Wont they cut their losses with the whole...spending money on running these tests? Centers need to be set up, personnel to run it, lab fees....seems like more wasted spending to me

guess who owns the company who does every thing you asked? you got it....... rick scotts wife. he is basically asking welfare recipients to come up with $10-$30 to pay for the test. if they are clean, they get half their money back. i guess mr. scott doesn't care that a mother of 5,6,7 or more kids has to take a day off of work (if they have a job) and find coverage for their kids while they go to the clinic, and get a ride to the clinic or wherever the test is being given. this governor is a joke.

Actually, Solantic is ineligible for government contracts.

Who is paying for this, and how much is this program supposed to save?

All I see are costs.

I'm also not seeing where there is a government contract with Solantic. Seems like the applicant would be the one to get the test on their own. Why wouldn't they use Solantic, if it's the most convenient?

I remember reading something about the transfer of ownership of Solantic to Scott's wife. I believe there was a a clause in there that forbid government contracts. I assume that those that need to be tested will be informed that they will not be reimbursed unless they get tested at a participating contracted facility.

The amount of money that it saves is dependent on the amount of people who will be denied benefits.

Some feel it's more about spending a responsible dollar, read not paying for someone's drug habit.

Bottom line will be that welfare recipients will now have to make the choice between recieving benefits or doing drugs and doing without the money they need.

Some folks are just hooked on drugs and continue to collect welfare while working off the books. The system is full of abuse and fraud. I have mixed feeling about the law because the ones that are always hurt the most are the kids of the drug users. The kids will have less than they have now. The druggie parents will still get their drugs.

The law states that if a parent is denied benefits due to a failed test then another adult family member can recieve the benefits for the kids. At least this way the drug addicted parents aren't using welfare money (read taxpayer money) for their habit instead of putting it towards caring for the kids.

I want to see that Solantic is ineligible for government contract...With my own eyes or at least a credible source such as the law itself specifying which company gets the contract.

It's an interesting story, and I'm watching it. No fights broke out. I will probably close it before I leave my PC, so if anyone has something more to add, do it quick.
