K.E.B. Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I thougth I knew what type of fish this was, but am being questioned and I was looking for a second opinion. Can you please help?? Quote
bigtimfish Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 UH, A bass? I don't recall the scientific name, but I'm sure someone on good ol bassresource knows it. Quote
bigtimfish Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Are you asking because of the family of fish the bass is in? Quote
K.E.B. Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 No. I'm sorry to be so stupid when it comes to fish, but 3 years ago we bought land with a pond. Haven't fished it until this year. I haven't fished at all in 25+ years. so now when I think I know what I am talking about, then someone comes and says "hummm, well it looks like a ____ to me. I don't know if they are serious or kidding me, because they know I am gullable. Again I am sorry to be so unknowlegable, but I figured this was a good place to get good answers. My husband isn't here now and I didn't want to wait for an answer. Quote
K.E.B. Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Thank you. Someone tried to tell me it was a carp. I knew they were not right. Quote
farmpond1 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Thank you. Someone tried to tell me it was a carp. I knew they were not right. A former roommate once swore that some 10 lb + fish he'd seen in a creek pool were crappie. When I corrected him and said they were likely "carp" he acted like I was crazy. Later I confirmed that they were, in fact, carp. Doesn't hurt to check with more than one source. Quote

Super User Micro Posted June 11, 2009 Super User Posted June 11, 2009 If you own a pond producing fish like that, you are very lucky, indeed. That's a very nice looking bass. Quote

I doubt they went home to tell their friends "She actually believed it was a carp!" ;D Quote
Mattlures Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Hey dont feel bad. The guys in Texas think that bluegill are perch. and even more people call bluegill bream or brim when if fact the fish is a bluegill or some other closely related sunfish. However if sombody is calling your bass a carp they are wrong Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 11, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 11, 2009 Definitely not a carp. That is a very fine looking largemouth. Not to be confused with smallmouth, rock bass, bream, bluegill, crappie, specks, slabs, perch, redeye, swanee, peacock, warmouth, meanmouth, etc, etc, etc.... Quote
UrbanRedneck Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 If you lived in Alabama you might hear people tell you that you caught a green trout. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 11, 2009 Super User Posted June 11, 2009 If you live near Missouri I'd be happy to come to your pond and help with further fish identification for you. I'm sure it will be a survey that takes quite a while over multiple trips. I promise not to leave a mess and will fillet anything I catch if you're interested. Quote

That will get him going ;D If you lived in Alabama you might hear people tell you that you caught a green trout. I hear that all the time here in Cali too.... mainly from the Trout Guys though. Quote
bigfish88 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Seriously? It's all good, but yeah defiantly a LMB (Largemouth Bass). Quote
