esoxangler Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Hope I'm posting this in the correct place.....I need to get your opinion. Do you feel that bass are more prone to take a spinnerbait with a silicone skirt, or do you think they would take a spinnerbait with marabou feathers just as readily? Reason I ask is that I plan on making my own spinnerbaits (as a hobby) and thought that maybe I would give the bass a slightly different look by using marabou instead of silicone, but if bass are attracted to silicone over marabou, I don't want to waste my time or money. (Or does it even matter?) Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 "Marabou" breathes similar to bucktail hair and is a very provocative material. However, marabou struts its stuff during pauses, and is better suited to jigs rather than spinnerbaits. Though I personally prefer "silicone" skirts to all else, there are those who still prefer latex skirts (rubber skirts). Roger Quote

Get the kind with a solid collar, not the little piece of rubber holding them togeter. These rot out pretty quickly and you'll be bringing in a bait with no Skirt. On the baits I have that have this type of skirt, I put a small wire tie around the skirt to prevent it from coming apart. Strike King perfect Shirts and Z-Man skirts are great. Terminator brand also. Lumaflex skirts were brought up in a video posted recently and although they do provide flash, they have no movement in the water when retrieved, at least what I have tried. Huh? They have a lot of movement. They "pulsate" underwater - moreso than silicon IMO. It's one of the primary reasons I use them. Quote
