I have a Quantum baitcast reel on a 6'6 medium action Quantum rod. Its my first baitcast reel and ive gotten pretty good using it. Im currently using Trilene XL 12 pound test line. I want to try braid but im not sure whats the best kind to start out with. I have a saltwater surf rod with 30lb test braid on it but its spinning gear. Also, should i lubricate when i tie my knots with braided line? Any answers would be gratly appreciated!

In short 50# Power Pro s my favorite I am using 50# 832 now but I think I liked the PP more.

Go with the Yellow and use a black marker to darken the last few feet like a leader.

I use L&L but tie dry knots

For a first and at decent price braid is Power Pro possibly. I'm using 50# PP for jigs and I'm trying 50# Sufix 832 for my frogging. I did like XPS if have a BPS near by. But if not if can find PP in walmart for cheap jump on it. I don't know any thing about the new PP 8 strands or whatever it is called. I for one always get mine in the Green color but the sharpie supposedly is the number 1 trick!

I don't think it's necessary to lube braided line to tie a knot. I pull both the main and tag lines at the same time, not too fast, using an ordinary clinch knot, when targeting bigger species improved double wrapped clinch. For me it's 10# braid freshwater and 15 or 20# braid saltwater. I'm happy with any brand on sale.............

Thanks for the input guys. I usually tie a polomar for everything. Its done me well. Never had a break off yet. Im starting to learn more knots though. Yea i feel like when you lubricate braided line it makes it weird. Like it stretches it or something. I noticed when i was fishing for fluke and flounder last week. I have 30# black braid on my saltwater reel.

FWIW.

Sufix 832 on my baitcasters. I tie on ~6' fluoro leaders for everything except frogs.

Fishing, no fiddling. Love it.
