kLuo Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 So my current situation makes it so that it would be most ideal for me to buy a pair of Oakleys. I know everyone has their favorite sunglasses brand, but my question is specific to Oakley. What is the best overall lens color if I can only get 1 pair of lenses? Other threads I have read said "copper" is a good color, but that color does not exist in Oakley. The frame I want to get only offers polarized lens in the following colors: Black Iridium, Shallow Blue, VR28 Black Iridium, and Bronze. Does anyone have any experience with any of these lenses? Which one is most similar to copper and gives the best overall look in medium to bright light? Thanks for your help. Quote

cigarleaf Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I have a pair of Oakleys in Shallow Blue and they seem fine in med. light. I like them better in low light conditions, like early morning. From there website: Specifications: Shallow Blue Light Transmission: 20% Conditions: Medium to Bright Light Protection Index: 3 Neutral / Contrast: Contrast http://www.oakley.com/products/5717/19856 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 My pair (Wardens) has the Black Iridium Polalized and I like that lens a lot. My eyes are pretty light sensitive and these were great for my eyes in bright full sun skys. The down for that though was yeah around 6pm the darkness of the lens would make it seem 8:30pm. Another down but might be my fault the coating started peeling off after 3 years. I used my shirt quite often to clean the lens which I quess is a no-no need to use the softer microfiber cloth. Ive been looking for another pair/brand and most likely will get Oakley again cant find another brand that fits me well--MauiJim, Costa, Revo. I like the Oakley TEN that fit great and is ok price. The JAWBONE fits as well but costly and you can change lens in that one. What frame you interested in? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 I like the Bronze and Titanium iridium polarized. The Titanium is a great lens for most situations because of the contrast. Quote
Slipknot6 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 IMO, the shallow blue is the best polarized fishing lens i have used. Ever. The 2 people i had use mine for a day, both ended up buying a pair. 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 I have 2 pair of the Black Iridium. They stay in my truck for driving but I have used them for fishing as well! Not near as good as my Costa 580 copper lenses, but they do in a pinch! Jeff Quote
GTrombly Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I would buy the shallow blue. They have a copper lens with a bluish green mirror to deflect those light colors to see into the water better. I have those, bronze polarized, and black iridium polarized. The bronze are a little darker than the shallow blue. The oakley lenses are ansi certified to protect your eyes, the costa glass frames shatter if dropped or impacted with anything. Quote
kLuo Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 What frame you interested in? I'm currently looking at the straight jackets. I would buy the shallow blue. The bronze are a little darker than the shallow blue. The oakley lenses are ansi certified to protect your eyes, the costa glass frames shatter if dropped or impacted with anything. Why exactly is the shallow blue better than, let's say, bronze? Also, the shallow blue has been discontinued, do you have any idea why that is the case? Thanks for all the responses guys, this is really helpful. Quote
Fat-G Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I've been told bronze/brown/copper for an all-around pair. Quote

The shallow blue has a lighter bronze shade that is useful in more light conditions. here's what oakley says "For rivers, shallows and flats, choose Oakley SHALLOW BLUE™ lenses. We engineered them to filter out harsh blue light while allowing more green than Oakley DEEP BLUE™ lenses, making it easier for you to see aquatic plants and other features that could foul your line. If you need to read river bottoms and spot the reds and greens of prized species, choose the VR28® lenses. They are specially designed to eliminate harsh blue light while enhancing the colors you need to work the river with precision. So pick the perfect lens for your type of fishing, and you’ll never be taunted again by the one that got away." check this out My link Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 21, 2011 Super User Posted April 21, 2011 Have you seen this page on the Oakley site it give a "view" of each lens for different scenes. http://www.oakley.com/innovation/optical-superiority/lens-tints Quote

I have seen this link, but the only thing it really shows is color change and glare reduction, which I would expect every lens to do already anyway. I was looking for insight from people with personal experience with these lenses. I like the shallow blue color, but I don't like how see-though they are since they have a weak mirror coating. I might have to get 2 lenses, good thing they are so easily interchangeable! Quote

kLuo Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 You can't really see through them while they are on, I just asked my wife. Ah, excellent. Thanks for all the input. Looks like I am going to pick up a pair of the shallow blue! Quote
northern basser Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 To me personally anything besides black/grey looks weird to me (from my perspective, not how they look on me). Thats just me though. When I used to race motocross or when I ride 4-wheeler I prefer clear and pull the viser down on my helmet. Quote
blueultra2 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I bought the OO Black Iridium lenses in the Scalpel model and I REALLY like them. Check'em out!! Quote
SausageFingers Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I prefer bronze/amber. Its what works for me. Quote
B A S S E R Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Get a pair like the halfjackets where you can easily switch the lenses out. I plan to buy a pair with the shallow blue but pick up a couple other sets of lenses for different situations Quote

They discontinued the shallow blue, so I would try to get one ASAP. also, just found out today that shallow blue is what KVD uses: http://www.oakley.com/sports/fishing/athletes/286 I wonder how many people bought them because he said that they are his favorite haha Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 30, 2011 Super User Posted April 30, 2011 There looks to be another fishing specific coming out the PIT BULL 5-1-11 http://www.oakley.com/products/6726/25080 Quote
