What color hard jerkbaits do you guys like? I'm thinking of picking up some lc pointers or x-raps for smallies and some largemouth. Thanks.

LC's ..Aurora Black, Ghost Minnow,Chartruese Shad. These are probably the most popular colors, but I have  caught them on just about every color. I believe cadence matters more than color with any bait. I wouldn't buy X-Raps,the weight transfer ball gets stuck in the tail alot. Makes the bait sit vertically in the water, not good.

I agree on what he said about LC's. Great lures. You just can't go wrong. Get a selection of a few colors to match conditions and forage base and you're good to go.

However, don't discount the X-Raps. I have 1/2 dozen or more and have caught quite a few smallies and LM on them. Never seen that problem with stuck weights, but I suppose it could happen(?).

Remember one thing with hard jerks this time of the year. The water is cold (at least in my neck of the woods!). Make sure your bait does not rise when paused! Regardless of what kind you use. If it sinks slightly, so much the better, in my opinion. When the water temps start getting in the mid 50's, a jerk that rise very slowly can sometimes be a trigger, but hereabouts, our water is still in the 40's!

To correct a "floater", either switch to a next size larger hook, or add a bit of weight to the belly hook. I like to use very thin lead (or composite) solder wire. You can also add an extra split ring to the existing eye that the belly hook is attached on. Experiment with weight as this will vary according to the water temperature. Just paying attention to this small detail can make a tremendous difference in your success.

One of your colors should be white.

That was all they wanted at Pickwick Saturday.

I use Pointers, and X-Raps. There are times when they want one over the other. I've never had a problem with the stuck weights either. Both are quality baits, and must haves, in my opinion.

As for colors, I fish in very clear water, and use:

L.C.-

Ghost Minnow

Chartreuse Shad

American Shad

X-Raps-

Silver/Blue

Hot Pink

Silver

Glass Ghost(White)

Olive Green (Quickly becoming my favorite)

Clown

Falcon

P.S. One more bait that produces well is the XCalibur Xt3 in Pearl Melon.

Agreed I use white for most situations for smallies.

I got a selection of Pointers, X-Raps, Husky Jerks, and Suspending Rogues,....and I catch fish on ALL of them.

Be sure to give them a pause between  the jerks, as often, that's when the fish will hit. Sometimes the fish really want a loooooooong pause.

Try different cadences to find out what they want that day.

Pick your lure color by the choice of baitfish known to be present.

I agree with white lures; done well with them.

I usually start with a chrome/ with blue back, or a gold/ black back/orange belly, depending upon what the forage fish are.
