First COLD Front Of Fall

We just had our first BIG cold front of the fall pass last night and temps are much cooler today, only in the mid 60s with lows around 40. Temperatures are supposed to steadily warm back up each day starting today, and will reach the 80 degree mark again on Saturday.

When do you guys think the fishing will pick back up? Wednesday is my next opportunity, do you think that's too early?

This large of temperature drop is very unusual for September in Western Colorado. The water temp of my lake was 79 degrees last week. Our first freeze usually doesn't happen till mid to late October, and ice up on our lakes isn't usually till Mid December.

If you can go Wednesday then go, why not. I would fish the humps and find the channel, they'll be there. Good Luck

That should work joe. Only thing is I have little gas money for the rest of the month and might not be able to make two trips and I could go later in the week when it's been steady and warm for a few more days.

Had the same cold front hit here (Dallas,TX) last night/early morning.

I had great success with a crankbait early this morning (6:30am), caught about a half dozen 2-3 # and missed/lost a few more, all within an hour.

Go! Water doesn't cool quick enough to bother the fish much. Water dropping through the 70s is no issue. It might even move deeper fish shallower.

I don't believe water temperature is that much of a factor. It's the barometric pressure that interferes with a bass's metabolism. After the front the pressure rises dramatically, shutting down their normal feeding patterns. That being said however, never has a front kept me from fishing. You can usually find a few nutty bass to co-operate!

It's the first day of fall everywhere, the fall equinox. Fish when you can it should continue to get better until you are uncomfortable fishing or the water freezes. Good time for jigs.

I sure wished that cold front woulda made it down here to Florida...I'm over the 90+ degree heat and 70% humidity in September. The pond I fished last had a water temp of 89 degrees That's way too warm...cmon cool weather!

The water temp probably didn't drop by more than a couple degrees, it's more the sudden change and the pressure changes that I was worried about.

But since this is a shallow lake with the deepest water being 20 feet at most I doubt it will affect it that much. I have decided to go on thursday.

The news showed that it snowed in Denver Tuesday, flooded in Atlanta and we have fires near Los Angeles. Climate change covers all the fronts and the climate will always be changing.

Air temperature does little to change water temperature other than at the surface

Very true. The air temps out west are 103 with 40 mph winds and the bass are campers in their 75 degree water, same in Denver except it's snowing and Atlanta in the floods. The bass are OK, we are uncomfortable.
