 2011 Looks like the TD alone is $159! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 29, 2011 Super User Posted November 29, 2011 Looks like the TD alone is $159! Your issue is your hull construction no matter what transducer you have. If the material has a lot of bubbles in it for floatation, it won't work well as a shoot-thru. The supplied transom transducer can be used as a shoot-thru, as an external hull mount, or on a trolling motor. The round type of transducer is just that "round" and has the same limitations due to hull construction. The installation for shoot-thru application is the same as the supplied one. The XP 9 20 T would be the best (if your hull is suitable) for shoot-thru and have a water temp sensor. Quote

I don't think it's a "DI" transducer. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 29, 2011 Super User Posted November 29, 2011 I don't think that TD will work (looked but can't find it). I don't think it's a "DI" transducer. You are correct, I didn't go back through the messages to check the model you got. There is only one DI transducer made and it can be externally mounted on the hull, on a trolling motor, some holding device/bracket, or as a shoot-thru (if your hull material is suitable). Basically what you got is all that is available. The best way to tell if it will perform inside your hull is lay it in there with enough water to cover at least 1/2 of the transducer thickness, put some weight on it and see if you get sonar returns clearly. That is the same procedure for any craft. If it works fine, you can do the pool of water or mineral oil deal to put the transducer in or just epoxy the transducer to the hull in a locaton as close to center as you can get so rocking as you paddle will affect the images the least. Using the 2D function is not as critical as the Down Imaging for boat movement. Since the transducer has a built-in temp sensor, if you want water temp with a shoot-thru mount, you need to add the accessory temp sensor (TG W) Quote
