See Bass Follow Bait In Air

Any of you ever actually see a bass follow your bait, while the bait is in the air?

On my little local lake water clarity is pretty clear. Too, the bank is angled so at places my eyelevel is above the water 10-12 feet looking into the water and can see/spot bass very easily. Well this morning I switched from senko to nightcrawler. See a bass coming from the right so aim worm out farther and ahead to reel back in to meet the bass (well planned to) and as the worm was still in the air I clearly see the bass change direction(turn a bit right) speed-up right to the worm, no sooner did the worm hit water and the bass snapped it up.

Ive actually have seen this a number of times so just wondering if others have seen as well.

Yeah bass are predators and often look for little treats coming from above such as a frog, snake ect. Not suprising in fact I have heard multiple tales of bass coming out of the water,a nd grabbing a lure before it even hits the water.

I've had them catch baits out of the air skipping them under docks and tree limbs. Not really surprising since a skipping bait probably looks a lot like a skipping minnow or shad to the fish and once a baitfish is airborn it can't change directions like it can underwater so it's probably a fairly easy target for a fish.

I've had fish follow my bait back to the boat and jump out of the water to eat it as I pull it up. I've also had a lot of fish destroy my bait literally the moment it hit the water.

My PB actually was caught whenever my lure was almost 2 feet out of the water reeling it in. As i came out of the water i saw him come from under the dock i was on, open his mouth and jump out of the water and grab it. I literally jumped back after being scared and he fell on the dock. No setting the hook, nothing, just fell backwards and bam landed it.

Saw it 3 times. First time my son sets his pole down on a dock with a Zip lure about a foot above the surface while he starts casting another rod. A 2 lb smallie grabbed the Zip lure on the rod that was laying down. My son grabbed to rod before it went into the drink and landed the fish. Second time I had a rod with a Rapala hanging off the end sitting on the bow of the boat. While casting another bait had a bass jump up and grab the Rapala but he didn't get caught. Third time had a spinnerbait get looped around a branch about 2ft above the water. As I'm pulling the bait up and down to free it, a bass jumps out and grabs it. He didn't get caught either.

A bass came over the top on my topwater, brought it down under water, the lure sprang up about 2 feet in the air and while the lure started coming back down, a bass...not sure if it was the same one...nailed it about 6" above water. I was laughing so hard I almost forgot to set the hook.
