A back bay

There is a back bay just a minute from my cottage that gets no boat traffic or waves, and there is pads everywhere, with a lot of logs. But the water is about a foot deep. To shallow? Is there such thing as to shallow until the bass is out of the water even? Have caught some bass out of there, nothing big, but i'm thinking i'll hit that post spawn when the season opens. (season for all of us up north)

If the bay opens to deeper water, I don't see why it wouldn't be a great spot for some decent bass. A lot depends on the water clarity, forage base and the general size of the bass in the lake.

A Rage Tail frog buzzed across those pads should give you some action!

Might be a great spot for some big pike just after the ice melts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It could hold bass, but I would look for them deeper, especially if the water is clear

I've seen many spots similar to the ones you mentioned, they just look like they should really hold a fish or two, but for some reason they don't. Usually silted in bays are just that, silt. Great for carp, not so great for bass. But by all means, think out of the box & beat that bay to a froth, I would. Three words I live by, establish or eliminate.

I don't have much experience with bass in the far north, but down here in the mid lattitudes, a spot like that would be very seasonal at best. a foot of water will get cold very fast, and heat up in the summer just as fast. Some of these back bays can reach 90 degree temps in the summer ( unless it's tidal) and even in tidewater they can rise above most bass's comfort level. Try spring & fall, and within a cast or two of deeper water. By all rights, the transition edge between shallow & deep is where I would concentrate my efforts.

The title of your thread made me look twice, I thought someone was starting a thread about Back Bay Va. What a bass factory that place used to be!

Everything that's been said makes sense. But, I'm not as far north as I think some of you think I am, I'm in southern Ontario, just east of Toronto. No pike in the lake, just musky, and the average bass I catch in this lake are generally about 2 pounds, but I have pulled out a couple fours and have seen a few fives pulled out.

The mouth of the bay is about 4-5 feet deep, and then slowly drops to about ten, where it hits a 20 foot drop off, and on that drop off, there is a big weedline, at the bottom of the drop off, there isnt really anything there, just sand, and some rocks. Would you fish that weedline?
