dgquail Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 What is you top choice for smallie crankbait color(s)? for the various fishing seasons??? Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I'm in VA fishing the upper Potomac and use only two cranks all day long. The water is too fast IMO for tubes, so I use only crankbaits and inline spinners. First crank is a Rapala suspending glass shad, the color is black with tiny gold dots. The second is the BPS premium line of cranks (the packaging looks like Lucky Craft, but it is the BPS knock off...), color is splatter-back. Both rake the fish in, and both are $6 or a little less. BTW the spinner I use is the Mepps Black Fury #3 or #4 w/red dots. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted August 15, 2007 Super User Posted August 15, 2007 Over the years the most productive crankbait for me has been the Rapala Shad Rap, deep or shallow divers depending on water depth, in shad color. Another is the jointed Shad Rap in red crawdad. This year I tried the new colors, bleeding olive flash and bleeding pearl with decent success. Falcon Quote
the captain Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 In PA I use a perch colored Rapala jointed shad rap it seems to work just about anytime pretty good but it excels in prespawn. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 18, 2007 Super User Posted August 18, 2007 #1 color is crayfish in the river. Top 5 baits: Bandit 100, Mann's baby 1-, Luhr Jensen Klawdad, 1/4oz plastic big O, and LC RC 1.5 (#1 crankbait this year so far). Allen Quote

Davis Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 BTW the spinner I use is the Mepps Black Fury #3 or #4 w/red dots. No kidding? I use the #4 for northern pike. Never thought to give it a try for smallies. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Bandit 100 series in Chartruese with black back.............. Quote
electrikal Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I like the jointed Shad Rap in a crawdad color. Caught several this summer on a shad colored 1 1/4 oz Rattletrap imitation. All were better than 2.5lbs. Might be my new favorite :-/. Quote
