Fish Kill

Cam across this scene this morning while launching my kayak. The water is usually clear, but in this area of the lake the water had a green tint to it. Is this the result of a bloom? I paddled around most of the lake shore and didn't see any other fish nor did I find any bass that were affected.

Possibly caused by oxygen depletion.  In the Northeast, salt water, it is not uncommon to have die offs of menhaden when the water gets too warm, and holds less dissolved oxygen.

My guess would be they die off first because they are more sensitive to low oxygen levels.  Could be the same reason you haven't found any dead bass.

That and the bass might be at different depths. 

It could also be the result of a pesticide or some other chemical that has only affected a small area, and maybe only on the surface.

The green could be an algae bloom.  I've seen times when it is only on the surface.  The wind can blow it to one shore or cove, depending on the shape of the pond.

If it is an algae bloom, it's not likely that it caused the the kill.  Algae kills when it dies off, and the decomposing algae consumes too much oxygen in the process.

Wow that is terrible.  I am wondering how that fish got all the way up on that rock.  Almost looks like the water was at a higher level before.  Either that or the fish jumped out of the water.  Crazy!

I have seen similar things happen on the snake river around Brownlee res with crappie happens every so often not sure what causes it someone said it is a natural occurrence around those parts every few years.
