Inflatible Inflator

As I've posted a few times before, I have a little Sevylor Fishmaster that I take out on a few Electric Only lakes here locally. Great boat, though the setup time can be killer.

Right now I'm using an Air Mattress inflater that plugs into a standard household wall socket and it works admirably - saving me the hours of pumping that occupied my first trip out. But now I've been fishing another local lake (Marrowbone, for you Mid Tenn Folks) where I don't have easy access to an electrical outlet at the boat ramp like I do other places.

Do you folks know of any good battery powered or recharable units? I had a battery powered mattress inflater from my camping days, but it didn't get me the air pressure in the bladders that I like to see. Am I stuck "hand finishing" with a manual pump or is there something better out there? I'm looking at this:

Walmart Tire Pump but I'm dubious that it'll actually get me any more pressure than the mattress inflater is.

If possible, I'd like to keep it under $30 if I can - savin' up to get the Jon Boat trailer fixed.

Battery operated leaf blower works great.

Hard to get any of the 12 volt pumps to push enough air to get above 1.5 psi.

A manual pump (K-pump or Carlson barrel pump) could have it filled in 5 minutes but they are pricy. A wonder pump will take about 10-15 minutes and are affordable.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll take a look at the one from Sears - I'm headed there tonight anyway for a new shovel. I'll look at leaf blowers while I'm at it. I'm curious how it works to actually connect it to the valve.

Dumb question, but my boat didn't come with an instruction manual when I bought it (used). What PSI should I be shooting for? Some of the pumps I've seen have had gauges to test it but I've never actually used one. I just go by "feel" and by the wrinkles in the canvas cover.

If it is going to be tough/expensive to get a battery powered pump to do what I need, I may stick with a cheap air mattress pump to do the heavy bulk then switch to a hand pump to finish to the PSI I need.

Most whitewater type rafts/pontoons usually require about 3.0 psi. I assume your sevylor would be in the 2.25-3.0 range. You will have to make a homemade fitting (or just cup your hand around the valve (I am assuming you have a "boston" style valve). Feel is good, just be aware that once full, it can expand even more when moved into the hot sun (or shrink if you place it on a cool water).

Air mattress pump and hand pump is the route I go, but I generally fill my up 90% of the way before leaving rather than onsite.

They match your boat with a pump that puts out 2.5psi the pump in my first post will do that. I couldnt really find the actual psi amount needed.

My boat has a ruler gauge and I fit a template over it, the boat fills and stretches to where the lines match to tell its full. My boat doesnt even require 2.5psi that pump will over-inflate by my gauge/template easily.

That one from Wal-mart in your first post might do the job. Best thing though is buying from them easy returns if it doent work, give it a try.

I tried the $25 Coleman rechareable one and it didnt work well so returned it.

The $25 Coleman didn't even inflate air mattresses to a comfortable pressure. I returned that as well.

I'll pick up one of the Sears pumps and give that a whirl (pun intended). Thanks for your help, guys!

It maybe a little more costly but it will be a heck of a lot easier.

Pick up a 20lb co2 tank. There are adapters and regulators available to just about anything you want. I have one setup is use to clean out servers and PCs at client locations. Much cheaper than those cans of dust off. A refill of a 20lb co2 is only $20. I also have one setup to inflate car and truck tires. this is must faster than any compressor out there.

with the three items below you can inflate anything you need. The are not mine just using as a source of reference. you can buy from any industrial supply.

Just turn the regulator output to desired psi put the blow gun, with mattress inflator, on valve and inflate. should inflate your boat in a minute.

and I bought one of these...... the deluxe model (what I got) let's you set the pressure to whatever you want. I hook it up after I get my aluminum floor in, set it, start it, then set up a rod while it inflates one chamber. It auto shuts off when full, so I simply switch to another chamber, and do something else while it fills up.

Eletric Pump

I either use the rechargeable battery built in to the deluxe model or just attach it to my battery I use from trolling. No more sweating my face off pumping up a chamber or even topping one off in 99 degree heat. It was a great purchase I think, really makes set up far less painful.

Your boat looks very nice to me if its getting the job done for you money might be best directed other areas.
